Well, you've read the notes, the notes had endings and beginnings, and now it is time for you to post until the ending and beginning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SWANKY!

Here’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, honoring Billy Crystal at the Kennedy Center Honors.

Notes vitalized. Revitalized.

Folks were talking about Malcolm Gets and I had a vague memory of having interviewed him some years back. I found the interview and it was Gets and Will Chase just about to open The Story of My Life at the Booth. So much optimism and talk of their chemistry together. The show only lasted five performances. :(
-
One of my favorite musicals is AMOUR, starring Malcolm Gets and Melissa Errico.
-
Music by Michel Legrand.
Melissa Errico has such a beautiful voice.

A gorgeous duet with Malcolm Gets and Melissa Errico.

It has an unusual plot, but I loved it, and never understood why it didn’t do well.
Amour
2002 Broadway Playbill
Music
Michel Legrand
Lyrics
Jeremy Sams (English lyrics)
The musical is adapted from the 1943 short story Le Passe-Muraille by Marcel Aymé and set in Paris shortly after World War II. It centers on a shy, unassuming clerk who develops the ability to walk through walls, and who challenges himself to stick to his moral center and change others' lives, and his own, as a result.
-
One more.
Norm Lewis as a painter. Another beautiful voice.

Have a good day, everyone!
🌻 🌺 🌈
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Between the high temperatures outside and the apartment hear it's too damned hot. When I turn on the AC, it cools down too much, so I remain stuck between Scylla and Charybdis. And sleep is terrible.
-
I slept in an hour late than usual, and I hate that.
-
I saw the Gets/Chase musical. It wasn't good, but there were a couple of wonderful songs. Jonathan Tunick's orchestrations were nice, and I remember that I liked the set. For me, the major problem was that the Gets character was gay and in love with Chase's character, only the whole issue was ignored whenever the material headed in that direvtion.
-
And the word of the day is: SWANKY!
-
Ain't we got fun?
-
Wakey, wakey!
-
Wakey, wakey!
LOL!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm awake.
Hallelujah!
Strange dreams.
None that bear remembering even if I recall parts of one with some clarity. The dream part is clear, that is, not what was happening in the dream. Sorry, Jack!
-
Well, it’s still a miserable head cold, and I’m still testing negative. That’s about all I can say right now.
-
Hang in there, DR ChasSmith!
-
Well, whaddaya know!
It's FRIDAY here in Johnston SC!!!
And according to this here blog site, it's December 29th!
Where in hang-it-all has this year gone?
-
I have zero New Year's resolutions to make.
I've never kept a single one in the previous years, so what's the point now?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Not a great night of sleep, but good enough. I blame the 24-hour decongestant.
-
I don’t remember any dreams.
-
Onward!
-
Two!
-
Last night, I watched a PBS show called "The Brokenwood Mysteries".
It was the 4th episode of Season 1, and I wasn't sure it would be a stand-alone mystery. Happily it was!
Not to belabor the point with details, I rather enjoyed it. There was a killing and there were several suspects. Once it was clear who the true killer was and the reasons, the show went a bit longer than it should have with a rather unsettlingly odd issue of the killer taking a hostage and traveling to the very place where the killing had taken place.
It's a worthy show, nonetheless, and fills a void in weekday night entertainment.
-
Two!
I shall mark you down with an "A" for math today.

Recovery vibes for MR BK.
And Shopping Vibes & Finding Vibes as well.

One of my favorite musicals is AMOUR, starring Malcolm Gets and Melissa Errico.
My memory is that I liked that show a lot!
-
Yesterday I watched a movie from 2013 titled Inside Llewyn Davis - a film from the Coen Brothers.
I had never heard of it - but I enjoyed it. A week in the life of a folk singer in 1961.
Quirky. And I enjoyed the music.
-
Nice links from DR IRIS.
-
Nice photo yesterday of Susan & Fred.

Another cloudy day.

Continued recovery vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
Sending more recovery vibes to Chas from here as well!
-
Nice photo yesterday of Susan & Fred.
It's nice when people associate the name Fred with Fred Astaire rather than Fred Flintstone or Fred Mertz. :)
-
The biggest problem with Fred Mertz was that it seemed impossible to convince him of one indisputable fact:
Ethel (played by Vivian Vance) was NOT fat! Why did her husband keep suggesting that she was fat?

