Well, you've read the notes, the notes were quiet, and now it is time for you to post until the quiet cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VISCERAL!
-
Notes have been read...short and sweet.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I was up early to be ready for an Amazon Fresh delivery. It's four stops away, so I'm guessing it will show around 7:15.
-
I had a good day once the tsuris of the leaking carton was resolved. Amazon gave me a refund for the entire order, so I got 2.5 bottles of Palmolive dishwashing soap for free. I wrote eight or so pages of orchestration ion the new No. 31, and I think this one is much better than the discarded one.

DR JohnG, which edition of From Here To Eternity are you reading? I have the latest, uncensored manuscript edition from Dial Press.

The Amazon Fresh delivery is now one stop away. It be arrive before 7:00. Excellent!
-
Amaqzon Fresh arrived at 7:00, and it was very poorly packaged. I need to complain.
-
The problem was that the frozen items - chicken and hamburger patties - arrived in uninsulated bags, after being out of refrigeration for God knows how long, including an hour in a delivery truck. Usually, the refrigerated items are packed with bottles of frozen water to keep them cool. The jerk who packed these items did not pack them with the bottles of water, and I'm worried about spoilage for me or another customer. Amazon Fresh is sending replacements tomorrow morning.
Prices go up and service goes to hell.
-
Good morning, friends.

Congratulations to DR Jrand72 on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!!!!!

I’m near the end. It’s after Dec. 7, 1941, and the attack. The stories are wrapping up.

Good morning, all.

Congratulations, JRand!

The humidity is so bad that once I leave the main area with the AC, it's oppressively warm and I am drenched in sweat. I'd like to see every climate change denier in the GOP fry like bacon on the streets until dead.

Congratulations to Jack on his lofty new perch
-
Also congratulations on the wonderful performances!

Now that the weekend is over the rain is gone

BK are you still a member of SAG?

I guess I had better Wordle and go to work

I think I have a first edition.

No one won the Powerball, apparently. So we all still have a chance.
-
What did ABBA sing? Take a chance on me?
-
I am making good progress on Preview Harvey and am enjoying the heck out of it.
-
Like other DRs have said, I'm going to have a heck of a long "to view" list once I'm done.
-
Kitty cleanup is accomplished. The unventilated bathroom was unpleasantly warm and I am now sitting in front of a nice fan. Then I need to move on to a precarious stack of books before I tackle the bed and then the ballet.

Monday, eh?
Blech!
Feeling a bit out of sorts this morning. My sleep was fitful. Could not get comfortable after around 5:30 a.m. Stayed in bed, sleeping in fits and starts, until 9:15 a.m.
House was feeling a bit clammy. Had to empty dehumidifier reservoir. House feels much better now. We had a lot of rain last night, so I'm guessing the humidity is way up this morning.
-
Have just learned that our air quality index is 75. That's much higher than over the past few days.
No, it's not in the 100s, but we are normally under 50.
-
I watched an odd little film yesterday afternoon on Max:
"See How They Run", starring Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan.
Premise: A murder has been committed in 1953 during the 100th performance celebration of "The Mousetrap" in London. The victim was planning a film version of the play. Many in the cast were very upset, as were many of the production staff.
Rockwell was the detective assigned to investigate, and Ronan as the police corporal who assisted him.
This should have been FUN. What it was is STILLBORN. Production values are splendid. All the British accents are spot on. I kept waiting for that spark that engages me. It never got near the flint, sad to say.
It's not terrible, it's just blah. It's not Christie, but it's well paced and does not lack anything but that which makes mysteries fun. No humor, no drama, no mystery.
Sam Rockwell is my absolute favorite actor right now, and he looks the part, acts the role he was given. But dueling windmills won't win any battles.
As many here already know, "The Mousetrap" continues to be London's longest running play although it's minor Christie in all respects. More than 10 million people have seen the play in the theater in London, thus far.
FWIW: "See How They Run" is also the title of an English comedy in three acts by Philip King. Its title is a line from the nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice". It is considered a farce for its tense comic situations and headlong humor, heavily playing on mistaken identity, doors, and vicars. I played a vicar (the Reverend Lionel Toop) in one production when I was in college, and, as president of the little theater group, I produced a version in Naples, Italy, in 1976.

