Hi, Iris! How are you?
Hi, John!
Thanks for asking.
I am surviving. 😊
-
George, you and I are tonight’s late night denizens.
-
It’s really cold here, and today is a very important football game here in Baltimore.
The Baltimore Ravens may be on their way to the Super Bowl.
Game is at 4:30 pm today.
-
I don’t follow football.
But the whole town is decorated in purple.
People, buildings, grocery stores, everyone is wearing purple.
Except me. 😊
-
But I hope they win.
Baltimore fans are very loyal and supportive of their teams.
-
Wishing everyone a lovely Saturday! 🌻
-
Singdaw, so pleased that your mom is home!
Sending excellent recovery vibes.
-
Thanks, DR DR Iris!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
.
-
Who
decides these things doesn't love cheese?
-
Good morning, all!
-
Still more panic attacks. I'm grateful my sense of ethics still takes precedence. Mentally, I want to stay in bed and never get out of it again, but I have three children who need me and rely on me.
-
And now... Dino at the piano.
-
Unless he's shucking clams.
-
Or playing clams.
-
DR singdaw, I'm happy your mother is home.
-
Either way, cocktail sauce is in order.
-
Thanks, DR elmore3003.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all.
-
It is 16 degrees, and I have little else to report.
-
It is 24 degrees, and I have no news of any kind, but that won't stop me from posting.
-
Tonight's low is projected to be 15 degrees.
Brrr. And brrr, again.
-
I slept beautifully again.
I make no apologies for it.
I can also not explain the reasons for it.
But sleep is my greatest pleasure these days.
-
Someone tells me it is Saturday, January 20th
How the hell can this year be 20 days old already?
It's just zooming by, and I have accomplished very little.
-
I ate that Reuben-style sammich for supper last night.
I toasted it in my George Foreman grill (my mom's actually, but mine now).
I enjoyed it. Nice change of pace.
It had no Russian dressing on it, however, so it was a bit of a chew...and swallow, although the melted cheeses helped a lot.
-

That's the spirit!
-
It is TWO degrees here......
-
I wonder how DR GINNY's squash turned out? Did I miss her repor?
-
Good news from DR singdaw!
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Unless he's shucking clams.
Speaking of shucking -
Have we discussed here that the Broadway musical SHUCKED will be made into a movie?

-
Finishing the book vibes for MR BK......and hopefully SOTEE will stay away today.

Good morning, all.

Finishing the book vibes for MR BK......and hopefully SOTEE will stay away today.
I’ll second that.
-
But I hope they win.
Baltimore fans are very loyal and supportive of their teams.
What's good for the city you live in is good for you!
(I think)

Saturday morning greetings! 4 degrees here, feels like -10.
-
Dreamed again of being in a video game that was built around 40s classics and I was tied to Elmer’s Tune.
-
It’s 27 here, which is the coldest it’s supposed to get.
-
Someone tells me it is Saturday, January 20th
How the hell can this year be 20 days old already?
It's just zooming by, and I have accomplished very little.
On the bright side: It's a leap year, so we have an extra day this year to accomplish stuff for 2024!
-
I wonder how DR GINNY's squash turned out? Did I miss her repor?
Well, DR JRand, I wouldn’t purposely buy crooked neck yellow squash just to make that casserole, but we ate it. The eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and sour cream helped a lot.
-
Next week promises a lot of days in the 60s and nights in the 50s. Plus lots of rain.
-
TOD:
The Holdovers
I have Past Lives here, which I have heard is wonderful.
-
Dreamed again of being in a video game that was built around 40s classics and I was tied to Elmer’s Tune.
That sounds like it could be fun - or maybe it's hell if you don't like the tune you've got.
-
Speaking of squash:
A friend from college once visited me in Indianapolis for a weekend, and we decided to cook ourselves a splendid meal. I bought and rotisseried a prime rib roast.
He decided to prepare his mom's squash casserole. In addition to yellow squash and onions and some sort of breading (may have been Pepperidge Farm), he also bought a can of Cheddar Cheese soup.
I did not watch the preparation, but the casserole was extraordinary. I later asked for the recipe, but he said he just winged it. To this day, he swears he has never made it again.
I find that difficult to believe given how good it was, and that he had said it was his mom's, but so be it. Some folks just won't share recipes.
If what I have described sounds familiar to you, and if you have such a recipe, would you share it here today?
-
Next week promises a lot of days in the 60s and nights in the 50s. Plus lots of rain.
So that's days in the 60s, nights in the 50s, and in the dream, songs from the 40s.
-
While cleaning out the cookbook/recipe cabinets in the kitchen (my Monday project that still leaves me a bit sore), I did find a couple of recipes for squash casserole that called for cheddar cheese to be added, so I could experiment with those.
-

Whew! Gosh! That seals it, then.

Still more panic attacks. I'm grateful my sense of ethics still takes precedence. Mentally, I want to stay in bed and never get out of it again, but I have three children who need me and rely on me.
It's good that the cats are there to get you out of bed, when you might not want to do that!
-
Most of the recipes for squash casserole that I've been able to find use actual cheese rather than cheddar cheese soup. And most call for Ritz crackers, as well.
-
Have we discussed here that the Broadway musical SHUCKED will be made into a movie?
I had not heard that! I wish them well.
-
They are installing more and more traffic roundabouts in Minnesota.
Most drivers do not appear to understand right-of-way rules in roundabouts.
I predict more accidents.
-
:)
-
DR Ron, several of the squash casserole recipes I found online called for cream of chicken soup. You could probably substitute cheese soup for a different flavor sensation. I ended up using a recipe from my old red and white checked Better Homes and Gardens cookbook.
-
I recently rekindled a great love for tortellini, and while at the store the other day a chicken-filled one caught my eye and I bought it. Had it last night. I don't believe I'd ever had tortellini with any fillings except cheese, but I really liked this. Didn't bother with sauce, just butter, garlic, and herbs. Delicious. Looking forward to finishing the package.

