Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written by Who, and now it is time for you to post until the Who driven cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IDIOLECT!
-
Just to show you that NO ONE is immune from newspapers.com, I offer up the following.
-
Jane number one.
-
Jane number two.
-
And Penny Orloff!
-
And excellent chess playing by Hamilton’s Peter Rhee.
-
Wonder if “Rik Elfman” mentioned in text is Richard Elfman, older brother of Danny.
-
Notes collected. Aggregated.
-
Georgie never did show up.
-
Good morning, all!
-
This is an Access-a-Ride day. I'm praying it all goes smoothly. My legs are still unhappy about Wednesday's workout, but I want to get this gastrointestinal situation checked out and closed.
-
DR JohnG, the great thing about eBay is what you can find in a search. I found a program for The Shoestring Revue.
Chita Rivera was The Girl in the "Garbage" number, but the Torch Singer was Bea Arthur.
-
This morning I had to restart the computer three times. It's most definitely on its last legs.
-
And it's working my last nerve.
-
Jane number two.
And Keith!

Wow!
-
Good morning!
-
I slept nicely through the night, waking a half hour before my alarm
-
I remember my dream which was a Hercule Poirot mystery. David Suchet was Poirot. I was a actress in a performance of Hamlet , some sort of ensemble character, which left me plenty of time to accompany Poirot around backstage during the performance to solve the mystery of the murder ( I have no idea who the deceased was) and to prevent further murders.
It was all solved satisfactorily ( spoiler alert it was the director) and then, mystery solved, I woke up.

And now that justice has prevailed, with my help, I shall , fir my next trick: Wordle

Good morning, all.

Car is at the car place, and I am at home awaiting their call later on what it needs.
-
Two separate but connected dreams last night - one in the middle of the night and the other just before waking up in the morn'. I'm trying to bring back the first one which was more substantial and had more going on with more people. Nothing particularly wonderful, I don't think, but not horrible either, and there was something interesting about it I'd like to recall. Damn it.
-
Car is at the car place
A very fine place for a car to be.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I don't know from no Shoestring Review, but I love me some shoestring potatoes.
-
I'm two days late and two dollars short, but here's my first cell phone and - I believe - my third one.
The first, the blue Nokia, was literally nothing but a phone - I'm not sure you could even text on it - and I pull it out today and still love the design and solid feel of the phone and its buttons. Kristi was living here then and we got these in the aftermath of 9/11, deciding it was time to have that emergency backup in communications. Of course we were excited to try out the newfangled convenience of it as well.
I had no idea then how to research and buy cell phones, and I simply stopped in on a spur of the moment at a Cingular store in Norwalk and signed up for them. Since I didn't know that you needed (especially back then) to research how good the reception was going to be wherever you most needed to use the phone, I found later that Cingular's coverage in my area was less than wonderful. But that phone lasted us at least a couple of years, when at one point of frustration with the service at home we switched from Cingular/AT&T to Verizon which was a godsend.
To be continued...
-
TWO.
-
And now I sit and wait to hear from Access-a-Ride, the worst part of the day when dealing with them: will they show up? will they be on time? if they're late, how late? what kind of a driver will I get?
-
I need to put together an Amazon Fresh order. The prices keep rising, but my monthly food stamp allowance does not.
-
:)
-
.
-
The red phone - an LG - was I think my third one. There was a Motorola flip phone from Verizon that I have no picture of, and I had to replace it after I'd set it on top of my car in the driveway "for a moment" and a moment later proceeded to drive off. So I believe the rather fancy little LG is what replaced that one, as by then I was taking some occasional pictures and wanting to use the text feature more...hence the fancy keyboard.
Well, I'm not sure I ever used either the camera or that keyboard very much, but this phone, too, has an amazing build and feel to it. These are such different animals from today's smart phones. Like I said... artifacts.
-
I don't know from no Shoestring Review, but I love me some shoestring potatoes.
If you don’t know Shoestring Review, you are missing out. It’s on Kritzerland and it’s hysterically funny.
-
That LG phone is really a prize example of excess design - or some such - and I wonder how its keyboard and all compares to that of the Blackberry. For me, it wasn't nearly as easy to use as you'd think while you're being wowed by it in the store, and I know I didn't take advantage of whatever it could do.
-
Well, what a difference a day makes in air quality. This morning we awoke to a fairly heavy fog combined with some now-obvious smoke from the fires, and...yikes. Our number seems to be between 90 and 114. I'm still not sure who or what site to trust on that. It's nothing like a few weeks ago with the post-apocalyptic orange skies, but it's now fully detectable and aromatic. The fog has mostly lifted, so at least the visibility is much better than earlier.
-

