Well, you've read the notes, the notes were eventful and spoke of events, and now it is time for you to post until the eventful cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PERQUISITE!
-
Congrats, BK, on finally receiving your statue for the Best Web Series from the LA Film Awards!
-
And now, to sleep, so that I may be bright eyed and bushy tailed for the drive to and day at the beach!
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.

ASK BK:
When you are writing a murder mystery, at what point in the process do you begin to know who done it?

-
Good morning, all!

I am so glad my friend Jason is coming over Friday to help me set up my new computer. This one is way past its expiration date, and I thought it was dying this morning.
-
This morning around 9:00 I will walk one block to my barber for an overdue haircut. After that Access-a-Ride will take me to Pildes Optical to drop off my prescription for new glasses. On the way back, I will stop at Staples to scan several ballet scores.

There was no MegaMillions winner last night. Sorry, DR vixmom.
-
Good morning, all.

Nice award, BK.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I was awake at least an hour and a half early this morning. And come to think of it, I was up a little too late last night. So shame on me. Must make that up tonight.
-
I wonder if I've ever watched that trailer for Chinatown. Must do that.

There was no MegaMillions winner last night. Sorry, DR vixmom.
They’re just building it up for me

In the past two days, I have heard two different renditions of "'Till There Was You" where the singer learned the melody wrong. Beyond artistic license.

I won't name names, but one singer's initials were Frank Sinatra.

I won't name names, but one singer's initials were Frank Sinatra.
Could you give us another clue?

Another warm day ahead. Mid-90s, at least.

I found a youtube video of Audra MacDonald singing a mashup of "What Can You Lose" and "As the Days Go By".
Performance 10; Arrangement 0
When Audra sings, it's heaven. But there are too many lengthy waits while the tunes try to reassert themselves into the right melody.
Sound and video quality not so hot, though.
-
I also found a male vocalist singing "As the Days Go By". Great voice, but he stands stock still, hands straight down his sides, and only his hands move while he is singing.
Expressiveness in voice; stultifyingly inert in presence.

Hello, DR Rodzinski. I hope your day is going well!

DR George, have a nice day in Westport.
-
DR Rodzinski, I hope the staff that told Mrs R it was ok to be 10 minutes late apologized for the doctor leaving, and for not calling back to say he left.
-
My bank branch on 82nd and Broadway is moving to 79th Street and Broadway. So last Friday, I called the bank to ask if they were still at 82nd Street. The lady I spoke to told me this was their last day at 82nd Street and on Monday they would be at their noew location.
-
From Rodzinski:
Was in Blaine area yesterday with the kids at a go-kart and mini railroad park. Found a fun ice cream/taffy/candy store near a beach in Birch Bay. Old-time vibes.
It sounds like a fun day.
-
From Rodzinski:
The two highway borders back into the US had long waits, so I tried the 3rd border over, into Lynden, WA. Less of a wait, but boy, you drive that half hour over and suddenly you are in real hillbilly country. I expected Bo and Luke Duke to come speeding by me on the run from Roscoe.
;D
-
Thank you. A meet-aversary, really.
Sweet :)
-
So, when I planned my itinerary for today it was barber ay 83rd and Amsterdam, then Access-a-Rid would take me to Pildes Optical at 77th and Broadway. I would take a taxi to 79th Street, visit my bank, get Access-a-Ride casah, and then go to Staples and scan the scores before I went home.
-
From Vixmom:
They informed me that they were informed that some people believe the phrase “you’re welcome” is passive aggressive
:o :o
-
Therefore they only say “mmmmmmmm” when someone says thank you
I hope they have been told that is rude-lol
-
I try to remember not to say "no problem" as that is also a bit of a rude response.
-
Everything went well, the weather was great. I was moving on schedule, and it all went to hell when I got to my bank. They were closed; the new branch wasn't opening until Monday, August 7. The lady I spoke to last Friday is a god damned liar. I walked to Staples, got a taxi and came home. I have to step out either tomorrow or Friday for my Access-a-Ride cash.
-
I do admit to give sarcastic "You are welcome" responses when people don't say thank you.
-
Did I hold the door for you? Ok, didn’t thank me within 6 seconds? Now I grab you and pull you backwards through the door.
:))

ASK BK:
When you are writing a murder mystery, at what point in the process do you begin to know who done it?
Never at the start. I go on the journey with the detective, whether Adriana or Harry Stearns. I usually decide about halfway through, sometimes a bit later, but not much. For Writer's Block and Rewind, I knew going in because those aren't detective books.

