My friend Joe Molnar arrived around 5:30 bearing delicious cheeseburgers and fries from Fred, the cafe at 83rd and Amsterdam. Annabelle and Stella loved him and spent the evening climbing all over him. I hadn't seen him since before the pandemic when a small musical theatre clique would meet occasionally at Richard Galgano's apartment on 81st and Columbus. My poor friend Richard died from Covid during the first surge of the plague, but Joeseph and I talked about getting some of the old crew back together the next time we get together.

We had a lovely visit, and Joseph left around 9:45. I was in bed by 10:15, and I had the strangest dreams in which I was working backstage on a television broadcast of The Merry Widow,[/i filled with Nazi propaganda.

Holy crap! DR Laura was correct!

You know, a nicely autographed (in gold leaf, please) copy of The God Bless the USA Bible would reside handsomely next to this favorite Florida souvenir. The denizens this household are not immune to the glories of religious kitsch found in such places as the Indian River Fruit stands or the Magic Castle Gift Shop just outside of Disney World.

Ralph Edwards completed the show by interviewing all of Casey’s friends…but no Casey

There was a clip, I’m not sure if it was still Edwards, but Angie Dickinson was like hell no. They had tricked her that she would be doing an interview of Brian DePalma, so she’s prepared hard for that, and when they tried to surprise her, you can even hear the audio as they try to guilt her into participating and she stands her ground.

I am awake.

Barely, for some reason.

I feel as thought I'd just arisen from bed, but I have been up for at least four and a half hours.

I've done lunch (pork chop, smashed taters, squash casserole), picked up my mail (of NO importance, thankfully), and watched a bit of TV.

It's kind of cool in the house as I've not fiddled with the thermostat which was set last night at 65 degrees.  It's a cloudy, rainy day, and outdoor temps are in mid-60s.

I have had a phone call offering me an audiology appointment (for hearing aids) one week earlier than previously scheduled.  I accepted, but it's still more than a month away (May 7th).

I have a podiatrist appointment April 1 to have another callous reduction.

And for some reason, I have an odd suspicion I have something slated for April 26th, but I cannot remember what.

I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of sleep. I was up for about forty minutes at five, fell asleep and woke up to use the ool then was going to sleep another two hours but the phone rang and it was old pal John Holly, who produced Hit Song, The Musical (one of my favorite chapters in the new book) - he just ordered the book and we gabbed for an hour - great to catch up. He bought an Airsrtream trailer and goes all over the country - settled in Arizona, but still travels four or five months out of the year. I told him to write a book about it.

From the Jewish food group I have learned that rainbow cookies are very Jewish.  I never knew that either.  I think I might have eaten them once or twice, not when I was growing up.

The parade from the synagogue to the Jade Pagoda restaurant was a favorite after-Yom Kippur memory.

:)  We never fasted either.  I have gone to friend's homes to celebrate the fast.

Isn't Chinese food considered a Jewish staple, even if not kosher?

Certainly on Christmas and other holidays where no other restaurants were open. But not for the Orthodox Jews.

5-4-3-2–1 — MUSIC! The show opened, Ralph Edwards came on stage and pronounced: “Casey Stengel, THIS IS YOUR LIFE!” Without missing a beat, Casey (on camera, live) got up from his seat and said: “Oh no it isn’t!” and proceeded to walk off the stage. We immediately went to a commercial!!

Ralph Edwards completed the show by interviewing all of Casey’s friends…but no Casey

Oh, my! :o

That's pretty cool, BK!

According to Wikipedia (and I believe everything I read there), the books were occasionally fictionalized, so novels is apt I thought they were memoirs. But only partially.

Learned a new word from All Creatures: stickybeak. It's a nosy person.
Title: Re: A LOVELY REVIEW
Post by: John G. on March 27, 2024, 04:56:01 PM
Actually, there is another definition:

In Australian and New Zealand slang, a “stickybeak” refers to two related concepts:

An Overly Inquisitive Person: It describes someone who is excessively curious or nosy, often poking their metaphorical “beak” into matters that don’t directly concern them. Imagine a nosey parker who can’t resist prying into other people’s business1.

An Act of Looking or Watching: When someone takes a peek or observes something, especially if it’s not directly relevant to them, they’re having a “stickybeak.” For instance, you might say, “Shall we take a stickybeak at that shop?” or "Have a stickybeak at this floor plan!"1.

Holy crap! DR Laura was correct!

You know, a nicely autographed (in gold leaf, please) copy of The God Bless the USA Bible would reside handsomely next to this favorite Florida souvenir. The denizens this household are not immune to the glories of religious kitsch found in such places as the Indian River Fruit stands or the Magic Castle Gift Shop just outside of Disney World.

;D

If I find one in a garbage can I might consider picking it up with tongs and sending it on,  it I won’t put a cent into that pocket

No, don't. Leave it right there. Please.

singdaw, it's so good you're here!  We're stuck on page 7, and BK doesn't seem to want to pass his millstone on page 7.  You may have heard that he doesn't care for page 7.

Passing a millstone is better than passing a kidney stone. ::)

Well, this is pretty interesting:

Not to get political, but on a happier note (G#):

Judge recommends John Eastman be disbarred in California (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/judge-recommends-john-eastman-disbarred-california-rcna145390)

Eastman was hit with 11 disciplinary charges tied to a strategy aimed at keeping Trump in office after he lost the 2020 presidential election.

Tomorrow night, we're going to run the whole show, hopefully twice.

I don't think we'll get through the whole show twice.

We only have a three hour rehearsal and I don't think the show will be under an hour and a half tomorrow.

Maybe it will by opening (or closing ::) ), but it's not that short of a show when people are just off book.
