Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fun and gut-filled, and now it is time for you to post until the gut-filled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WINDFALL!
-
Congrats, BK, on your millstone!!

Good morning, all!
-
I slept badly so I decided to sleep in. It was nearly 7:30 when I finally stopped cuddling with Thatch and decided to get dressed.
-
I have to deal with my bank this morning and a few other irritating pieces of business.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Congratulations on your plunge, DR Rodzinski!
And your new avatar is quite spiffy.
-
I'm guessing it wasn't taken directly after the plunge.
-
If it were, I would not be smiling.
-
But that's just me.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to BK on his lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR George on his lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!
-
We're setting records left and right!
-
And right and left!
-
Not necessarily in that order.
-
Glad that the Do was done.
-
And that a good time was had by all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It’s a Monday.
No. It’s a Tuesday.
And it’s a return to Real Life.
-
So much to do this month.
Sitting. Contemplating where to begin.
-
Great news that the Do at BK's went so well!
-
Rodzinski - Very impressed by your taking part in the freezing water activity!
And also that's a really nice new avatar!
-
Congrats to George on your new posting millstone!
-
Congrats to BK on your posting millstone, too!
-
I think we're now on page 2!
-
Ron - That sounds like a terrific family gathering!
-
Happy January 2nd, 2024!
I slept well, but I dreamed tiresomely. I don't know why, and I don't really want to know.
The new year has begun, and I am uncertain just which path I wish to trod upon to get mind started.
So much to do, and total commitment required.
Sigh.
-
DR Rodzinski:
Nice new avatar, Dude!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I dreamt about making pink cake. It was fairly detailed. I kept wanting to change the recipe, but nothing I thought of seemed necessary. Except for adding a little strawberry extract.
-
Congratulations, BK and George, on your milestones.
-
I guess one of us did not win the lottery.
-
I have been on hold with my bank for nearly 60 goddamned minutes and still holding. I am not amused.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe three hours of sleep. Ate too much, too much garlic, too many onions.
-
Congrats to MR BK, DR GEORGE, and DR JANE on their new millstones!
My goodness such prolific writers you are!
-
AHA!
-
Last night I watched a new movie that has been discussed here and I will put it on the top of my list for the TOD:
The Holdovers - nice performances and the attention to 1970 detail in the hair, cars, clothes, and music and even the TITLES was wonderful.
Oppenheimer
Saltburn
-
I went to the gasoline station to fill up the newly re-tired (not retired) Smarty the Smart Car.
$15....as it only took half a tank....premium at $3.259 per. Almost 5 gallons.
-
Then I went to Burger King to get a Family Bundle (3 Whoppers, 3 cheeseburgers, 3 boxes of fries) for $17.89 with my coupon.
I am set for the rest of the week.
-
Congrats to MR BK, DR GEORGE, and DR JANE on their new millstones!
My goodness such prolific writers you are!
You're only 31 posts away!
But who's counting?
-
So many millstones happening all at once.
An event on a par with the Moon being in the seventh house and Jupiter aligning with Mars!
-
After an hour, I hung up the phone. Maybe I'll try later today.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR George on his lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!
Thanks, Singdaw!

Good Morning - Happy New Year! It's clean up the apartment day as the boys are back to camp today. We've had a lovely time hanging out together, they are both such good snugglers, with me and each other. Still off until Monday, January 8. Trying to stay out of trouble.
-
I remember going to Lake Tahoe with my parents and the water was super cold. I would just plunge in and swim fast until I warmed up. A few years later I swam in my aunt's pool. She warned me the heater was off and it was cold, but heck I swam in the cold lake. I dove in and immediately had a massive headache. After that I wasn't gung ho to swim in cold water.
-
Years later, pregnant in New Jersey with Craig I signed Bryan up for swim lessons. The only option, strange as it seems, was in a lake. My belly hit the cold water and I began having contractions aka braxton hicks. After that the teacher took Bryan in the water for me.
-
Next time I signed the kids up for swim lessons was in a nice pool where I was comfortable going into the water.
-
DR George, thank you twice :)
-
Thank you DR Vixmom.
-
And again Vixmom, thank you.

You have a nice long break.
-
Bruce I am pleased you had fun at your Do.
-
Back from banking - cashing check, three minutes - depositing cash - twenty minutes.
-
Why does it take so much longer to deposit cash than to cash the check?
Was it just a longer line?

Jane, no people at all at US Bank - ever. BofA - always slow, especially on the first of the month.

I futzed and finessed, and then wrote two new pages.

Congrats to George on your new posting millstone!

Thanks, Jane!