No one won the Powerball, apparently. So we all still have a chance.
Are we pooling?
-
I don't think so. I personally have not bought a ticket.
-
Interesting bits, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
This is fun. I wonder if it's true.
-
Alarm clocks not yet commonplace in the 1930s?
-
And who woke up the knocker uppers?
-
I miss the days of a good ol fashioned human wake-up call at hotels.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Who wore it better?
And I could spit!
-
I miss the days of a good ol fashioned human wake-up call at hotels.
I don't miss the anxiety I associate with needing a wake-up call. I would get them in foreign ports of call -- Hong Kong and Perth, primarily -- to ensure I got back to my ship on time.
I really enjoyed the room service!!
-
We got started on another segment of Throwing Out Stuff yesterday which I'm going to continue today. Other than that, I have no plans for the day -- except that I might also work on organizing the songs I'm accompanying in a li'l vocal recital next month.
-
I wonder when was the last time I had a "live" wake-up call...or where I was when I had them. That's really a few lifetimes ago.
I think the method I went to next was setting the clock radio in the room. Don't remember how long that practice would have lasted, either.
-
When I was working front desk in San Jose in the ‘90s, we used a PDX we pre-programmed with all the wake-up calls. Except for the rare guest who requested a pea shooter.
-
Today is Clean the Garage Day for me.
-
And now I am looking down from this lofty perch and headed even higher!
THanks to DR GEORGE for capturing my moment.
-
DR RON PULLIAM I have also played Lionel Toop.....and run around the stage in my underwear.
-
Writing vibes for MR BK.
-
I have nothing to do today - and I shall not do it with gusto.
-
I think everything should be done with gusto. Including napping.
-
Crikey! DR Jrand72 has ushered in page THREE!
-
With gusto!
-
And a half.

Monday afternoon greetings! Richard and I have deposited a curb full of trash for tomorrow’s pickup and we’re about to take a carload to Goodwill.
-
This afternoon we’re going to do some errands and go out to lunch to celebrate a momentous anniversary. Fifty years ago today I interviewed at Miami University-Middletown for what would be my first professional librarian position.

From Rodzinski:
I dunno. Jane already went to sleep and it’s not yet 8

Good progress, DR Ginny. Baby steps.

Yes, always anxiety if you needed a wake-up call. Usually they were very early in the morning.

Now we set my travel alarm and our cell phones.

Regarding alarms on the clock radios, we have learned the hard way to make sure they have not been left set by the previous occupant of the room.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to DR Ginny!

My boss's candle of the day is "Dark Amber with Oud."
-
Natural oud, the scent (the essential oil), arises when a particular fungus places itself on an aquilaria tree.

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Inside Man
Silence of the Lambs
Tom Sawyer
Bugsy Malone
Freaky Friday

Monday afternoon greetings! Richard and I have deposited a curb full of trash for tomorrow’s pickup and we’re about to take a carload to Goodwill.
I have put out my trash for tomorrow morning's pickup. The container was full, so there was no need to wait until tonight or morning.
I also made a trip to our recycling center with a trunk full of cardboard product...it's good to get rid of it.
I stopped at a local market for a loaf of bread, some tomatoes, hamburger buns and lite salt.
I feel SO accomplished.
-
Graeter’s just announced a “bonus flavor” - Buttery Popcorn: A sweet & salty, buttery ice cream with crunchy popcorn clusters. Now, I like popcorn and I like ice cream but NOPE.
Not even once? I'd have to try that, even if it was just a small cup.

DR RON PULLIAM I have also played Lionel Toop.....and run around the stage in my underwear.
That WAS fun, wasn't it!! Of course, I wore boxers.
-
I think I recall that the Crayola 64 box (with build-in sharpener) had a color called "Dark Umber."
Just so long as you remember that you could not use that color for apples.
They even wrote a song!
Don't Dark Umber the Apple Tree, for anyone who can see...!!!
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Hoo and ray.
-
A few more of those and I'll be better.
-
And who woke up the knocker uppers?
And what if the woke knocker uppers were knocked up?
Yes, I went there.
But you didn't go here: Did the upper knockers wake anyone up?
-
Yes, I'm still a SAG member.
-
And a DGA member.

Worthy of celebration!!! That first professional job is always the one you remember.
-
I wrote about See How The Run - it's all style, no interesting story, thinks it's funny when it's not, but I did love Saorise Ronan even though she had nothing really to play.
-
Bruce, are you an SCL member, too?

Essentially thankless roles for both her and Rockwell.