I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.

Ron Pulliam - if you want to hear a superb put-together and arrangement of You're Gonna Love Tomorrow/Not a Day Goes By, which actually make sense together and you'll hear how we get them to work together, try this: https://youtu.be/aO1gfE3V6t4

DR Rodzinski, I hope the staff that told Mrs R it was ok to be 10 minutes late apologized for the doctor leaving, and for not calling back to say he left.
They were apologetic. The doctor said she had to leave because she had a headache. This was for the results of a cancer treatment my MIL is undergoing, by the way.
-
Good Morning. I think I'm all caught up.
Last nights run-through was better than Monday's so I do believe we are on our way to opening on Friday. First audience is tomorrow and that's usually friends, so that doesn't really count because they will applaud for anything. Friday is opening, probably friends again. LOL. I don't think my banjo player has a clue one way or another. As long as he's picking away and making banjo sounds, that's fine with me. Sometimes I just wanted to find a banjo animatronic and play all the parts on a keyboard. It will be fine.
-
Hello, DR Rodzinski. I hope your day is going well!
I see you!!
Hi Ron! Oddly, I was out mowing the lawn. But must have been logged in somehow. Good day to you, sir!
-
Now Ron is gone... We were like two ships passing in the night.
-
Sorry about your bank, DR elmore3003.
-
Thanks for answering my question, BK.
-
Now Ron is gone... We were like two ships passing in the night.
Perhaps DR Rodzinski will draw us a diagram.
-
Good news about your run-through, DR Matthew.

Nice!
-
What do folks feel about that old cabaret trope where singers say "thank you" to their audience during the song playout but before the audience has started clapping? Is that passive aggressive?
-
In the Will Farrell/Ryan Reynolds holiday musical "Spirited," there is a whole razzle-dazzle showstopping number about using "good afternoon" as a passive-aggressive put-down.
-
Lucky #80
-
I hope DR Ron Pulliam will share the outcome of his dilemma posed yesterday. If he's comfortable doing so. Once it's over.
-
Good to hear DR Matthew's dress rehearsals are proceeding well. Too bad about the banjo player. I daresay we've all been there with one instrument or another.
That's better than the ADDAMS I attended a couple of weeks ago, in which I could often not hear either of the reeds or the trombone. Actually, I think what happened there is that the keyboards were in the sound system but the others weren't miked. And I really don't like it when that's done.
-
As for my current musical adventures, and I'm sure DR Matthew is way ahead of me on these pieces:
I'm crash-learning "I'm Not Afraid..." from Songs For a New World and the title song from The Light in the Piazza for an upcoming recital, and there have been moments in which I feel like I'm struggling to read music and play a piano for the first time.
(And yes, of course there'll be some Sondheim. Fortunately, only "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and "I Know Things Now". It could be worse. Much worse.)
-

Got it in 5. It was a bear.

I didn’t like the Sutton-Sierra mashup of Losing My Mind and Not a Day Goes By. Individually, the sngs were lovely, but the mashup finale wasn’t.
-
Stella has been making some god-awful sounds today. I hope she's okay.

Mashups should be called smashups, in my opinion.

Have fun with those songs. I actually haven't had the need to look at them. I once had to sight read a run-through of [i[The Light in the Piazza[/i] couldn't tell you much about that as it was like being under water for 3 hours. JRB and I don't always get along, too many unnecessary notes for my test. I love playing Sondheim, though - to me, it always makes sense!

I hope she really was suffering and is actually a sympathetic doctor. Maybe the doctor will be willing to do a video or audio conference with the results.

Ditto.

Banjo Sounds - that's the title of my new CD that is dropping on Tuesday.
-
You're welcome.
-
I am just now catching up on the posts from the 1st.
-
I am taking a photograph of my grandmother and her 10 kids that was taken in the summer of 1927 to rehearsal tonight just to show everyone how REAL folks looked back then.
-
How big was the worm that was mistaken for a snake? ;D
-
My grandfather was in North Carolina at a sanitarium to try to cure his tuberculosis.....and you can guess how that turned out.
-
DR John I am sorry about your plants.
-
Once his bank account was empty - he was sent home to expire.
-
Better rest of the day vibes for DR ELMORE.
Maybe Stella is seeing full moon ghosts!
-
Looks like a might rain later this evening so I will drive Petey instead of Dennis to rehearsal.

