Well, you've read the notes, the notes had lowlights and highlights, and now it is time for you to post until the highlighted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEATIFIC!
-
Must be a VERY big burrito. :)
-
Tacos hit the spot.
-
Probably four hundred calories.
-
First preview of Gypsy was apparently sloppy - people love and dislike Audra - of course, the Audra freaks LOVE her. The sets are apparently ugly. Everyone loves Danny B. But for all this talk about fixing the orchestrations so they match what was originally done on B'way, apparently there are changes of keys along with key changes that were never there, new choreography (no Robbins) which has necessitated new dance music - I don't get it. Maybe elmore can enlighten and/or illuminate.

From yesterday: I was able to watch that Facebook video that Jane posted, once I got on my desktop computer. It was very sweet!
-
After that, I got a notice that I needed to update the driver for Bluetooth on my computer, so I was able to do that. I had to restart my computer for it to take effect, and the restart is taking a long time! :o
-
Topic of the Day: I checked out from the library the 2024 studio cast recording to Warriors (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Warriors-/50310).
-
I listened to a few tracks in my car. The library CD doesn't have a booklet, but if the release was actually supposed to include a booklet, them I'm missing a lot of information. :-\
-
Good morning.
-
Why aren't I in bed?
-
Oh yeah, had to digest some tacos. Guess I'll try now.
-
Good morning, all!
-
My computer now appears to be running as it should except for the missing emails, which I may never recover. In short, I am excactly where I was when I upgraded to Sequoia on Tuesday.
-
I did sleep well last night, so that must be indicative of something.

As to Gypsy, the orchestration restoration/reconstruction had been going on for some time since the Tyne Daly production. At that time, Dale Kugel, the late librarian of Tams-Witmark, now Concord Theatricals, made trips up to Columbia to examine the original scores for two reasons: restore the harp part and look over the original scoree for the overture, before he created a new edition for the concert library rental.
DR singdaw provided the link to a Playbill article by Jay Diaz about "restoring the original materials for the Lyric Stage, but Diaz didn't mention that the "original" guitar part - which we believe was created for the 1973 Angela Lansbury London production and not the 1959 Broadway production - is full of errors sicne it was created from the published vocal score, which has many errors, and not from the orchestra scores.
Joshie did a lot of work on the orchestrations for the City Center Encores! production, but there was neither time nor money for a full-scale overhaul, something that the new George Wolfe-Audra McDonald revival provided the stimulus for the Jule Styne estate to fund. The revival has pushed this "original orchestrations" claim in its publicity, but the project I was involved with was never a part of the production. Joshie and Jason have provided the new scores to the music direcvtor, Andy Einhorn, but, no, you're not going to hear all of the 1959 Broadwat orchestrations in this revival for several reasons:
1. New dance music, new scewne change music.
2. The orchestra for the revival uses the original brass, reed, and percussion, but a total of 3 celli and, I think, 5 violins; we think the original had 8 violins and the scores show there were 4 celli.
-
As to key changes, the full scores show that Merman's numbers were orchestrated in one key and then lowered by 1/2 to 1 step. I had heard for years that Mermanract was that she would sing in one key for the cast recording andening night, but then her keys would be lowered, and the full scores and piblished vocal score seem to support this story.
Every Mama Rose since Merman may have asked for key transpositions, and I had heard that Audra's ght be adjusted. If this involves on a step or two up or down, that's standard performance practice and only affects the orchestrations if something then goes out of the player's instr. When I worked on One Touch of Venus around 1984, all the leads except for Paula Lawrence sang in the original keys. Paula created her role in 1943, and she was a wonderful lady, but 40 years later her voice had lowered, and I had to transpose her two songs four tones lower. I finally had to orchestrate new scores for her since nothjing was in any instrumental range that Kurt Weill had written.
-
That's the story I'm sticking to. As to this new revival of Gypsy, I have no urge to see it except to see my dear friend Danny Burstein. I am not a fan of George Wolfe's direction - I hated his Angels in America, a play I really admire - and ever since it was announced, I've considered Audra miscast - she's a nice lady, but I am not a big fan - and for the sake of this production, I'd like to be proven wrong.

Good morning, all.

I get today off, which is wonderful even though there will be work going on later, again, soon.
Most importantly, I get this evening off. That will be bliss.
-
Thank you, DR Elmore, for furthering our Gypsy score education.

