Topic of the Day:
The Boy Friend
Tommy
These are the only Ken Russell movies that I've seen all the way through. ::)
-
I can remember watching parts of Valentino when it was on HBO when I was in high school and I had a little TV in my bedroom. ;) But I've never seen the whole movie.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I'm all caught up.
-
:)
-
I am having a hard time getting myself moving this morning. I slept okay, and I can't say I'm tired; I'm just moving slower than usual.
-
I've got several chores I need to tackle this morning, but it will be a rather quiet day.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Join the moving slowly club. I slept okay, too, but my lower back is killing me. I do need to be thinking about a new mattress. Thank gawd this is basically a ME day, right here in Danbury. And the weather is finally gorgeous, but the whole next several days will be good so outdoor activities can wait till the morrow.

Ken Russell:
The Devils, first and foremost
Altered States
Gothic
The Boy Friend (I don't know the original show)
I'm blanking on others at the moment. I actually think I haven't seen any of the composer films! Haven't seen Valentino, either, but now I want to.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
.
Oh, boy, there's a National S'mores Day?
-
Where's my tracking number?
-
Yes, I have always thought Carroll Baker was the Mrs. Garfein in the song in BYE BYE BIRDIE even though her daughter is named Blanche.
Her son Herschel composed an opera version of ELMER GANTRY and has won a Grammy for something or other....
-
Good morning, all.
-
Very good, uninterrupted night of sleep. Dreams had something to do with finding clues in word search puzzles. I got so good at it, I had to help those having a hard time finding words harder than MOM and DAD.
-
TOD:
The Boy Friend
Valentino
Altered States
Tommy
The Devils
The Music Lovers

I dreamed that I was in the company cafeteria wearing PJs and a bathrobe.
-
Dmitri Shostakovich. And his cat.
-
I dreamed that I was in the company cafeteria wearing PJs and a bathrobe.
That's probably OK, as long as you were having breakfast after working late the night before.

I haven’t seen a lot of Ken Russell. The excess always seems too, well, excessive. I did like:
Women in Love
The Boyfriend
Tommy
Parts of Lair of the White Worm, which seemed perfectly suited to excess.
-
I loved Pauline Kael’s review of Lizstomania, where she imagined the personal life of the set builder who had to create the enormous penis Roger Daltry danced on. It was better than the movie.
-
I wonder if Pauline Kael ever ate kale?
-
TOD
Women in Love
The Boy Friend
The Devils
The Music Lovers
The Rainbow
The Lair of the White Worm
Salome's Last Dancer
I saw Valentino, but I remember next to nothing about it beyond the Nureyev-Dowell tango. I remember nothing over-the-top involving a night in jail.
-
I wonder if Pauline Kael ever ate kale?
Or if Gene Shalit ate shallots?
-
Was Tom Swift swift?
-
Did Tom Cruise ever cruise?
-
Was Benny Goodman a good man?
-
Who put the ape in apricots?
-
Is Tom Hardy hardy?
-
Was Tom Swift swift?
I don't know, but Taylor is.
-
Did Ken Russell ever rustle?
-
Is Claybourne Elder elder?
-
Did Stevie Nicks wear nickers?
-
Did Harrison Ford climb a fjord?
-
Was Jane Fonda fond of a Honda?
-
Do I hear a Walz? There won't be Trump/Pence.
-
Did Bob Costas cost us?
-
Did Woody Allen go all in?
-
Did Susan Lucci's poochie wear Gucci?
-
Nice tribute to Richard M. Sherman in the latest issue of Musicals magazine.
-
"And not only will the actors play their own instruments, but the SET will be made out of LEGOS!"
-
I'm well-traveled. :)
-
TOD:
Women in Love
The Boy Friend
Altered States
Savage Messiah
The Music Lovers
Billion Dollar Brain
I saw The Rainbow, Tommy, Lair of the White Worm and The Devils. Interesting but not satisfying for me.
Wanted to see, but didn't, Mahler, Lizstomania, and Valentino.
-
Confession: no Ken Russell film has pleased me. Though they look good.
-
Great day in the morning!!
It's Saturday!! I got up at 10:30 a.m.
Slug-a-bed!!

~~~CONTINUED MULTIPLE MODERN MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for the likes o' BK!!!!
-
I went to see his Crimes of Passion (with Anthony Perkins) when it came out in 1984, but I think I wasn't terribly thrilled with it and I remember hardly anything of it now, including where I saw it. I think I have it here, though, and I do have an ancient DVD of Lair of the White Worm, which - it's very possible that I've never watched it straight through at all, ever.