Most people don't have a clew how to put together a put-together. I'm pretty good at it because I understand how they need to function in terms of storytelling and connecting the songs together. When Alex Rybeck and Liz first played me their put-together of I'll Know and Somebody Somewhere it made no sense to me because it was just the two songs with a four-bar turnaround between them. I told them it had to make musical sense that they were together and asked Alex to put some of the accompaniment for I'll Know in the underscore for Somebody Somewhere (or maybe it was the other way around) and to tie everything together seamlessly, which he did brilliantly. If you listen to A Broadway Love Story, you'll hear me doing that constantly when there's a put together - and it just makes everything work.
-
Futzed and finessed, wrote half a new page, am having some food, and then I'll do at least four or five new pages.

The search for the grail continues, on Broadway this fall! Direct from a sold out run at the Kennedy Center, it has been announced today that the Tony Award-winning Best Musical comedy Monty Python’s Spamalot will return to Broadway this fall at the St. James Theatre. Performances begin Tuesday, October 31, 2023, and the official opening knight is Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Yay, Keith booked flights for us to visit the kids next month.
-
The flight info automatically connects with our calendar.
-
One problem though....
-
It puts our local time for the flights instead of our departing location.
-
I noticed as it said we were returning at 4:15AM
-
No thank you.
-
7:15AM is early enough.
-
Six pages so far. I think I'm five or six away from the end of the chapter, so I'll definitely write that tonight, and I'll at least write a couple of paragraphs of the new chapter so I'm into it.
-
Rehearsal went well and we will finish blocking Act One tomorrow night.
I am sure my process is painfully slow to some.....but I am knocking the blocking into the heads of the actors with short bursts and repetition so hopefully when we get onstage we can go full steam ahead.
Although I am not doing a lot of "acting directing" I am giving notes and helping folks through the process.....
My blessing is that everyone is on board and doing the same play that I am doing...so....so far.....so good.
-
You're welcome.
-
Seems like Thursday but it is only Wednesday.
-
Tomorrow I have a follow up with my sugar doctor.....T. Feldman.....who is very good, but who looks about 12 years old....hopefully he will find that I have followed his instructions and am moving right ahead....and about 35 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning of May.

I am too cold cuz the air is blowing on me.

Glad for your trip, DR Jane.
-
Sorry about your mom, DR John G.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Page six my ASS.
-
Had a little pasta with butter and cheese and that's it for this evening. Now back to writing - eight pages so far and still haven't finished the damn chapter.
-
Watching a little more Ren and Stimpy.
-
Sadly, nothing so far on disc 2 is humorous.
-
Not much into anything tonight
-
I’m loving the new Lorrie Moore book.
-
But no powers of concentration.
-
Vibes for John’s mom
-
It has been enormously busy at work
-
Which I don’t mind at all
-
It helps the time pass quickly
-
Still talking with people about the you’re welcome. And no problem thing
-
Definitely is generational
-
Jane said earlier that she thought “no problem” is rude
-
I am definitely irritated by the phrase
-
Meanwhile my younger friends use it all the time and think it sounds warmer, friendlier snd more sincere than you’re welcome
-
Then my English friend mentioned she had said “ bless your heart” to our southern friend ( a life long resident North Carolina
-
The English gal was shocked to learn that the NC gal’s understanding of the phrase was much different than hers
-
I use both. Dunno. Depends on the situation.
-
Seven!
-
No problem seven!
-
You’re welcome seven!
-
Listened to 110 in the Shade today.
-
Fun score.

But we all knew that.

Good night, all.

Good night

I do not care for page seven.