And thank you, DR Rodzinski, for furthering our witch-marrying-almost education. Most enjoyable.

I think I fell asleep last night to the end of Black Narcissus and the beginning of something else Powell & Pressburger on TCM.
-
Well, we have our first snow. It started in the wee hours and is just a light wet dusting which has already stopped but there could be a bit more over the next couple of hours. It's not sticking to the driveway or roads, thank the goodness.

Falling asleep during Black Narcissus seems like a good way to produce hallucinatory dreams.

I never thought about money launderting. It makes sense, except I know people who love art that I simply do not consider art.

I am so anxious to start working on Drat! The Cat! but that's not until January for casting. Once that process begins then I'll be doing that every day from week one of February. Normally, I don't like that long a rehearsal period, but this is all new territory and I want the time for everyone to get off book early so that we're in run-throughs as early as possible so that by tech week we're a well-oiled machine. THAT is the goal.
-
And once that opens, if everything works out, I'll go right into rehearsing this little musical thing.
-
Nor mine.
Never, your entire life, not just today?

I'll probably also do a Kritzerland show in February, April, and June for sure. Then if everything works out the way it should, I'll be directing the show I've been mentoring for a couple of years now. Plus writing two books.

Never a fan of the show, even though I enjoyed some of the performers, mostly in the years subsequent to Mr. Chase's departure. LOL, I'll take the goat in a tire over this any day.
-
The neighbor child just came over to ask for some cupcake liners.
-
I know most of us here can't donate blood. I do it for all of us because I can.
It is appreciated that you can and do.
-
Then she came to ask for a mixing bowl.
-
Leonard is a good boy around the Christmas tree. Which is a good thing, because it's very small. He'd knock it right over. Joshie was good, too.
Sweet.
-
And a mixer.
-
And a spatula
-
And sprinkles.
-
It went well today. It's been a long time since I have fainted. Four minutes and 24 seconds.
You fainted and continued to donate-wow!
-
And they had pretzels!
Good pretzels too.
-
DR Laura I'm surprised she didn't ask for all of the ingredients to make the cupcakes ;D
-
I wonder if I'll get a cupcake.
-
No new MATLOCK or ELSBETH for two weeks.
-
Feh!
-
It went well today. It's been a long time since I have fainted. Four minutes and 24 seconds.
You fainted and continued to donate-wow!
That IS amazing!
-
I wonder if I'll get a cupcake.
I was thinking the same thing.
-
No new MATLOCK or ELSBETH for two weeks.
We need to catch up on MATLOCK. Unfortunately we were disappointed in ELSBETH and did not continue watching it. Maybe it improved?
-
We did finish watching season 2 of The Diplomat and are looking forward to season 3.
-
I wonder if I'll get a cupcake.
Did she need an oven?
-
LOL
-
Starting Made in England. I already want to watch all of my Powell and Pressburger movies.
-
George, give us your repor on Warriors. There are two booklets, one for each disc. There’s a wonderful Viennese waltz on didc one, Call Me Mercy, that I will be dancing to next month.
-
This is what's going on over at DR elmore3003's...
-
I had an uneventful day.
-
There's nothing to tell.
-
Next week will be a short work week.
-
Blessed be.
-
One more.

Since they have SmashBurger, why not Pressburger?
-
It went well today. It's been a long time since I have fainted. Four minutes and 24 seconds.
You fainted and continued to donate-wow!
I have fainted twice. And in a most dramatic fashion, I might add.
-
It's not uncommon. They see it often. They know what to do.
-
It's not uncommon. They see it often. They know what to do.
Good for them. And us.
-
DR Laura, did they provide you with a fainting couch, at least?
-

Oh my.

It's not uncommon. They see it often. They know what to do.
Do they stop the blood draw?
-
We did finish watching season 2 of The Diplomat and are looking forward to season 3.
Tremendous season 2 ending for The Diplomat, I thought.
-
I faint afterwards. They get to keep the blood.
-
I faint afterwards. They get to keep the blood.
DR Laura, did they provide you with a fainting couch, at least?
They had to practically pick me up off the floor to put me on it once.
-
One of my early donations was in honor of DR Danise. And another one was on the morning TCB passed.
And one for Vixdad.
-
So .... ya'll be careful!
-
I am going to make a confession.
-
For the first time, I wanted to make a condition attached on whom I did NOT want to receive my donation.
-
But I did not.
-
Understandable.
-
For the first time, I wanted to make a condition attached on whom I did NOT want to receive my donation.
It was the sound designer at the Gammage, wasn't it? :)
-
There are no cupcakes here.
-
LOL!
That would be Frank Lloyd Wright.
-
No cupcakes.
-
No pupcakes.
-
No joy in Mudville.
-
No mud in Joyville.
-
Nothing but nonsensical posts.
-
But a post is a post.
-
That's what I hear tell.
-
Page Seven doesn't seem so bad when we're on Page Nine!
-
One can't discriminate.

