Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of finishing the book 24, and now it is time for the 24 finished cows to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: JUBILANT!
-
Or in my case: JEWBILANT!
-
Welcome 185 GUESTS.
-
Novella my ASS.
-
~~~Continued Vibes for a Modern Major Miracle for BK!!~~~
-
And good luck in coercing someone to go for a celebratory e-mail! ;)
-
:D
-
Good morning, friends.
-
CONGRATULATIONS on finishing book 24, BK. That's quite an accomplishment!
-
~~~CONTINUED MODERN MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!!
-
My friend and former co-worker, Gina, sadly passed away some years ago.
Here she is, onstage at the Metropolitan Opera, at age 12, playing the (silent) role of the son to Renata Scotto's Butterfly. (She was quite tiny)
Below is what she looked like when I knew her.
-
I had a day yesterday of watching various things on TV...mostly movies on Amazon Prime.
One movie, "Evil Under the Sun", depressed me when I am generally uplifted by it. This time, it was the harsh realization that all the major players, except Maggie Smith, are now dead. Gone. Poof.
It got me to wondering whether they didn't want to go or whether they went on to a better place and left the rest of us behind.
-
Another film, "Knock at the Cabin Door", was by M. Night Shyamalan.
Interesting cast. Unusual premise. Well made, but....there really isn't any tension or suspense or terror, even though it's a horror-type movie.
I guess that's the "twist". Everyone is who they say they are and only one character refuses to believe them despite evidence to the contrary. The ending relies upon that character finally accepting the truth. It's sad, but not terrifying.
It might have been a Rod Serling-type story except for the length.
-
Thanks, DR Ron Pulliam. I was curious about that one.
-
Happy Friday, all.
Yes, here it is another Friday.
I often wonder why my days never moved by so quickly when I was working.
-
This morning I was downstairs on the treadmill, sweatin' to the oldies. And by oldies, I mean Broadway cast albums.
-
Thanks, DR Ron Pulliam. I was curious about that one.
Worth your time, if you have any to spare.
-
This morning I was downstairs on the treadmill, sweatin' to the oldies. And by oldies, I mean Broadway cast albums.
Anything in particular?

Miracle vibes for MR BK.

And great congrats to MR BK on finishing his novella......I mean.....NOVEL.
-
I have an image of you sweating along with "Dance to the Music of the Ocarina".

Perspective! It's all a matter of perspective!
-
Everyone have a great day.
-
Actually, that is the premise of the next M. Night Shayamalan epic.
-
I am going to the store in a bit to get something I forgot on Tuesday....Bacon Bits!
Also some paper towels and maybe a this and that.....then stopping by the bank and check out what's what at Goodwill.

Novella, my ASS.
-
DR Jrand72, that to-do list is covering quite a lot of ground in your one-horse town.
-
You'll run the gamut from A to B.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well. Around 5:00 this morning I woke to serious lightning and thunder that sent the cats scurrying into hiding. I sat up, turned off the alarm, and went back to bed. Annabelle arrived to cuddle under the blankets, and then Stella showed up. Scaredy-cat Thatch stayed in hiding. When I woke and decided to get out of bed, it was almost 6:45.
-
I had a very strange dream that I remember fragments of: I was in Brooklyn visiting Jewish friends. There was clearly some event going on. The lady whose house it was may have been a performer at one point. Her husband was an invalid who stayed in his room, where a young lady played piano to soothe him - show tunes and light classics. The hostess kept gicing mew foods in containers, including a wonderful dish of some fish served in a golden colored cream sauce. I left the even with a bag full of food. The lady walked me to the subway, but it was the downtown side of the tracks going further into Brooklyn. I remember, too, that I realized I neither knew whose house I had visited nor the address, /It would be impossible to visit them again.
-
Since I was on the wrong side of the subway, I walked out of the station to find the entrance to the uptown tracks. I couldn't find it so I took a bus. I remember no more of the dream except someone - perhaps a neighbor in my building - raved about how delicious the fish was.
-
I'm hoping I can finish No. 39 today. When I was at Sraples on Wednesday, I photocopied 20 pages of four-stave paper, so I can begin No. 38.
-
DR slingshot, I'm so sorry for your friend Gina and her family.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congratulations, BK, on finishing 24!
-
Do you experience post-novella my ASS depression?
-
DR slingshot, I'm so sorry for your friend Gina and her family.
My sympathies.
-
I must stir.
-
I wish you mustn't.
-
But I suppose it is inevitable.