Are we on page 3 yet?
-
Ah, now, page 3!

From DR Singdaw:
Hope your cousin will be OK, DR Jane. How could the nursing home allow visitors to a resident whom they know has Covid?
Thank you. I know, it is shocking.
-
From DR Rodzinski:
Oh, by the way…your friend you just visited has Covid. Absurd!
Yup >:(
-
From DR George:
OMG! :o Why wouldn't anyone tell her BEFORE the darned visit??
Sigh. My cousin is rather upset by it.

If what I have described sounds familiar to you, and if you have such a recipe, would you share it here today?
At a large bank I worked at I would take my fudge to potlucks. It was very popular and I enjoyed making it. I was fine with sharing my recipe, but then someone began taking it to the potlucks and I had to make something else.
Because I like baking it wasn't a big deal, still I thought she should have asked me first.

Like most things, they're very simple once you learn how to use them. They are being added around here more and more.
-
Thanks for the repor DR GINNY.
I am enjoying all of the recipes shared here today.
-
Currently, the city of Tumwater added two roundabouts near me, with a third still being constructed. They will (when complete) make driving a lot easier...in my humble opinion (IMHO in Internet speak).

DR singdaw last week I received a paper package and inside was a pink size Medium hooded sweatshirt that on the front was printed BOSHKALAY BONG BONG.
It was from Daydrian Harding in Wichita KS....and addressed to Daydream Harding at my address.
Also included were a couple of plastic bracelets with the same words and two that read D'Adriyan Harding Santa says stay sober.
So here I am with it.......no way to contact them that I can find.....I hope somebody gets their sweatshirt!

I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamed that for some reason, a visitor leaving my apartment was careless, and Thatch ran out the door. Instead of running out into the hall, because it was a dream, he ran out onto a porch covered in snow. I was not reliant on my walker, and I chased after him, and we were playing in the snowy yard. As I kept trying to catch him, he ran further away and into the street, where a car hit and killed him. It still creeps me out.

This is what I think about when I see roundabout. Of course there are small easy ones which are fine. My first experience was Concord, MA driving from Boston to our new home in Acton. My passenger, the woman we purchased the home from, was directing me. Out of ignorance I was rather calm while she was rather nervous knowing I had never driven in one. Fortunately she was there to tell me which lane to be in and when to turn ;D
-
In reality, the one is Massachusetts was small compared to this.

Roundabouts are a safer alternative to traffic signals and stop signs. The tight circle of a roundabout forces drivers to slow down, and the most severe types of intersection crashes — right-angle, left-turn and head-on collisions — are unlikely. Roundabouts improve traffic flow and are better for the environment.
So sayeth the highway service.
-
And they’re easy.
Look to your left. Anyone coming?
If yes, wait.

I am fine with small ones. It is the larger ones that can be scary. I think that street signs should be extra large so drivers can be sure they are exiting on the correct street.
-
I think all street signs should be larger to make it easier to read them, but especially on roundabouts.

"Futzing and finessing and fettuccine" could be the title of something.

Bruce, don’t rush your writing. This is an important book. Make it complete.

I am not a fan of roundabouts. DC has many of them and I always found them treacherous. In DC, there are many people who don’t know where they’re going — tourists, business travelers, me — and often need to make sudden lane changes. Difficult in heavy traffic. Far more traffic in DC than these roads were intended to carry. In light traffic with drivers familiar with the area, fine.

Far more traffic in DC than these roads were intended to carry. In light traffic with drivers familiar with the area, fine.
They're becoming more prevalent here, and people are getting used to them. Fortunately, the ones that I've been through only have had two lanes. I've never even seen one with three (or more) lanes.

All that and a bag of chips!
Now, you're cooking with gas! ;)

Glynis Johns fans, this is a delight. And Johnny Carson doing an excellent interview.

I'd seen each of their songs from this interview individually, but not the whole segment. That was great.

And is that how to say D. Jamin-Bartlett's name? "DEE JAY-min"? I'd never heard it pronounced before.

Now starting an odd movie called The Outfit. Excellent cast: Robert Duvall, Karen Black, Robert Ryan, Joe Don Baker, Joanna Cassidy, Sheree North and a great many character actors.
That's definitely a great cast.

Tomorrow I have to usher for a nonunion tour of My Fair Lasy, based on Batlett Sher’s staging. Then Bible study. How did I do this stuff before I retired?
Enjoy the ushering, John.

After tomorrow's final performance matinee of Poe Nocturne, I'm ushering for Pink Martini at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. Can't wait for that! ;D

After tonight's show, we had a cast party at pug's house and she made nachos for everyone. Quite delish.
-
There was much eating and much chatting and a good time was had by all!
-
Now, I'm heading home, but I may or may not be home before the changing of the day.
Until later.
-
Certainly not home yet.
-
Certainly not.
-
Traffic must be very heavy.
-
I could use some damn nachos.

New notes are up.