Topic of the Day (books):
Persepolis Rising (The Expanse, #7)
The Ink Black Heart (Cormoran Strike, #6)
Preview Harvey
Fugitive Telemetry (The Murderbot Diaries, #6)
Kritzer World [well, started in 2023, but still reading it ::) and thoroughly enjoying it, so far]
-
Topic of the Day (movies):
Oppenheimer
-
Jane, no people at all at US Bank - ever. BofA - always slow, especially on the first of the month.
I was surprised, however, it was Freddie that actually asked the question. Two different banks does solve the mystery.
-
My last read of the year was West with Giraffes. It is about the first pair of Giraffes at the San Diego Zoo and their 1938 cross country trip to get there after surviving a hurricane. Their story made national news and along the way people were excited to see giraffes. At the heart of the fictionaled story is the young man escaping the Dust Bowl.
-
If you are a Bosch fan I recommend Michael Connelly's latest Lincoln Lawyer/Bosch book Resurrection Walk.
-
Favorite recent movies:
The Holdovers
The Burial

I'd been confused, but that does make sense if it's two different banks!

Sounds like to do was a great success.....and leftovers are always good.
-
Another overcast day.
Lots of college basketball for entertainment this evening.
-
I am thinking of getting a haircut tomorrow.
DR RON PULLIAM survived his, so I'm guessing I'll be okay.

Nice new avatar from DR RODZINSKI.

I gave that book to Mom, who enjoyed it. she gave it to me and it’s in my to-read stack.

Fun with money today. And by fun, I place added emphasis on the first two letters.
-
Back to Stage Fright.
-
I’m not a big Michael Wilding fan. Surprised Hitchcock used in several movies. Even more surprised Liz Taylor married him.
-
But Marlene singing Cole Porter is perfection, even if the scene was clumsily staged and edited.

I gave more of a description of the book than I usually do because I felt that the blurb should have stressed the coming of age story.

Wow! We've got blurbs in the 'burbs!
-
It disturbs
-
Stage Fright has some very effective moments. Not great Hitchcock, but certainly very entertaining.

Starting Roman Holiday. Because, well, there’s no place like Rome for a holiday.

We made a trip to the airport today and it was very crowded. Lots of people returning home and other flying home.

No groaning.
None from me! That was just funny!

I’d forgotten how good Eddie Albert is in this. Of course, Audrey Hepburn is perfect.
-
It’s really raining hard out there.

We had more than a quarter inch of rain earlier today. Now, it’s pouring.

Oops, I forgot he was in it. Hepburn was always perfect.

Eight pages so far.
-
I had ham sandwiches for food. Couldn't do the sauce today.
-
I did fall asleep for an hour.
-
I'll do four to six more pages before bedtime.
-
I just read the part in Kritzer World where Benjamin plays Littlechap. Congrats to Benjamin!

I have the font on my Kindle set to a size I like, but there was one time where the Kindle had to hyphenate "Littlechap" to the next line down, but it was hyphenated like this:

Starting Bunuel’s Phantom of Liberty. I could have sworn I saw this before, but it seems entirely new to me.
-
Too many one sided basketball games tonight.

Continued writing vibes for MR BK.
-
I have been having to do some work on the theeder website posting information, character lists, etc for the 2024 season - so my writing is in the background today.
Hopefully I will be able to get back to it tomorrow and Friday.
-
Took the advise of several DRs here and thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris this evening.

Good night, friends.

Took the advise of several DRs here and thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris this evening.
A real gem.

I have seen Phantom. Since it’s a series of short scenes, I had forgotten quite a few.

Are we loitering here?
-
Wouldn’t it be better to dawdle on the next page?

Uno mas.

Six!

I guess one of us did not win the lottery.
Wait! What? Everyone else did?

Jane, no people at all at US Bank - ever. BofA - always slow, especially on the first of the month.
I was surprised, however, it was Freddie that actually asked the question. Two different banks does solve the mystery.
If deposits are always that long a process, I would prefer to deposit them by scanning them on my smartphone into my online account with the bank. It takes minutes.
-
I re-watched "Gosford Park" this evening.
What a treasure!!!
-
I’m not a big Michael Wilding fan. Surprised Hitchcock used in several movies. Even more surprised Liz Taylor married him.
He has a sterling turn as Akhnaten in "The Egyptian" and his final scene is quite stunning.

I am far more surprised that she ever married Eddie Fisher!!

Ah. I am guessing he didn't want to deposit the check he cashed first without taking some cash from it before depositiing the remainder.

My boss asked me if I would do him a favor and drive out to the county clerk to “ walk on” a recording
-
The Clerks office is about 50 miles away
-
The day was sunny, the roads were relatively traffic free and there was no line at the recorders office either at security or at the clerks window
-
My business was done by a friendly woman and I was done within about 20 minutes, and headed back with the certified copy which made my boss very happy
-
It was a nice relaxing 2 .5 hours out of the office AND I got an Attaboy which are always nice to have
-
I had a nice visit with WFO after work
-
I stayed home all day long.
Didn't go anywhere, not even the post office.