One of my happiest memories, if I may live in the past a bit, was Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeting about the lyrics I was posting in the New York Times comments
Lin-Manuel Miranda very generously tweeted
"Freddie the NYTimes commenter is a local treasure" in Nov. 2015 -
https://twitter.com/lin_manuel/status/669222699361771520
That was very nice of him to encourage other writers.
The Times actually quoted his tweet a few months later.
towards the end of the article; you just have to scroll down a bit:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/06/01/service-advisory-artsbeat-is-finished/
when the Times hired me to write a farewell lyric to its ArtsBeat blog.

I arrived on the 23rd and had a nice time with my family. I managed to see everyone, except my nephew, so I’m happy about that. Last year I only saw one of my two brothers and his family because of the historic blizzard. My sister, former DR Kate, sends her regards to HHW!
-
That’s great that Lin-Manuel tweeted about you, DR Freddie!

I excitedly bought a toilet bowl motion sensor light a few years ago. I loved it, but the wife found it tacky and it was metaphorically flushed from our lives.
-
:)
-
I'm up, I'm up - only five hours of sleep or so. I'll probably try to get a bit more when I return.
-
Good Morning - I'm off to a post-Christmas brunch with some friends. That's all. Maybe more later.
-
I googled Glow Bowl ;D
Me, too. Had to, actually, since I'd never heard of it.
Ordered one via Amazon.com, as well!!!

Except for one place in town, all other restaurants are closed until next week.
I just picked up my fried chicken with fried okra and fried squash and hugh puppies.
That's 'cause today is "fry"-day, I guess.
-
Friday afternoon greetings! It’s been a very exciting few days since we arrived home from Illinois. On Wednesday our friends Katie and Mike visited and picked up a painting that we had inherited from friends of a friend and never used. It will now hang in their bed and breakfast in Oxford, OH.

I wonder if that one place that stayed open is now going to start getting more business from people trying them this week while the others were closed.

Wednesday evening we went to Cafe 210 for dinner. That’s the fancy new name for the dining room in the apartment building where Richard’s mother lived. For the first year we live here we get a dinner each and a lunch each every month. Had to use up our December tickets, so we had lunch there today, too.

Was the painting literally inherited, like after that friend of a friend passed away?
So nice that there's a place for it now!
-
Also on Wednesday we received an offer on our house, which we countered. That buyer had until 7pm yesterday to respond, but at 6pm our realtor told us a better offer was waiting in the wings. Having not heard from buyer #1, at 7:01 she sent us the new offer, which we accepted. I don’t want to jinx anything by sharing too many details, but we’re very pleased.

DR Freddie, the original owners have since passed on, but we acquired the painting when their son was clearing their apartment in this very retirement community before moving his parents to near his home in California.

I would not like lime gelatin, or jello, or any sweet food that is green.

It's possible that I may have read somewhere that the Hall & Oates lyric "Don't even think about it, say no go" was once a response to a lime gelatin dinner.

Hello, everyone.

Jrand’s not the only DR with Vista Vision!

I haven't had lime jello in ages. Sounds yummy! Maybe with some grapes floating in it.

Brian, my friend and cleaning guy, came over yesterday, bringing me a grocery order from TJ’s, and then helping with the cleaning. Unbeknownst to me, he’s been doing some tech support at the property management office where he works. (He only cleans for me because we’re friends and he likes the extra money.) He, too, has Spectrum and even the same modem and router that they provided. He felt right at home with it and proceeded to set up the new equipment. We did have to call Spectrum, but got through right away and the rep was helpful. Tada! Wi-Fi!
-
I’m back on the iPad instead of the iPhone. Sooo much easier! And Santa brought me a new iPad case, so it looks like new.
-
I had no idea that Brian had tech skills. Questions come up from time to time and some are just answered more easily in person. I will definitely keep Brian in mind for these. He’s good at minor handyman stuff, too, and I often ask his help while he’s here.
-
While he cleaned I did laundry and some other cleaning. Then he fixed the hinge on the kitchen cabinet. It broke the day after the handyman was here. I’d like him to come over again in a month or so when I’ve gone through more of my neighbor’s stuff.
-
Congrats to DR Ginny and DH Richard on their pending home sale. Your house is lovely and spacious. Is the Ohio real estate market strong in general?
Such a help to already have moved into your new home, too.

