Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Simonized, and now it is time for you to post until the Simonized cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FRIVOLITY!
-
Topic of the Day: I was never a specific fan of Paul Simon, or even Simon and Garfunkel (my sister's boyfriend is), but I've enjoyed his and their songs that I've heard over the years. The one Paul Simon album that I own is his Graceland album. I really like that one.

Good morning, friends.
-
Who's still crazy after all these years?
-
The lesser-known Marx brothers routine.
-
.
-
That's too many celebrations on one day.
-
Who decides these things?
-
Simple Simon met a pie man, going to the fair.
-
There's that fair again.
-
It keeps popping up.
-
What's made of leather and sounds like a sneeze?
-
A shoe.

Yes, May the Fourth be with you, blah, blah, blah....

Good morning, all!

I finally had a decent night of sleep for the first time in weeks. I slept from 9:30 to 3:15 or so before I woke. I took two Tylenol and went back to bed. I slept well untill around 5:30 when three needy cats began to pester me for attention and affection.
-
Last night I watched the Enigma Variations ballet again and liked it even better the second time. I cannot warm up to Kenneth Macmillan's ballet to Shostakovich's piano concerto, and Rudolf Nureyev's staging of act three of Glazunov's Raymonda is beautiful but I can take it or leave it.
-
I have no real plans for today. After some light housekeeping, a little vacuuming, I need to dig out a couple of DVDs I would like to watch and put my hands on a piece of music that Amazon tells me I purchased several years ago and I have no memory of.
-
Good morning, all.

Here it is, the last day.
Just a couple of hours to relax this morning.
-
I have no real plans for today. After some light housekeeping, a little vacuuming, I need to dig out a couple of DVDs I would like to watch and put my hands on a piece of music that Amazon tells me I purchased several years ago and I have no memory of.
Well, that is certainly intriguing. :)
I love rediscovering a piece of music I’d completely forgotten I had.

Or a recording. Or anything, really.

I also enjoyed the Paul Simon documentary.
And there is the moment when Simon talks about his mother when she said: "Paul you have a lovely voice.....but Art....Art has the voice of an angel!"
-
I like all of the songs already mentioned and I will add The Only Living Boy In New York.....
-
I had many dreams last night, and most centered on real estate, sort of.
I had "moved" into an apartment and had a few possessions (long missing from my current inventory) I had acquired in my earlier days of adulting on my own.
In the dream, I cleaned the floors which were washable or had to be vacuumed. I asked a friend to give me some advice on what to do with the apartment to make it look good and I got a sneering retort about getting rid of everything I had and starting over.
The next part of the dream was weird: I entered my apartment to find a fully stocked drug store ensconced in the living room. While I was shocked, it occurred to me that I was renting all but 1,000 sq.ft. of the apartment's space and had no say on what would be done with that footage. I woke up then and went to the bathroom.

Oh, no!
-
In the documentary, we are told the story of how Mike Nichols gave Art a job in Catch-22 and kept him on location for a much longer time than originally planned - keeping him from rehearsing and arranging songs for a new S/G album.....and then even afterwards kept Art on the hook promising him parts in other movies.....

I saw Art several years ago when he performed solo at a local venue….he still had the voice of an Angel.

So is Mike Nichols indirectly responsible for their break-up?

DR RON PULLIAM the renovated Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates that while are you satisfied with your life and surroundings now - there is still the urge to simplify.
There a few regrets from the past that don't often come up, but a sharp memory can invoke a moment of thought about the path not taken.
You also at times feel that your health and its complications are taking over your life.
The End.

A second dream followed.
I had bought a very old house. It had been extensively renovated over the years but still retained character of its original design.
As I wandered through the house thinking of what to do with each room, I entered a room that I felt should be much larger than it was. I had not thought about it when first viewing the property, but I could not, for the life of me, figure out what was on the opposite side of one of the walls.
I went outside and walked around the house and found a set of double doors that I knew nothing of. The keys I had did not open the doors. There were windows I could not peer through because there were curtains or something blocking the inside view.
I contacted the agent who sold me the house and learned there were no other keys. She advised me to get a locksmith. I did that.
When the doors were opened, I was amazed and confused. The room was obviously a continuation of the one that had the mystery wall. There was old furniture all over the room, much of it covered as if waiting for better days. The real estate agent was suddenly there with a flashlight and found a newspaper dated 1930. The house had been built in the 1920s, and the suggestion was made that the original owner probably put all the furniture in that side of the room, had the room closed, and planned on coming back at some point. It occurred to me that the owner had probably been impacted by the depression and hoped to rent out the house until better times returned.
The agent suggested I research the house history in the city's "hall of records" and would likely find who had owned the house. It was suggested that there were surely family members who would love to get all that furniture.
My thoughts were that I might also enjoy having all that furniture, because what I could see seemed choice and quite a find.
I woke up. Sigh.

I saw Paul Simon once in concert. Amazing. It was around the time of Rhythm of the Saints. He played everything practically over four hours. The first half was mostly solo stuff with a large band. The second half was stuff he could sing with the group he recorded Graceland with, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
-
I have never seen the Kentucky Derby
I have. Once only. It was fun. Hot day. My horse came in second.

Simon apparently has a place up the road in Wimberley, where part of the documentary was filmed. I need to give the new album Seven Psalms another chance.

Today is the annual Peach Festival in the town of Johnston SC.
Most of town will be closed off to traffic with much of the side streets clogged with parked cars. In years past, even the post office parking was affected. The town is rather small and folks find that there are booths set up all long the town's three blocks (3 count 'em 3).
We have had glorious weather the past couple of weeks, so today is a bit of a disappointment in that it rained buckets overnight, and scattered showers are predicted throughout the day.
Still, the show WILL go on.

Apropos of nothing being discussed:
I was going through youtube this morning seeking out some Puccini performances to enjoy.
Funny thing, though, is that when you get toward the bottom of a page, they often throw in other selections you may enjoy.
I have no idea what this had to do with Puccini, but I watched it and was moved quite a bit by it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aZna0-kEaQ
This happened at the Royal Albert Hall during a BBC Proms scheduled concert. It was when the Queen died, and how it was handled.
The piece that followed God Save the Queen is my favorite piece of classical music: Movement Nine of Elgar's "Enigma Variations", also known as "Nimrod".

That seems quite an impressive production!!!
Did you and your wife happen to see Baz Luhrmann's production in San Francisco at the Curran before it went to NYC? They had three different casts of leads, but I only saw one.