Oh, I have it. I was just trying to make a funny.
-
I wonder if shirt-tail relations have shoe-strings.
-
Richard Rodgers's first draft was entitled No Shoestrings.
-
Hope is Shoes are the thing with feathers strings.
-
There's no strings like shoestrings.
-
Just one of those things.
-
DR ChasSmith's reminiscences are fun.
-
I got no strings.
-
I think DR GEORGE was hustling drinks somewhere last night.
-
Cross Dressers in the Catskills - a movie by Who.
-
It is nice to have a day off from things going wrong - stage wise that is.
-
Lots of folks still without power.....and more storms predicted for later today.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE for Access A Ride and Amazon Fresh.
-
I am trying to decide what to cook today.....I shall prolly do some Chicken Strips this morning...using the oven before the temps go too high.
-
I watched the Rock Hudson documentary last night. It was very good. I enjoyed seeing all of the clips from his Universal movies - and a few times, they edited some clips to make it seem like he was asking guys out - in a clever way.
-
They didn't say anything about the two seasons he came to Louisville to play with the University of Kentucky football team - where he met Lee Majors.....
But I guess they didn't have time to talk about everything!
-
Since I didn't post on the TOD yesterday, I thought I would do so today.
-
The three films he made with Doris Day in order of my preference:
Pillow Talk
Send Me No Flowers
Lover Come Back

I really wish Gig Young had played the third wheel with Rock & Doris....instead of you know who.

I wonder if DR JANE, PENNYO and KEITH remember their lines and blocking from MEDEA?
I wonder if MR BK went to see the show?
I like that the chess team spilt the games.....that's one way to win.
-
I have to see that Casa Susanna documentary. I saw Harvey Fierstein's play Casa Valentina which is based on that, and it was wonderful.

Everything went quite smoothly, and I am home. I'm also very tired from the exertion.
-
A lot of screenwriters these days seem to tell portions of their stories via a shot of a cellphone text.
I, for one, can never read these messages. It must just be me.

Glad you are home safely and successfully, DR elmore3003.

-
Good news DR ELMORE.
-
I hope someday someone will listen to all of the comments I have made on the Comcast Assistant site....and I hope they are wearing asbestos ears.
-
Loved Alan Arkin.
So great in Catch-22.
And great direction of Little Murders.
Listened recently to a wonderful interview of him and his son Adam on the late Gilbert Gottfried’s podcast. Recommended.

From Rodzinski:
The boy Rodz finished school. I asked him what he did in the hour and a half they had today. He said they watched the teacher open presents.
That is funny :)
-
DR Vixmom, it is nice your best friend is visiting.
-
DR Vixmom did you take the day off from work?
-
Alan Arkin was always wonderful. And yes, my introduction to him was Catch-22.
-
Jane number one.
OMG, I have no recollection of this. I was friends with Pam & Adrienne (their father was the tennis pro at the park. Pam played professionally for awhile) and I knew Adrienne's friend Marcia
-
And Penny Orloff!
And Keith :)

-
Good morning.
-
I'm glad that Thatch turned out to be such a sweetheart, Elmore. Joshie was also feral (although not the worst I've had), and he took a couple of years before he adored me.
-
DR Lsura, those pics of the beautiful white blue-eyed kitty are wonderful.
Given the cat's coloring, have you checked to determine if he/she hears okay, since deafness is sometimes suspected?
(We're dealing with the realization that our Mikey (a tabby) has lost most or all of his hearing within the past couple of years, which is why I thought of that.)
-
He's a flame point siamese. So we don't have to worry about the blue eyes.