It's nice when people associate the name Fred with Fred Astaire rather than Fred Flintstone or Fred Mertz. :)
;D
-
We're watching the old series Inspector Morse.
A bit more gruesome than I was expecting.
-
Here’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, honoring Billy Crystal at the Kennedy Center Honors.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ_60q4sAbY
How nice!

Except for one place in town, all other restaurants are closed until next week.
I just picked up my fried chicken with fried okra and fried squash and hugh puppies.
That's 'cause today is "fry"-day, I guess.
I wonder if that one place that stayed open is now going to start getting more business from people trying them this week while the others were closed.
They usually do a good business, but today, I feel they likely had a bumper crop of customers. Today was fried fish day. I was there at noon and they were completely out of fish even though they opened at 11 and didn't close until 2.
-
Skip had been watching Endeavour, which is a more recent prequel to Inspector Morse. That struck me as less scary somehow.
-
Thanks, Jeanne!
-
You’ve heard of Hugh Beaumont, Hugh Downs and Hugh Jackman. DR Ron gives us, Hugh Puppies.
LOL

News about Jason Grase, Robert Yacko and that Sondheim fellow.

And from DR John G., we get Jason Grase. I'll be Jason Graae is beside himself at the near-copy of his name.
-
Ever since yesterday lime gelatin gives me the heebie jeebies.
Yes, concur.

Blame my bad typing.

Airplane! was still very funny, even though I knew all the jokes.
-
Now starting an independent flick called Winter House. Lily Taylor is the star, but I checked it out because Beth Fowler was listed in the cast.
-
It’s about a writer who rents a house during the winter and meets a drifter.
-
We're watching the old series Inspector Morse.
A bit more gruesome than I was expecting.
I started watching it for the second time myself. So many shows, yet so few of interest to me.
-
Congratulations on your offer Ginny!

Personally m I think Ron and John are vulnerable typpsists

Very good

I keep getting my days mixed up. I kept thinking that today was Saturday. “No, it’s Thursday. No, it’s Friday.” And I can’t believe that Monday is Jan 1. Am In some sort of time warp?
-
Must decide what’s for dinner.
TTFN.

The days will be easier to follow after the new year.

I am shocked 2023 is almost over.

Congrats to DR Ginny and DH Richard on their pending home sale. Your house is lovely and spacious. Is the Ohio real estate market strong in general?
Such a help to already have moved into your new home, too.
Thanks, Dr Jeanne! Our realtor Julee was concerned that things had cooled a bit in our area but I think an offer in less than a week that included Christmas is pretty remarkable. And it was her idea for us to move, have the house spruced up, and then list it. Good call.
-
Congratulations on your offer Ginny!
Thank you, DR Vixmom!
-
Uh wunofull
LOL!
-
Can we really be near page 7?
-
Page 7!
-
Ooooh! The forbidden page
-
Ooh, I hit 800 posts.
That's a pretty round number, isn't it?
-
Ooooh! The forbidden page
Why is 7 forbidden?
-
Let's do the Lambada. The Forbidden Dance.
-
I had kind of remembered the Lin Manuel Miranda tweet, but thanks for making that kudo prominent, DR Freddie. It bears repeating.
-
Are all of your lyric collections available for Kindle, do you know?
-
Last night, I watched a PBS show called "The Brokenwood Mysteries".
DR Jeanne turned me on to that series. It’s wonderful. All of the episodes are standalone. I think we’re up to nine seasons.
Yes, I enjoy the show’s quirkiness. And the scenery.
We watched the first episode of the series when it first aired. We had intended on watching the second episode and never did. I have completely forgotten what the first one was about.

Thanks so much for asking!

Volume 1 from 2013 is on Kindle.
https://www.amazon.com/21st-Century-Oldies-Parody-Lyrics-ebook/dp/B00FQ8VBVS/ref=monarch_sidesheet
The other four volumes aren't on Kindle, from what I see on the Amazon site.
-
Volume 1 was in 2013, but then volumes 2 and 3 were in 2016, volume 4 in 2017, and volume 5 in 2018.
I can't recall why I didn't do the extra work (or maybe it was extra cost for the re-formatting?) to add Kindle versions in 2016 vs. in 2013.

I hate to leave while we are still on page seven.
-
Alas I must.

Goodnight!