I was an SCL member for five years, never went to a single screening or event, so I stopped.

On June 29th I received an email that my confiscated medication would be shipped again. I never received a reply asking how they can resend something I was told was not permitted.
-
On July 1st it was processed.
-
On July 6th it was received at the LA post office where it, once again, sat. I was sure customs had red flagged me and was going to keep it again.
-
Today I received my bottle of medication, not that I need it anymore-lol

Don't Dark Umber the Apple Tree, for anyone who can see...!!!

I wish I remembered how soon after that we went to Disneyland. It was sometime that same summer.

We were going as a family 2 to 3 times per year in the 1967-1970 timeframe.

DR Jane - I'll drink your pickle juice. :)

But I don't know if that will help with your leg cramps.

IMO, walking from my bed to the refrigerator at night to get the pickle juice would also relieve the intensity of the cramp ;)

Had another long telephonic conversation and that resulted in my having to cut and paste some stuff to later in the story I'm writing, but now everything finally makes sense.
-
Then Muse Margaret called and she finally saw the first three episodes of Sami and loved them for all the reasons I want people to love the show for. I also ran an alternate title to this thing I'm writing, and even though she'd liked my first attempt, she liked this one even better.

I played a vicar (the Reverend Lionel Toop) in one production when I was in college, and, as president of the little theater group, I produced a version in Naples, Italy, in 1976.
Vixdad and I had the opposite reaction. We found it funny and entertaining.
I knew it must appeal to a lot of folks. I was a bit tired when I watched, and it didn't keep me from a 20-minute nap, but I did rewind and see it all.

Favorite Jodie Foster films:
Silence of the Lambs
Maverick
Contact
Panic Room
Flight Plan
I enjoy many of her earlier works, like "Alice doesn't Live Here Any More", "Tom Sawyer", "Candleshoe", and have admired other performances which, all things considered, don't really connect as films I would watch again, but she was splendid in them...films such as "Nell", "Sommersby", "Taxi Driver" and "Freaky Friday", etc.

I watched a movie this afternoon that I had been totally unaware of: "Moonfall", directed by Roland Emmerich. It stars Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson.
Not a bad sci-fi film..it certainly had a doozy of a premise. That said, I won't watch it ever again. Nothing awful about it, but no truly exceptional moments, either.

Last night, I watched a movie I had heard of but, for whatever, reason had never seen. It was Larry Kramer's "The Normal Heart".
I remember the activism of those early days of AIDS. The mortality rate was through the roof. No one in government cared to lift a finger. The NIH was a particularly ineffective organization with its leader not fronting anything that wasn't his idea or his treatment plan.
The film is very well done, and the leads are quite solid, including Taylor Kitsch.
The day before, I finished off watching "Angels in America" which resonates as a masterful story on all levels.

I am fairly we will get off this page soon enough.
-
It's just me and "0 guests" right now.

I have started watching "Fringe"...and am through the 5th episode of season 1. I watched the show faithfully when it aired on the Fox channel way back when I live in Oakland.
It packs quite a bit of story into each and every episode, and it lives up to the idea that "fring" science is very much in play in the world around us.
-
I see that George is now back among the acitve viewers, so perhaps he can move us along onto page 8.
-
If not, I'll do a DR slackjaw countdown.

I remember watching this when it originally aired and I really liked it, but it did take a while for it to settle and find its legs.

You didn't need me. ;D
-
I'm now watching an episode of "Finding Your Roots" that I'd saved on my DVR.
-
Carol Burnett and Niecy Nash are the participants.
-
From Here to Eternity is done.
-
Good night, all.
-
As always, I'm sure it'll be quite fascinating.

The repugs are saying the quiet out loud. :P
-
But, they're saying them louder than before.
-
And more states are planning on making more intrusive laws than ever before. >:(
-
That's it? We can't even get to page nine?
-
Not even halfway.
-
Well, we won't be breaking any records this month, that's for certain.
-
Look what major number I'm heading towards.
-
George, of course, has disappeared completely.
-
I haven't.
-
I am here, not down some damn rabbit hole or eating free tacos.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And still, no George.
-
Not a trace.
-
Not a peep.
-
Just gone with the wind.
-
Not a sign.
-
Just gone, baby, gone.
-
Page nine.
-
George, of course, has disappeared completely.
No, I need to cleanse my viewing palate, and now I'm watching Antiques Roadshow.
-
And still, no George.
I'm still here.
