Well, you've read the notes, you attended the tale, and now it is time for you to post until the attending the tale cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: REPARTEE!
-
The CD that I need to pick up from the library is Billy Joel's "Live at Yankee Stadium, June 22 & 23, 1990." It's actually two CDs and a Blu-ray video of the concert. Here's the description:
Summary: The newly edited version includes a never-before-released performance of "Uptown Girl" along with interviews from Billy and behind-the-scenes footage from the event's production. The set list consists of re-edited versions of songs from the original film including "Piano Man," "We Didn't Start The Fire," "New York State Of Mind," "Shout" and more - all live from the ionic stadium in The Bronx. Features 11 completely unreleased performances, including "Uptown Girl," "Only The Good Die Young," "Allentown" and more.
-
That's going to be fun. :)
-
Topic of the Day: If a jernt I really like serves me a not so hot meal, I'll of course go back because it must be an anomaly, otherwise why would it be a jernt that I really like? Now, if they continually serve not so hot meals, then it'd probably be a while before I'd go back...but just a one-time not so hot meal is not really a problem. But that's just me. :)

I just went down a Laurie Beechman-on-YouTube rabbit hole (and proudly!) and came across this 2003 documentary on her life:

Good morning to you all and I hope you all have a wonderful week.

I saw that too recently. They mention BK’s two produced CDs. They show pictures of them, but not even an interview with Bruce about them.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Yes, DR Jeanne, I too am having much anxiety about today's procedure, but not the same qualms that I had before the first.
-
My day yesterday consisted of cleaning up things I needed to cover before today. I finished the Tango and got all my score pages organized for scanning on Tuesday and I needed to deal with the number of CDs surrounding me. I had a lot of debate about such matters as what time to bathe, when to eat dinner, and what to do about tomorrow's meds.
-
I did have a terrible night. I blame eating too late (6:30pm) for much of it, and it did not sit well in my stomach. I was awake too much of the night with bathroom trips, three cats, and some anxiety.
-
Good morning, all.

Good morning, all.

Good morning, friends.

I really thought we were a week ahead when I asked about the Oscars.

You can add me to the list of awful-nighters. I woke up at 4:00 from some silly dream and laid awake for two hours. At some point I dropped off again for maybe an hour which consisted of two or three irritating dreams. There was nothing to do but get up, but I feel like the proverbial truck ran over me:
-
Wordle and Phoodle in 3.
-
I did get some sleep, but I had bouts of dealing with all this pollen.
-
DR ChasSmith - my friend thought it was better than he expected it to be. He liked it a lot, but thought that the show still needs some pruning. Too many reprises, too much repetition in the first act scenes, and the second act flies by almost too briskly. Some characters not fully developed. Nevertheless, overall a positive impression and very much enjoyed.
-
What do people like in their tuna salad?
-
I completely understand DR Elmore’s worries and all. I am that way on any night before something I have to do the next morning, let alone any kind of medical thing. It’s awful.
-
If I like a restaurant and get a bad meal, I will order something else the next time. If I am new to a place and have a bad meal, I probably won’t go back unless other people pick it.
-
There aren’t many restaurants I loathe.

It's amazingly long, even after the pruning they did do, plus eliminating most of the dance music. And ALL the ballets. And most of the entr'acte. That's a lot of music.
DR Elmore's observation about the cheating wife development is certainly right on. I could even tell while reading the script that if a person's attention happened to flag at just the right moment, they could actually miss that information.
I'm the one who asked the first question about the duo-piano arrangement. The two students came up with it themselves with the help of the full score. It was great, with all the richness you want in such an arrangement. Ted Chapin didn't think one had existed, or that Trude Rittman in particular had written one.
-
Access-a-Ride is due about an hour from now.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Around 8:00 I lay back down and dozed for nearly an hour. I then did kitty cleanup and made the bed. Around 10:30 I took the garbage to the basement and picked up Saturday's mail. And now I bide my time.
-
TOD:
If I got a bad meal at a restaurant - I would go back. Anyone can have an off day.
But if I have two.....I probably would move it far down my list.
-
The fat pastrami for MR BK almost sounds like a vendetta.
-
Beautiful weather out here today!
-
I may set out on my porch later.
-
Good morning.
-
We don't eat out often at all. Even fast food has become too expensive.
-
Except for Saturday after the church hike when the leader chose a restaurant to support the local economy, I don't believe I have eaten in a restaurant with a server more than once or twice in a couple of years.
-
Vibes and good luck, DR Elmore!