BRING BACK DAGUERROTYPES!
-
And here it is! I will screen-shoot it right away.
36,000, though - and this is the first one of mine I've caught in many thousands of posts. I just don't watch for these things.
-
DR John I hope you enjoy your day at the winery.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR ChasSmith on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!
-
And to celebrate, here's a white chocolate-blackberry-raspberry concoction.
-
I don't know why this little 45KB file is so big, but...
-
DR Jane - did you have both eyes done? Or is there still one to go?
-
DR George I hope you are very pleased with your new table and chairs.
-
:)
;D
-
This "green" outhouse is wind-powered.
-
I'm well-traveled. :)
I thought I had a similar photo but I can't find it.
-
I don't know why this little 45KB file is so big, but...
Congrats!
-
DR Jane - did you have both eyes done? Or is there still one to go?
The second eye will be done on Thursday. Now that I know what to expect the process will be easier.
-
While I am looking forward to having my eyes in sync, I will miss my wonderful ability to see close objects.
-
And to celebrate, here's a white chocolate-blackberry-raspberry concoction.
That looks almost good enough to eat.
-
I don't know why this little 45KB file is so big, but...
Congratulations, Chas, on your new millstone.
And more belated congratulations for the past millstones we've missed.
-
This "green" outhouse is wind-powered.
LOL!
-
DR Jane - did you have both eyes done? Or is there still one to go?
The second eye will be done on Thursday. Now that I know what to expect the process will be easier.
Getting the HHW vibes ready for the second eye!
-
Congrats to DR CHAS SMITH on his new millstone.
-
It is sunny and clear and 71 degrees here....there is a nice breeze blowing. I wouldn't cry if it was like this until fall.....with maybe a little rain now and then between midnight and 5 a.m.
I have put some cube steaks in the oven with chopped green peppers, fresh garden tomatoes from across the street, bacon bits, and sweet corn kernels on top!
It should be ready in an hour or so.
Thanks for letting us know, DR Jrand73, so we can time our arrival.
We'll bring the jello salad.
A new page is nigh.
-
Well, almost nigh.
-
Nigh enough.
PAGE FOUR
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Yea!
-
Flowers for Algernon's first edition is going for up to 1K these days.
-
Room is set up and shortly I'll turn on the air and hope it's working so we can cool down the house a bit. I'll turn it off for the stumble-through.
-
You can see the play next month for $15.
-
DR singdaw I'll leave the front door open.
It actually turned out much better than I imagined. I shall enjoy eating it all up over the next few days.
-
Temps have soared to 75 degrees.
-
Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.
I wish we had purchased a copy years ago.
Good afternoon.
I am having a hard time getting myself moving this morning. I slept okay, and I can't say I'm tired; I'm just moving slower than usual.
Same here.
-
I didn't get out for my walk until 6 a.m., which is very late in August.
-
Then my daughter and I celebrated the Feast of St. Lawrence, a thing we created in DR Kerry's honor. Sort of.
-
Sort of -lol. It sounds like a fun way to celebrate together.
-
TOD: Tommy (also the only Ken Russell film I've seen)
-
I called someone today and he turned his speaker phone on when he answered. Then he was shouting as an Olympic ceremony was blasting on the tv.
-
I think even if I didn't wear hearing aids it would have been impossible for me to hear him, however, since all of that sound was blasting from my phone directly into my hearing aids it was doubly painful.
-
Stumble-through went really well - great kids, lots of heart, laughs, and FUN. I taught them all the word JEF and its meaning. Songs ran approximately seventy minutes and my commentary will add another twenty, so ninety minutes, which is a bit longer than usual but still fine.
-
I don't know why he even answered to phone, especially knowing it wasn't anything important since I was returning his call ::)
-
Ordered a Firehouse Eyetalian sub.
-
Commentary and show order printed out.
-
Now, I can eat and relax.
-
I'll cool the house down another two degrees, then turn it off.
-
I just will.
-
Who's gonna stop me?
-
Someone let a fly in - saw it several times during the stumble-through but not since - maybe it got lucky and flew out during the many exits of people. Let's hope so.
-
How can we still be on page four.
-
Shouldn't we already be on page five?
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
Great day in the vineyard. We had more people than ever. Even the repeats enjoyed themselves.
Then I stopped at an Italian place for carpaccio and pizza.
With the drive, I am exhausted.
Hooray! Glad it was a success!