DR ELMORE the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your very interesting dream indicates that you would travel far for nourishment - for your body OR your brain.
You consider being lost just an opportunity to explore - but you visiting someplace once is usually enough.
-
Yes DR singdaw my horse and I had quite the experience this morning.
-
Hilarious, DR elmore3003. And so true.
-
First of all one of lights on the 4 lane highway was flashing red instead operating, so everyone was treating it as a 4-way stop.....almost everyone.
Then inside WalMart I had my paper towels and bacon bits in my cart and was moseying around looking at file folders and computers when I heard all kinds of yelling and commotion from the front of the store.
Cussing and carrying on.....ending with "Stop her! Stop that girl!"
And a young girl in her teens wearing black jeans and white sweatshirt ran down the aisle a few shelves from me. I watched her as she headed for the automotive dept.
One of the checkers was telling me a story about homeless folks and how they had wandered into the store asking for shoes and clothes....
There were lots of groups of top brass employees in confabs all over the store as I checked out.....
-
As far as I know, she is still on the lam.
-
As far as I know, she is still on the lam.
Bless her heart!
-
I feel bad for the homeless.
I feel especially bad that they have to beg for essentials.
-
I also feel bad that far too many organizations that purport to help the homeless have an unusually high overhead meaning that only a small percentage of anyone's monetary contributions actually help the homeless.
-
I would rather feel good.
-
I just heard the chorus backing Doris Day on "Happy Talk" sing "I'm a lucky cuss."
-
The problem with life on the lam is that there's no mint jelly.
-
I'm not THAT good of a magician!
-
From John:
I’m a quarter into Tom Lake. The combination of good novel and Meryl Streep reading it is keeping a smile permanently on my face.
I will have to listen to the sample.
-
Bruce, congratulations on completing your second novel for the year.
-
THE PRIME OF LIFE by Isaac Asimov
DR George, thanks for that :)
-
From George:
Pronunciation note: In the humorous poem "The Prime of Life" published in the anthology The Bicentennial Man and Other Stories, Asimov rhymes his name thusly: "Why, mazel tov, it's Asimov". In his comments to the poem Asimov wrote that originally it was "Why, stars above, it's Asimov", and when someone* suggested to use "mazel tov" instead, Asimov accepted this as a significant improvement.
That was interesting.

I don't know that story, DR Jane. I'd imagine there was some kind of a connection.

Apparently coolant is rather expensive, and it has been awhile since we have had the units serviced.

He has sealed the leak in the line which caused us to need so much coolant :)

DR George, thanks for that :)

Both my sister and I learned that poem when we were kids, and I still remember the whole thing...although, I did search it online to be able to copy and paste it into the posts.

I can only get vaccinations in my left arm. If they do it high up in my right arm, the one that always hurts cuz of my shoulder, it feels like the shot hit my bone.
-
I only ever get one vaccination at a time anyway. If there are side effects I only want to deal with one set at a time, and I want to know which vaccination caused them.

When you get vaccinations at the pharmacy they ask which arm you want it in. I would expect there to be a record of that, or if you still have the paperwork it might be on there.
-
I just looked at my saved paperwork from yesterday and it states left arm. I didn't look at our online records to see if it also states it there.

The rest of the day will be the rest of the meetings and probably a bike ride - and looking over the sides for tomorrows callback for White Christmas
-
Sorry to hear about the covid cancellations.
They’re happening in this region, too. Not too far from here, cast AND PIT of an Oliver! production were down for -- I don't know how long, but I think at least all last weekend.

I overslept this morning -- until 6:30 a.m. So instead of walking outside, I went to the mall to walk. Air conditioned and good footing. But it does no good for one's soul.

There was some kind of a fight there a couple weeks ago -- there may or may not have been shots fired. But before the stores open, there are only old people walking there. And seemingly 16-year-old security guards.