DR George asked:
That's so cool, ChasSmith. I wonder if a production is going to tour. Do you know if the script been updated in any way, or was it just the production itself that was really good?
Nope, this was a college production and yesterday was the closing performance.
No updating. Except for trims, they followed the script. According to the talkback remarks, the original concept sounded dead-on-arrival in comparison with this. The original Greek chorus ensemble was in static speaking and singing groups, some of them in choir robes. Here, the leads (except for Joe) were always part of the ensemble, still in costume, when not doing their own scene. It was never a distraction to see, for example, dead Grandma integrated into other scenes. The entire blocking choreography was complex and, for me, mind blowing, since I don't have a creative bone in my body when it comes to that kind of thing.
The director added one idea: a framing device, starting the show in the last scene where Joe has his epiphany. At that point the music started and the entire show unfolded, backwards, at high speed, to the playing of the overture, so that at the end of the overture, everyone had "reverted" to their position in the first scene. I think my jaw was on the floor that whole time. The complexity of it, even of the "forward" blocking itself, can't even be described by the likes of me.
-
Thinking of you today, Elmore.
-
Photographic Evidence:
Ted Chapin and Oscar Andrew Hammerstein III at intermission.
Clicking and embiggening recommended.
-
That is definitely Ted Chapin.
-
From my second row seat, I didn't have to shout my question to my now-close (see how close?) personal friends.
-
Thank you for the photographic evidence.
-
The oak pollen is so bad that I have lost my voice. No one else seems to think that's a problem.
-
That is definitely Ted Chapin.
Yes! You can find him in a crowd.
-
One more for the road.
-
The oak pollen is so bad that I have lost my voice. No one else seems to think that's a problem.
Yikes. I've never lost my voice, but I've had my throat go hoarse and tighten up at times...in addition to the eyes and nose running like faucets, of course.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! I am all ready for today’s ladies’ meeting.
-
Access-a-Ride is due about an hour from now.
Hope it all goes smoothly, dear DR Elmore 😘
-
From DR Vixmom:
I’m trying to talk WFO into getting a smartwatch on which he would capable of calling 911 once he’s home alone again
Under those circumstances I would consider getting one. It would be preferable to wearing something around my neck.
-
Wow DR Rodzinsky, Bellingham for Costco. I believe you can also find good restaurants there. Do you combine Costco with other activities.
-
Yes, Vancouver has lots of good restaurants though it is still a drive.
-
I read about Point Roberts during covid, then completely forgot what it was called ;D
-
Nice photos, DR ChasSmith. Thank you.

PAGE THREE DANCE.

Some dream, indeed, DR Laura. :(
-
I'm up, I'm up - I do believe we've got a lovely case of food poisoning.
-
Six and a half hours of sleep.
-
Last night, to try and settle my nausea, I made some white rice. It seemed to at least help a little.
-
At nine-thirty I awoke with food poisoning - no vomit but all the other lovely stuff that goes with it.
-
Sorry, BK.
-
I just hope it all exits and I'm done with it - too much to do, but thankfully today I don't have to leave the house.
-
I'd ordered food in advance last night, so I just cancelled that.
-
If I make a sandwich with lettuce, guacamole, bacon, and tomato, is that a LGBT?
-
I suspect there will be no food for me today.
-
Asking for a friend.
-
And frankly, that's probably not bad.
-
And if you add mayo, is that LGBT+?
-
Big, fat flakes coming down right now, but not a lot of accumulation.
-
:)

Can the cloverleaf be improved?
They are considering putting in a "diverging diamond" interchange in Norwalk, very close to DR ChasSmith.
This type of highway interchange became popular in France during the 1970s and has started to become popular in the American midwest. Each direction of traffice briefy crosses over to the opposite side of the road between the on- and off- ramps, eliminating the need for drivers to cross oncoming traffic, theoretically resulting in less bottlenecking.

Continued vibes for Elmore

John I am a persnickety tuna salad eater...I only like chunk.light ( not white) tuna in water. Then just a squeeze of lemon and just enough mayo so it holds together on my toasted onion bagel.
I will also accept toasted seeded rye as a substitute for the bagel.