That is a very large county to have the clerk's office so very far from where you work.

Love it.

Nice new avatar from DR RODZINSKI.
Aw, you guys! Thank you.
-
I still feel like a failure because I can't crack eggs with one hand like the chef in Roman Holiday.
-
Congratulations on your plunge, DR Rodzinski!
And your new avatar is quite spiffy.
I think I didn't thank you yet! So thank you!
-
Rodzinski - Very impressed by your taking part in the freezing water activity!
And also that's a really nice new avatar!
And you, dear boy. Thank you!
-
I stayed home all day long.
Didn't go anywhere, not even the post office.
I didn't until I came to rehearsal for TAO's next show, Poe Nocturne, an evening of Edgar Allan Poe one-act plays adapted from his short stories.

Here's one picture from the tech deck:

And here's one with the damn post that we have to look around (it can't be moved ::) ):

If we do the book Q&A, what early evening would work for everyone? Weekday/weekend
.

The Clerks office is about 50 miles away
That is a very large county to have the clerk's office so very far from where you work.
The geographically largest of Long Island's four counties and the second-largest of New York state's 62 counties, Suffolk County is 86 miles (138 km) in length and 26 miles (42 km) in width at its widest (including water).

-
Good night, all.
-
Fourteen pages - not bad at all. I'm just plowing forth but I may futz with the form of the thing when I'm a little further in.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
And we're barely on it.
-
Barely.
-
Hardly at all.
-
Let's make mincemeat out of page seven.
-
I didn't really watch anything.
-
Aside from the ham sandwiches, much later I had two egg sandwiches. A four sandwich day.
-
Feeling kind of gross now, in a sandwich sort of way.
-
Tomorrow is a hot dog day.
-
And a doo da day.
-
And a Doris Day.
-
And a Dennis Day.
-
It could be a day that the earth stood still or a day of the dolphin.
-
Aside from the ham sandwiches, much later I had two egg sandwiches. A four sandwich day.
A day early question for BK: is an egg sandwich different than an egg salad sandwich? If it is, what then is an egg sandwich?
-
I think HHW is the only place I've heard of an egg sandwich.
-
Egg salad has mayo mixed in there. It’s a cold thing.
-
You put that on a sandwich.
-
Egg sandwich to me would just be fried or scrambled eggs with cheese on a sandwich.
-
But we’ll see what BK sez
-
Kinda miserable day outside all day/night.
-
I didn’t leave the homestead.
-
Kids are still home on holiday break all week.
-
Egg sandwich to me would just be fried or scrambled eggs with cheese on a sandwich.
Ahh...that makes sense.
-
I really like egg salad sandwiches, but it sounds like I'd like the egg sandwich, also.
-
Kids are still home on holiday break all week.
Have a great time!
-
Oh, look! It's Page Eight!! :D
-
The very eighth of pages.
-
Poe one-acts could be fun. Seems like an October thing though.
-
Vixmom’s county has 912 square miles of land.
-
My county has 2,107 square miles of land.
-
San Bernardino County in CA has 20,000 square miles of land.
-
Poe one-acts could be fun. Seems like an October thing though.
It does, but the opportunity presented itself, and as you may know, Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor.
;)
-
And I have put everyone to sleep with such talk.
-
Oh. George has returned. I hope you stay to capture my millstone.
-
Poe one-acts could be fun. Seems like an October thing though.
It does, but the opportunity presented itself, and as you may know, Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor.
;)
Indeed. There may be no wrong time for Poe.
-
1 guest lurks and lingers with us.
-
1 guest, guest for sale. He’s going cheap. Only 7 guineas.
-
Oh dear I must hurry. The end of the day draws near.
-
A milestone must be met.
-
Seven guineas is a fair price. Would probably cost more today.
-
Papua New Guinea is a country.
-
As is Guinea-Bissau.
-
Also just plain Guinea.
-
French Guiana and Guyana.
-
And I have arrived at my millstone.
-
And I have arrived at my millstone.
And here it is:
-
You, sir, are a gem of a man.
-
For documenting my millstone.
-
And for not pointing out that I left out Equatorial Guinea.
-
Could actually get to page 9 if we wanted.
-
If that 1 guest would simply jump in and post.
-
The Post of Amontillado is a fave Poe story.
-
The Telltale Post is another goodie.
-
And with that…
-
The Ninth of Pages!
-
You, sir, are a gem of a man.
Thanks, Rodzinski! ;D
-
Yes, and egg sandwich is a fried egg and cheese - I had mine on a bagel, but it's usually on bread.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
So, what about the Q&A?