Yesterday, I volunteered for the Washington Center for the Performing Arts' fund raiser.
-
I got there at the call time of 3:45 p.m., and even paid for an hour and a half of street parking (parking is free after 5 p.m.).
-
When I got to the WCPA, not only was the regular check-in list not there, a front-of-house person wasn't there!
-
Someone finally told me that I was to go to the Olympian Hotel across the street and I'd get instructions there...no problem.
-
I get to the hotel (it was converted into shops years ago), go upstairs where the even is happening, and finally find someone who says that I and the other volunteer are basically there to serve drinks to the participants out in the sides of the lobby.
-
Gratuitous Post #100!!
-
The event is for people who donated a lot of money to the Center, so in the ballroom, they'll have a dinner (and more drinks) and a live auction, and the presentations of a couple of awards and a general merry-making for the monied people.
-
Here's what I could see from where I was sitting:
-
We served drinks (wine, hard cider, lager, Coke, diet Coke, and a pre-mixed specialty drink created for this event) from about 4:15 until 6:45, when everyone moved from the ballroom to the WCPA black box for part two of their event.
-
I don't know what was happening in the black box, but once in the black box lobby, they all got another drink that they had prechosen when they bought their tickets.
-
These drinks were in special travel purple-colored travel cups with the name and date of the event...these were for them to keep.
-
Some of the patrons didn't want theirs, so us volunteers were able to keep the ones that were left behind (and there were quite a few left over after the concert, too!).
-
And here's mine (all cleaned up):
-
Once the patrons were done with whatever happened in the black box, the two of us who served drinks at the Olympian Hotel were free for the rest of the night.
-
Sounds like fun DR GEORGE.....even with an obstructed view.
-
I like DR LAURA's new avatar.
-
I think I first really paid attention to Alan Arkin in THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING.....
-
Because I had volunteered for some part of the event, I could've just been able to get a stool at the back of the theater to watch the show, but fortunately, my friend Margo had gotten some tickets from her voucher for volunteering above 40 hours at the WCPA, and was able to get us and one of her daughters actual tickets to sit in comfy seats, so I didn't have to sit on a stool for the show!
-
The show was a Prince tribute band, and not only was the performer, Marshall Charloff, a dead ringer for Prince in the looks department, he could actually play multiple instruments and was really good!
-
Egermancy! Egermancy! Everyone to be getting in from street.
-
One of his band members is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and another has recorded with some REALLY big names in the music world...they all have the chops!
-
I was never really a Prince fan, but I really enjoyed the concert. They were all incredible musicians, and Marshall sang very well.
-
The crowd (which did include some people who were more tipsy than they should've been ::) ) really enjoyed the concert, and so did I!
-
After the show, Marshall came out and signed his own CDs (I got the two that he was selling) and he autographed both.
-
Busy day catching up and I have a scheduled call with a friend at 2:00.
-
Here's the cover of one:
-
I'll be back later.
-
Oh, look! It's Page Five!
-
And here's his autograph:
-
Jane number two.
This is fun, thanks.
-
Good afternoon!

-
The only problem with this one is that he closed the CD on his autograph before letting the ink dry, so it stuck to the other side and pulled a bit of the paper off. ::)
-
Here's the other CD cover:
-
And the autograph on that:
-
I haven't listed to them yet, but he said that they're smooth jazz, so I'm looking forward to hearing them.
-
After the concert, I needed to do a l little shopping for my sister, so I went to Fred Meyer. While I was there, my friend Shelly texted me, asking if I had any chocolate because she was craving some.
-
I texted back that I was at Fred Meyer and I just picked up a box of chocolates from FM's "Last Chance" (discounted) shelves and could bring them over after I get home. She was happy about this.
-
I finished my shopping (I got white duct tape for my sister), then headed home.
-
I took the chocolates to Shelly's (she just lives in the building next to mine) and we sat outside and chatted for about an hour an a half, eating some (but not all of the) chocolate and caught up since we hadn't seen each other since last week.
-
I finally left at about 1:15 a.m., and came home and just zonked out.
-
And that was my every enjoyable evening. :)
-
Now, to ketchup on today's posts.

DR Laura, congratulations on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!!!
-
I almost forgot! Last night, fellow WCPA volunteer Vicki gave me a keychain, knowing that I collect them, AND when I got home, there was one in the mail that I bought from eBay!
-
Here's one side of them:
-
The one on the left is a one ounce round of 999% pure copper!
-
And here are the other sides of the
coin keychains:
-
I can't really get a good picture of the copper keychain, but I also bought a 5 ounce version (not a Keychain, though) with the same design.
-
Here's one close-up from the eBay listing:

Ain’t we got fun?
-
Watching Saphead. It’s Buster Keaton’s first starring role and he makes the mistake of emoting occasionally. Not a good look on him.
-
It’s also a movie with too much plot.
-
Got a little further in Chita. She’s spends a decent amount of time on Sammy Davis Jr and Mr. Wonderful. Not on the show itself but on her affair with Sammy.

