Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Theda Bara-like and Vamped, and now it is time for you to post until the vamping cows come home.

Last night, we watched Joan Hickson as Miss Marple in Agatha Christie's Nemesis, with the wonderful Margaret Tyzack as a demented lesbian murderer and a wonderful supporting cast. We had watched At Bertram's Hotel the night before. I loved the atmosphere of the hotel and Joan Greenwood had a wonderful turn as Miss Marple's friend, but I found the plot rather silly. Nemesis was a nice return to evil and deceit.

Tonight I’m seeing a movie at the wonderful Bedford Playhouse. That’s always a pleasure. But though I will enjoy it, I do rather wish it were something other than BYE BYE BIRDIE tonight. I have great memories and fondness for that crazy film version, my introduction to the show, but…  oh well, it’ll be fun.

Dancing at the moving picture ball
Some scenario
Great big stars paraded 'round the hall
They were merry, Oh

Handsome Wallace Reid
Stepped out full of speed
And Theda Bara, Was a terror
She "vamped the little lady"
So did Alice Brady;

Douglas Fairbanks shimmied on one hand
Like an acrobat
Mary Pickford did a toe dance grand and

Charlie Chaplin with his feet
Stepped all over poor Blanche Sweet
Dancing at that moving picture ball

A handsome looker
Had a dance
With Mister Zukor

Mister Thomas Ince
Stepped around just like a prince

William Fox
And Jessie Lasky
Both joined in the fun

Quote
I went down to visit my knee-replaced brother.  He seems to be doing okay.  It's been six days since the surgery.

He is in some pain....but he has some medication and recovery time is about six weeks, they tell him.

He declares that he is going to mow my yard next summer because he kept watching me all last year and it inspired him to get his new knees so he could get around as well as I do....

I am glad he is doing as well as expected.  Some pain at this point seems normal.  I've know a couple of people who were in a lot of pain which was not normal.

It is very nice that you inspired him to improve his health.

I just learned that Betty Auman, who was in charge of acquisitions for the Music Division of the Library of Congress, when I met her in 1987, has died. She was a dear friend until our friendship fell apart in 2010 in a disastrous concert and recording debacle of Life Begins at 8:40 and her failure to replace an incompetent conductor. At the moment my emotions are all over the place, remembering both the great times in London and the various concerts at the Library of Congress and the frustrations, betrayals, and ugliness after 2010.

My condolences, Larry.

I think that was largely for the Tonys, as the song Fabulous Feet only seems to come in at the end. I think that kept the show going for a few more months. I always loved that score for Tap Dance Kid. And I got to see the national tour with the great Harold Nicholas as Daddy. One of the thrills of my theater going life. Got to meet him afterwards too.