I was in a local production of The Boy Friend in 1990, and it's a delightful pastiche of 1920s musicals. It's very much in the "girl-meets-boy, girl-loses-boy, girl-gets-boy" mold and it was a lot of fun to be in!
National S'Mores Day?? I must have S'Mores! I have the marshmallows and the chocolate.
I guess I need to get some Graham crackers post haste! :D
They gave me graham crackers after my surgery-yum. The hospital in Ashland also did that.
I am glad you had an enjoyable day, DR John G.
Good night, friends.
-
Up to the 12th lecture in Bach and the High Baroque. I'm really enjoying this series.
-
I’m too tired to watch a movie.
-
I did watch a half-hour interview with Peter Gennaro on YouTube. Someone named Bruce Kimmel left a post castigating the interviewer for constantly interrupting and talking over Gennaro. It’s true.
-
I am not quite ready for bed.
-
But I am ready to move on from this page.
-
A few more posts.
-
That’s all.
-
Onward!
-
Six!
-
Sandwich was good.
-
Been trying to watch something but not having much luck.
-
My other new obsession is the self-centered Mr Milo, his sister Poppy, and dog Beckham:
And Badger.Dot's Big Gay Cat Agenda mug:
Both of these are great! :D
-
Chas, in other news - You're one post away from a 36,000-post millstone!
Did the momentous moment get captured??
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR ChasSmith on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!
Super Ditto!! ;D
-
And to celebrate, here's a white chocolate-blackberry-raspberry concoction.
(http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=7685.0;attach=22987)
Oh, my goodness! That looks quite scrumptious! :)
-
I don't know why this little 45KB file is so big, but...
Congrats, ChasSmith!!
-
DR George I hope you are very pleased with your new table and chairs.
Thanks, Jane. He brought them today, and they're in my garage for now.
-
Everything is made of solid wood, not pressed particleboard or plywood. I don't know how old the set it, but old enough that they were made to last.
-
Why are we still on the dreaded page six?
-
And not very far.
-
Not even halfway.
-
Not very sporting.
-
Stuck it a rut on our butt.
-
We need to liven up the jernt.
-
Perhaps I should tell the tale of The Randy Vicar and the Coat Hanger. That one's a corker.
-
I know a few New Yorker corkers.
-
And yet, we're STILL on page six.
-
I'm dancing as fast as I can.
-
Which is not fast enough.
-
Not really.
-
Speed is of the essence.
-
George has left the room to eat a burrito.
-
I still really do like my original round table, so I think I'll keep it for a while. I can take off, and apart, the legs and hang it all in my garage until I make a decision.
-
I've only eaten the sandwich and I'm hungry and should have gotten a snack.
-
But I didn't.
-
I did not eat a snack and now my tummy is both rumbling and grumbling.
-
Rumble, rumble, rumble.
-
Grumble, grumble, grumble.
-
Tumble, tumble, tumble.
-
I just saw this tweet on X about this woman from England who had TRUMP tattooed on her forehead! :o
-
WTH??
-
Mumble, mumble, mumble.
-
Humble, humble, humble.
-
That's enough of that, except I might add that I do not care for page seven.
-
Notes are ready to post.
-
Six minutes from now.
-
I really have to try and be in bed by 12:30.
-
Yes.
-
For sure.
-
Is there a page eight in our future?
-
Doubtful.
-
But we try.
-
We must always try.
-
Trying is the thing.
-
Hope is the thing with feathers.
-
Tomorrow, the Olympia chapter of PFLAG is having their annual picnic.
-
My sister, who is on their board, asked if I would help set up.
-
I said that I would, so I need to be there by 11:30 a.m., which is, thankfully, not early at all. :)
-
Gratuitous Post #200!
-
Today was a fairly sedate day.
-
I went to lunch at Meconi's Italian Subs and had my usual Combo with pepperoni added, Cosmo-style (toasted).
-
They did something different today that made it extra tasty!
-
I don't know if it was smearing the mayo on extra messily or what, but it was really good.
-
Tomorrow's PFLAG picnic (https://pflag-olympia.org/events/) is to be a potluck, but since I'm helping, I don't have to bring anything.
-
But, I have some individually wrapped mini Reese's peanut butter cups that I can bring.
-
It's something. ::)
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I might have some other snacky bits that haven't passed their best-by date, so if I can find something, I'll bring that, too.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
All that and page eight, too.
-
Who could ask for anything more?
-
Who could ask for anything more?
How about this??