'night
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Was up at eleven-thirty and it sure didn't feel like almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Before I could even wake up the computer, I got a call from the producer of elmore's Mistletoe thing and we had a nice chat and I was almost coherent. He's pulling everything together and then we'll get it in the works to release.
-
Every time I tried to come here, something waylaid me.
-
So, I guess I pulled a George, huh.
-
I went to the mail place and was dismayed to find neither important envelope - one of them ALWAYS comes early, but no, June had to go out like the mostly wretched month it was.
-
I went to Popeye's and got my two chicken breasts and biscuits to go.
-
I came home and ate them, then had to prepare for the Zoom with David Wechter. I also did a bit of writing. Then the Zoom.
-
Then I was just so zonked I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched a movie, during which I also conked out twice.
-
I had to order in some Diet Coke from Big Lots (a DoorDash summer sale place) and those arrived just before I watched the movie.
-
Then I realized I'd pulled a George and came right here.
-
One would hope that George will at least be around later this evening.
-
One would at least hope that.
-
Maybe even two would hope that.
-
It's a little warm in the home environment.
-
And the Diet Cokes are not fully cold yet, which means I cannot partake of them.
-
And I'd LIKE to partake of them.
-
Really.
-
And truly.
-
Page nine has arrived.
-
Sadly I am not an author.
You write posts.

I’m now halfway through a dreadful movie of The Magic Flute by way of Roland Emmerich. F. Murray Abraham is an asshole in it.

Oh, what a day. I think.
It was Friday, yes?
I know I had things to do today, but I don't recall much of what I did.
It was all local.
I went to the Post Office.
I went to Third Generation and got lunch to go -- baked catfish, collard greens, grits and unsweetened iced tea.
I had vanilla ice cream for dessert.

TOD:
Loved Hudson in a lot of films, but he was never better than in "Seconds".
-
The plot is a young tenor (played by someone who makes Timothee Chalfant look butch) goes off to a voice school. He dreams he’s Tamino in The Magic Flute. The Queen of the Night’s servants are like TLC or some other girl group. It’s a lot of head singing in English and watered down orchestrations.

I have never seen that. I really want to.

Watched some movies today:
"Murder on the Bridle Path" starring Helen Broderick as Hildegard Withers (replacing Edna May Oliver). Broderick was her usual wonderful sardonic self. James Gleason, as always, was perfection as a wearied cop.
"Murder at the Gallop - with Margaret Rutherford as Jane Marple. This one is based on the Poirot story "After the Funeral" with Marple replacing Poirot. The MGM-Rutherford Marples were an odd lot for Christie fans as Rutherford did not actually embody the description of Marple. But she was fun, nevertheless.
I then watched the Poirot "After the Funeral" with David Suchet as the Belgian detective. It's a much better presentation of the story, IMO, and features performances by Julian Ovenden and Michael Fassbender.

It is QUITE good.

For supper I had some chicken teryaki over brown rice.
Quite tasty.

I also liked Hudson in the TV series "McMillan and Wife" in which he co-starred wit Susan St. James and Nancy Walker.
That show was one of three shows in weekly rotations for NBC's Mystery Movie. The other two shows were "Columbo" and "McCloud".
So, you'd see one every three weeks, which rather made it unique. This worked especially well for "Columbo" which, despite some phenomenal guest stars and very good writing, had a formulaic ending that always had Columbo confronting the bad guy, walking away from him as if he was stumped, and then turning and delivering the decisive solution to how the bad guy did it and how he tripped up. That worked delightfully every three weeks. If you see "Columbo" reruns, and they are in groups of three or four, the ending gets a bit predictable.
But "McMillan and Wife" always worked well for me. Set in San Francisco, Hudson was the police commissioner. His home was spectacular for a public servant in a city where a one-bedroom economy apartment can go for $2,500-$3,000 a month. His wife as a 20-something, bright, fashionable young woman..
Their bedroom was unusual in that it seemed to be on three levels, with stairs up to the bathroom and down into the bedroom from another part of the house.
Sigh.
Walker was their hard-drinking live-in maid, Mildred. John Schuck was McMillan's assistant in the PD.

