As for my current musical adventures, and I'm sure DR Matthew is way ahead of me on these pieces:

I'm crash-learning "I'm Not Afraid..." from Songs For a New World and the title song from The Light in the Piazza for an upcoming recital, and there have been moments in which I feel like I'm struggling to read music and play a piano for the first time.

(And yes, of course there'll be some Sondheim. Fortunately, only "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and "I Know Things Now". It could be worse. Much worse.)

Have fun with those songs.  I actually haven't had the need to look at them.  I once had to sight read a run-through of [i[The Light in the Piazza[/i]  couldn't tell you much about that as it was like being under water for 3 hours.  JRB and I don't always get along, too many unnecessary notes for my test. I love playing Sondheim, though - to me, it always makes sense!

DR Rodzinski, I hope the staff that told Mrs R it was ok to be 10 minutes late apologized for the doctor leaving, and for not calling back to say he left.

They were apologetic. The doctor said she had to leave because she had a headache. This was for the results of a cancer treatment my MIL is undergoing, by the way.

I hope she really was suffering and is actually a sympathetic doctor.  Maybe the doctor will be willing to do a video or audio conference with the results.

Good to hear DR Matthew's dress rehearsals are proceeding well. Too bad about the banjo player.

Ditto.

I am taking a photograph of my grandmother and her 10 kids that was taken in the summer of 1927 to rehearsal tonight just to show everyone how REAL folks looked back then.

Most people don't have a clew how to put together a put-together. I'm pretty good at it because I understand how they need to function in terms of storytelling and connecting the songs together. When Alex Rybeck and Liz first played me their put-together of I'll Know and Somebody Somewhere it made no sense to me because it was just the two songs with a four-bar turnaround between them. I told them it had to make musical sense that they were together and asked Alex to put some of the accompaniment for I'll Know in the underscore for Somebody Somewhere (or maybe it was the other way around) and to tie everything together seamlessly, which he did brilliantly. If you listen to A Broadway Love Story, you'll hear me doing that constantly when there's a put together - and it just makes everything work.

The search for the grail continues, on Broadway this fall! Direct from a sold out run at the Kennedy Center, it has been announced today that the Tony Award-winning Best Musical comedy Monty Python’s Spamalot will return to Broadway this fall at the St. James Theatre. Performances begin Tuesday, October 31, 2023, and the official opening knight is Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Spamalot will be the first production from the Kennedy Center’s Broadway Center Stage series to transfer to Broadway since its inception in 2018 under Finn’s leadership. Josh Rhodes will return from the Kennedy Center production to direct and choreograph on Broadway.