And why are we ON page seven?
-
DR George, have a nice day in Westport.
Thanks, Jane! We did!
-
Yesterday, the site was down for three hours.
-
It was not down for three hours today.
-
So, where in tarnation IS everyone.
-
What?
-
Did someone say something?
-
I didn't really watch anything tonight. I did write about fourteen pages, but a couple of those pages don't have all that much on them. I did finish the chapter. I am currently on manuscript page 242. And depending on how things progress, that's halfway through. Novella my ASS.
-
Research on this one can sometimes really be intense.
-
Here's the beach:
-
And here's a selfie with my niece that I took:
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
And here's my foot in the ocean:
-
I forget what beach that was, but after playing in the water for a while, we went to Westport and walked around the shops.
-
My niece and I got some fudge at a local place, but I haven't had any of mine, yet.
-
I got some for my friends Shelly and Margo.
-
I was able to text Shelly at the time and she specified what fudge flavors she wanted (orange cream, huckleberry cheesecake, and lemon cream) and was able to get them to her tonight.
-
Margo didn't get back to me until after we left town, so I'll let her choose from the flavors that I got and will keep the rest for myself.
-
Here's a picture of me, my niece and my mom:
-
And just on the other side of the railing in the water were jellyfish!
-
After leaving Westport, we went back a few miles and stopped at a local winery.
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
We stopped at a Subway in Aberdeen and got sub sandwiches for us, and we ate them at the little park right at the entrance to the ocean (I didn't take any pictures of our food ::) ).
-
We each only ate half of our sandwiches.
-
We stopped at the winery mainly to finish our sub sandwiches.
-
We discovered a small bench behind the building that was in the shade and we ate there.
-
This was the view of the lighthouse that is in front of the winery, taken from the bench:
-
After finishing our food, we packed up and came home.
-
There were, of course, a lot of details left out, but a good time was had by all. :)
-
Delightful Washingtonian adventures!
-
I brought my mom home, then my niece, then I got gas, then I visited my friend Shelly and delivered her fudge.
-
And now, I'm home.
-
Delightful Washingtonian adventures!
Thanks, Rodzinski!
-
I was myself back in Bellingham for a family eye appointment. Then I hit up an antique mall, and a nice Italian spot in town then we drove down along the coast just to Fairhaven, which is lovely.
Then Costco.
-
So we were on the same land mass for a bit.
-
I guess we’re always on the same landmass, since I don’t live on an island. The same Washington is more accurate.

I was myself back in Bellingham for a family eye appointment. Then I hit up an antique mall, and a nice Italian spot in town then we drove down along the coast just to Fairhaven, which is lovely.
Then Costco.
Very nice!

Now, to ketchup on today's posts.

Took the kids to the library this morning and while they played I flipped through a kind of biography of Tim Conway by his daughter. Basically he seems like a good guy, but the book veers into an agenda where the daughter is angry at her stepmother who she clashed with about caring for Conway when he was suffering dementia and whatnot. It’s never clear why the stepmom, who his daughter was fond of, turned so harshly against the daughter. Puzzling and unfortunate.
-
The daughter did make public claims that Conway’s wife was neglecting him. But she lost any legal challenges she tried to become his caregiver. And I guess some of her brothers do not side with her. So…not really sure wtf went on.

Ron Pulliam - if you want to hear a superb put-together and arrangement of You're Gonna Love Tomorrow/Not a Day Goes By, which actually make sense together and you'll hear how we get them to work together, try this: https://youtu.be/aO1gfE3V6t4
Wow...she was great, and so was the arrangement.

Now Ron is gone... We were like two ships passing in the night.
Barry Manilow wrote recorded a song about that (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv69SIjJhRY).
Post adjusted ;)

Yay, Keith booked flights for us to visit the kids next month.
Cool!. Have a great time, Jane!

Tomorrow I have a follow up with my sugar doctor.....T. Feldman.....who is very good, but who looks about 12 years old....hopefully he will find that I have followed his instructions and am moving right ahead....and about 35 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning of May.
That's great, and good luck, Jrand!

Mom’s not well today.

He sang it nicely, though it was written by Ian Hunter of rock band Mott the Hoople.

Barry was adventurous in song choices in the ‘80s.
-
I love his version of Jim Steinman’s “Read em and Weep.”

And we’ve almost done it.

A year ago, we had arrived in our new life on the West Coast, but we didn’t close on the house till the 8th and our stuff didn’t arrive and get moved in until the 12th.
-
We were greeted with a heat dome for our first week, and I was certain my 60 boxes of records were going to be melted into ooze in storage, but they made it through, as Barry would sing.

For the upcoming cruise later this month I am taking 3 books.
Preview Harvey and two autobiographies by David Niven.

This weekend is a 3-day weekend in celebration of BC Day.
Provinces all have their own days.
-
BC Day not to be confused with Ask BK Day.
-
I do love having late-night denizens here.
-
I really do.

Do, do, do.