What a coincidence! I had a little ice cream for dessert also.
-
Pistachio.
-
Pistachio.
Gesundheit.

It's closing in on my bed time. I had no nap today.
I blame it on the wonderful night of sleep I enjoyed last night. Slept in until almost 9:30 a.m.
Gosh!
I had some incredibly good dreams, all of which elude me now, but I remember being intrigued by having had them when I woke up.
-
Good night!

Good night, DR Ron Pulliam.

I loved McMillan and Wife back in the day. Haven’t seen it since.
-
I have placed a reservation on Seconds from the library.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Tried several times to get here this week, but was waylaid each time. Where does all this stuff come from? My to- do list never gets any shorter.
-
Today was acupuncture, then tacos.
-
Hi, John G.
-
Re BlackBerry: none for me. Personally, I prefer raspberries or blueberries.
-
Like DR Chas, I have a few old cellphone relics about the place. How quickly technology changes!
-
The library got in several seasons of Rocky and Bullwinkle. I love Fractured Fairy Tales. So insane.
-
Hi, Jeanne.
-
Very tired. Must say
Good night.

Good night, Jeanne.

Awaiting the arrival of George and company.
-
Awaiting July.

I texted back that I was at Fred Meyer and I just picked up a box of chocolates from FM's "Last Chance" (discounted) shelves and could bring them over after I get home. She was happy about this.
Was it good chocolate or is she just not fussy ;D
She's not fussy, and it was pretty good chocolate. It was on the discounted shelf because it didn't have a lid...just shrink-wrapped.
-
Here's one side of them:
Nice.
Thanks, Jane! It's so shiny!
-
And here are the other sides of the coin keychains:
They are nice, especially the copper one.
Thanks...I agree!

And here's the other side:

Super nice!
Aren't they?? ;D
-
Before I could even wake up the computer, I got a call from the producer of elmore's Mistletoe thing and we had a nice chat and I was almost coherent. He's pulling everything together and then we'll get it in the works to release.
That's so cool!!
-
Can't wait!!
-
One would hope that George will at least be around later this evening.
I have arrived!
-
We played three games of Phase 10 tonight, and I won NONE. :P

Gratuitous Post #299!!

PAGE ELEVEN DANCE!!
-
:D
-
Listening to music.
-
Page eleven is heaven but will we delve into page twelve?
-
I may have to turn on the air for a bit to cool down the jernt.
-
What?
-
Did someone say something?
-
Is George already down some damn rabbit hole?
-
Did anyone watch the new Rabbit Hole series?
-
I did not.
-
I will not.
-
And?
-
I don't know, I just don't.
-
Go know!
-
Long day’s journey into night.
-
The long day was spent driving down to mainland Wash. for eye appointments for the distaff family members.
-
Is George already down some damn rabbit hole?
Just chatting with my friend Shelly.
-
Then we went back into Canada to help wrap up the in-laws move from their temporary respite apt to their permanent new apartment. Had to get them a few more furniture pieces and things they needed.

Everyone should have a friend named Shelly.
-
Canada Day begins in 11 minutes.
-
How will you all be celebrating?
-
The Canadiens have descended upon our remote outpost to celebrate whatever happened on Canada Day.
-
“The day commemorates the anniversary of the Constitution Act, which consolidated three territories into the single nation of Canada, way back in 1867.“
-
Wasn't Shelly the one who kept you away last night??? You better have her come on her for a proper talking to.
-
Like now.
-
Still listening to music.
-
Still hot in here.
-
Decided to shave as soon as I post these here notes.
-
Sort of copycats, choosing to do that in early July.
-
What?
-
Shouldn't page twelve be around here somewhere?
-
See?
-
A midnight shave!
-
The Randy Vicar and the Midnight Shave was a popular tome.
-
Could never find it at the library as it was always checked out.
-

Thanks. I was just about to ask.

Must catch up on earlier posts…

Party city...or province!

I'm now having some leftover chow mein from Panda Express.
-
What?
-
I can't quite hear you.
-
A little louder.
-
I recently discovered that putting some Everything Bagel seasoning in the chow mein is a very good thing!
-
And?
-
Highly recommended, unless you don't like Everything Bagel seasoning.
-
Then, you're on your own. ::)
-
;D
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I've read them.
I'm sure we'll all read them, too!
-
...eventually.