The first one in Washington state is in this area, just a few miles north of me in Lacey. I'd read that they are a lot safer than regular intersections.
-
It took me a while, but I've mostly gotten used to plain old traffic circles (roundabouts), except when they're really big and busy ones. But a few small ones have taken root around here and they work beautifully.
I first heard about those weird ones in the Midwest not that long ago, and they do look absolutely crazy. I don't think I've encountered one yet myself, but I look forward to it.
Edit: The above diagram is actually one of the clearer ones I've seen. It makes sense.
-
I just reserved a spot in the (free) "Conducting Musical Theatre in the Pit, Studio and Concert Hall" Zoom thingy on Wednesday at noon. "Veteran musical theatre conductor/arrangers Larry Blank, Rob Berman, Kristen Blodgette, Robert Billig, and Dan Redfeld share experiences."

I have tried to navigate one of those Diamonds and it is CRAZY. I'm glad I didn't come upon it in the dark.
But I still didn't know if I was in the correct line on driving on the wrong side of the road.
It is at Interstate-70 and ST 39 in Hendricks County.

I have not gone there since.
It is horrendous.

Glad you are home safe and sound, DR elmore3003!

Hope the trip back and forth and the procedure weren't too traumatizing.
-
I'm sure your trio are glad to have you back home, too.
-
I am home, and there will be a full report tomorrow. The surgery was harder than the first; the doctor said my cataract was a mess. The surgery was on time, and I was ready to come home by 4:00, Two hours later, the intense burning pain in my right eye is going away, and I was given another pain pill for later. Thank you, all, for the good wishes.
-
I must now feed three hungry babies.
-
Wow! Whew. Glad you are back home in one piece.

Bernard Herrmann's prelude for Psycho, transcribed for piano:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkk4s4AmVjI
When I discovered the Phase 4 recording of Herrmann's Hitchcock thrillers in 1971 or 1972, I played that thing to death, and - I might still have this - I tried my own hand at transcribing for piano both the Psycho and North by Northwest main title themes. They would both probably be nothing but an embarrassment now, but I'll see if I can find them.

The good news is the food poisoning seems to have abated - no bathroom visits in three hours, no upset tummy (actually, I never had an upset tummy) and I'm hungry, so I may order something mild. I'd sent Uber a note mentioning the food poisoning and that I thought it was probably the pastrami, which is exactly what I think it was, and they surprised me by refunding the entire cost of the meal, so that was nice.

So, now I'll figure out food, mild food. What IS mild food, anyway?

Loving this movie. Reminds me a tiny bit of Best Years of Our Lives, but during the war.

I am watching all three hours of this movie and loving it. Sure, parts are corny, but that’s part of its appeal.

It was nominated for nine Oscars, losing most to Going My Way. But Max Steiner won for best score.

Good night, all.

Well, I thought that I had pre-ordered the new Broadway cast recording of Into the Woods, but I can't find any evidence of having ordered it (especially since it was released more than a month and a half ago ::) ), so I finally broke down and ordered it from Amazon.
-
It arrived today and I agree with the opinions of others about the packaging. :-\
-
I never liked the digipac packaging...and this one doesn't seem like it's complete.
-
It was completely flat with the CD in the sleeve pocket, and the booklet just set in there.
-
But, I was able to carefully unflatten that sleeve pocket so that at least the booklet is now able to fit in there, even with the disc:
-
But even with the unflattened sleeve pocket, it really seems like it still should've had the plastic CD tray hot-glued in, but then they chose not to put it in there.
You really can still see the gap on the left side:

So, what I did was buy a 5-pack (you couldn't buy just one) of the Clear Digipak Glue in CD Digi Trays/Inserts (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K33W2D2), and then I'll hot-glue that into the packaging and have it be more like a real digipac package! ;)
-
I didn't buy this as an investment and to keep it in pristine condition, so I don't care that I'm altering the "original" packaging and covering up the corners of the one inside image:

A friend attended “The Secret Garden” in L.A. over the weekend.
It appears that they have cut my absolute favorite…”Quartet”.
That one gave me chills.
It’s on the OBC recording and on Youtube.
Check it out when you have a free moment.

They also cut Race You to the Top of the Morning. Our two girls have now had their first performances and the word is both were great. Unfortunately, Mr. Director isn't seeing their performances - and he should so he knows just how wrong he was to replace the one he'd cast in the show. But noooo - that might just show him that perhaps he should not be directing anything.
-
No TCB.

What's the haps?
-
Is page nine around?
-
I'd like to say hello.
-
HELLO!

I love when that happens.