I overslept this morning -- until 6:30 a.m. So instead of walking outside, I went to the mall to walk. Air conditioned and good footing. But it does no good for one's soul.
I have done mall walks in the winter and agree, they are not good for one's soul. Were there walking groups there?
-
And yet...
-
I would rather walk on a treadmill with my nose in a book.
-
...there are those who purportedly do not care for it.
-
I invested in a pair of wireless earbuds, and they have greatly enhanced my morning treadmill walks.
-
Which can be so boring.

Very boring. After we got rid of our treadmill and joined a gym I hated going on it. Now that I can read on my tablet I look forward to it.

I totally agree. I guess it's hard to say how hard it will hit people when they get it. I say unless you have a fever, or you feel bad in a way you're not used to feeling (we all get colds, allergies etc) then take a test. If not, take your cold meds and be on your way!

And you may notice (former) DR Jed in the middle row of the picture!
-
Finally finished Day of the Jackal. I know it's considered a classic, but I found it a very odd movie.
-
I've also slept on and off for about two hours.
-
It’s a cold movie, as I recall. Not my favorite.
-
This episode of Brokenwood uses Escape (The Pina Colada Song) as a clue.
-
Pretty sure I wrote about Cabin in the Woods.
That's a different movie from "Knock at the Cabin".
-
No, I wrote about the M. Night movie too.
-
Good night, all.
-
Let’s just get this moving towards 10.
-
Wildfires in Kelowna, BC and the Northwest Territories.
-
Not good.
-
Hope Jed enjoyed the show.
-
Amazed and glad for BK’s latest book completion. Seems not long ago he had just written a few pages. But they added up. Oh yes.
-
Goodbye 9.
-
Hello 10!
-
Wildfires in Kelowna, BC and the Northwest Territories.
Oh, no! :-\
-
Hope Jed enjoyed the show.
I saw him after the show and he really seemed to enjoy it.
-
Rather a windy day today.
-
I didn't get a chance to chat with him, though.

Glad to hear it. Though the real question is…
-
Did he enjoy your cues?
-
We just broke a 3-day streak of single-digit pages of posts.
-
And some more good news on the political front:
Trump expected to surrender to Fulton County jail on Thursday or Friday next week (https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/18/politics/when-trump-surrender-fulton-county-jail/index.html)

Did he enjoy your cues?
I'm going to say...everyone enjoys my cues. ;)

No more special treatment!

Our new Friday night tradition is to go to the in-laws retirement home and have dinner and then watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

I’ve not regularly watched these in decades especially Wheel. The show has changed so much since last I paid attention. Speed rounds, crossword puzzles, other gimmicks to keep it fresh.
-
Still glacially paced and hard to fathom Vanna White has been doing her thing since I was like 12.

A former co-worker said that her (adult) daughter was on Wheel of Fortune, and the contestants were told that if for any reason the episode didn't air, they wouldn't actually get any of the prizes that they won on the show. The prizes are essentially paid for by the advertising, so if they aren't advertised on the show when broadcast, they wouldn't be paid for.
-
There was a big cultural zeitgeist in the late ‘80s when Sajak got his own talk show (flop) and Vanna hit her own TV movie (embarrassment). Then they stayed in their lane for 40 years raking in cash.

I remember both of those "events." ::)

I would be so terrified until it aired!
-
And just because, here's Janis Siegel and Fred Hersch performing their duet rendition of "That Old Black Magic. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRfiovhnZoI)"
-
I love this version because for most of it, the time signature that they're playing in is 5/4.
-
Remember when Chuck Woolery hosted? And after every round, the contestants would “shop” for prizes? And there were always ceramic Dalmatians that nobody ever wanted?

My former co-worker was...probably more than her daughter!
-
Especially, if they won some big money and then weren't able to get any of it! :o

Yes! That was when it was on during the day.
-
5/4 is a cool time signature.

Could you imagine? You win a car and big money and the show isn’t shown due to a technical glitch?
-
ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING!
-
I guess why else would a show not air? The expense of filming them means they want to air them. Has to be very rare they don’t air.

Or preempted for some emergency.
-
Rodzinski, you've reached a momentous millstone! :D
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