Gratuitous post 201!
-
Can’t count.
-
Ooooh! The forbidden page
Why is 7 forbidden?
Bruce doesn’t care for page 7
Does Bruce prefer page 8 to page 7?
-
Because getting to page 8 might not be THAT difficult.
-
Watching an odd movie called Waltzes from Vienna. Hitchcock’s only musical. It’s about the Strausses, pere et fils. Jesse Matthews stars. Edmund Gwenn is in the mix. Hitchcock hated it.
-
Ooooh! The forbidden page

Most definitely.
-
Maybe we can get to page 8 before BK comes back?
-
So on we go.
-
Onward!
-
Eight!
-
Onward and upward indeed.
-
I don't know if DR Jrand73 also got a ticket to tonight's MegaMillions drawing, or just for the Powerball tomorrow night.
-
Either way, we're expecting big winnings.
-
I never miss a good Alfred Hitchcock musical.
-
Good night, friends.
-
I never miss a good Alfred Hitchcock musical.
Exactly. It wasn’t his worst, but it wasn’t all that great either. It’s a filmed play and all of the sets look artificial.
-
I’m fading.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing for the moment.
-
Either way, we're expecting big winnings.
And "sharesies"....don't forget about "sharesies".
-
I bought 2 powerball tickets and 2 mega millions
-
Because change at the gas station
-
Where I paid 2.87 for regular
-
$47.00 fill the tank with the warning light on
-
Which was pretty good when it was taking close to $70 not that long ago
-
Mysteriously, since the gas prices have been dripping all the Biden “ I did that” stickers have disappeared
-
MAGA morons
-
I, also, am done with my evening viewings.
I enjoyed watching the Gator Bowl this afternoon. Kentucky outplayed Clemson for three quarters and it looked pitiful for the Tigers. By some miracle, Clemson scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to win 38-35.
-
Next, I watched "Saltburn".
Golly! I liked it overall. That's all I will say for now.
It is a disturbing film. It's beautifully acted, though.
-
I finished my evening viewing by watching the "Beyond Paradise" Christmas episode. I liked it quite a bit.
-
MAGA morons
Yes, maroons every one!
-
Anyway I must get to bed
-
We were watching Fireball XL5
-
Well I say “we”
-
Vixdad was watching I was casually glancing at the screen from time to time
-
George disappeared again? What are these nocturnal happenings that are nocturnal?
-
I do not understand nocturnal happenings.
-
I just don't.
-
Everyone should be here doing their nocturnal meanderings.
-
Reporting for nocturnal commission.
-
I, for one, enjoy lime jello.
-
With whipped cream.
-
In a little cup that you grab and put on your tray at a Ponderosa or other family steakhouse of days gone by, where you push your tray along a track and they give you a steak and you grab your jello dessert.
-
York Steakhouse in the Southlake Mall in Merrillville, Ind., that was fine dining to young me.
-
Of course, Denny’s was fine dining to me then, too.
-
When you’re in a family of 6 kids, Denny’s and quickie steakhouses are as fine as it gets.
-
Red Lobster? Now that was fancy eating.
-
Someone in my town had their 5th kid the other day. I don’t know how people could afford that nowadays.
-
Gratuitous Post #250!!

-
Hello, Rodzinski.
-
I went to my mom's this evening and we played two games of Phase 10.
-
I won one of them!
-
When I was at my mom's, something happened to my phone that slowed it down. :-\
-
The bar at the top that shows the time, and the app notifications and the 4GLTE and power level, etc., was only displaying the time of 8:02, and a bunch of notifications that I had already dismissed.
-
The only thing that I could think of to try was to close all the apps and restart my phone, which I did.
-
Everything looks quite normal now. :)
-
WHEW!!
-
I always forget how much I enjoy Jell-O. Perhaps I'll get some tomorrow. With whipped cream.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Folks were talking about Malcolm Gets and I had a vague memory of having interviewed him some years back. I found the interview and it was Gets and Will Chase just about to open The Story of My Life at the Booth. So much optimism and talk of their chemistry together. The show only lasted five performances. :(
Micheal, Tom and Jane's friend Sharry's husband and another actor from the Tacoma area performed that show here in Olympia at the Olympia Little Theatre.
-
I don't remember if they performed the show up in Tacoma and brought it down here, or if it was an OLT production, but it was very good.
-
I think it was the first time that I had seen Micheal act in a show.