One more.

By hook or by crook.

Page seven is in the rearview mirror.

And it isn't as close as it appears.

And it isn't as close as it appears.
LOL!

WE have been invited to TWO Thanksgiving meals on Thursday.
-
So I'm really going to try to eat lightly at both.
-
Because one does not want to explode.
-
It isn't polite.
-
It isn't done in mixed company.
-
It's considered gauche.
-
So I'm really going to try to eat lightly at both.
If it were Christmas, you could be Holly Eatlightly.
-
Good night, friends.
-
We did finish watching season 2 of The Diplomat and are looking forward to season 3.
Tremendous season 2 ending for The Diplomat, I thought.
We agree.
-
I faint afterwards. They get to keep the blood.
That's good. As a result of previously fainting, do you stay seated longer and have your snack before getting up?
-
For the first time, I wanted to make a condition attached on whom I did NOT want to receive my donation.
;D
-
WE have been invited to TWO Thanksgiving meals on Thursday.
That's nice. We haven't been invited to any this year.
-
So I'm really going to try to eat lightly at both.
Oh my gosh, you are going to both of them?
-
Because one does not want to explode.
One definately does not want to explode ;D
-
Keith got Wordle in four.
-
Oh my gosh, you are going to both of them?
One is mid morning, and the other later afternoon, so yes. But cautiously, as I said.
-
Vibes you manage to be good.
-
'night
-
Good night, Jane

I’ve finished Made in England. I think if I knew more about Powell’s connection to Scorsese earlier, I would have liked the scenes more where Scorsese goes into the influence Powell had on his own movies. I was a little irritated by too much Scorsese without knowing more of the connection. Made sense at the end.
-
Good evening!
-
Wordle: 5/6
-
Congrats on the Gypsy Playbill credit, DR elmore!
-
Just posting up a storm.

Post, post, post.

Thank you! I was working on my 2nd gallon pin when everything went kaflooey health wise

It went well today. It's been a long time since I have fainted. Four minutes and 24 seconds.
It took 4 minutes and 25 seconds to donate or was that how long since you last fainted?
-
One of my early donations was in honor of DR Danise. And another one was on the morning TCB passed.
And one for Vixdad.
Thank you, that means a great deal to me
-
For the first time, I wanted to make a condition attached on whom I did NOT want to receive my donation.
Understandable

Good night, friends.

And others.

By hook or by crook.
I choose crook.

Oh, I thought you were askin’ my preference.

It went well today. It's been a long time since I have fainted. Four minutes and 24 seconds.

Or was it how long she fainted for?

JRand, I believe I read somewhere that Banana, What a Crazy Fruit! was a premium given out by one of the banana concerns.
The only other artist to record for Teenerama Records? Micky Calin aka Michael Callan, B’Way’s original Riff!
-
Jerome Robbins felt he was "too good-looking" for the part. Robbins told him that he had to "be more hostile" and need to "concentrate on something to hate." Callan "concentrated on Jerry Robbins."
Lol. So sayeth Wiki.

Saturday Night is one of the stupidest, poorly directed and written movies ever. And yet, some "critics" rave about it. Others found it as bad as I did.
-
Then I watched a movie that comes out next Friday entitled September 5 about the Munich terrorism attack, but all told from the POV of ABC Sports, who covered it - it almost all takes place in the control booth. Terrific performance throughout by everyone, tautly directed and exactly the opposite of Saturday Night in depicting a real-life event.
-
This sounds promising. It also sounds like the extras on the DVD.

I read enough to keep me away.

That doesn't sound like it should be right!

Too bad!
-
Just applied to start getting Social Security.
-
Been listening to Respighi. Lovely stuff.
-
Thinking of calling it a day.
-
Good night, all.
-
What is this eating lightly that DR singdaw is talking about?
I don't understand the concept.
-
Robbie Avila is still out for the St. Louis Billikins.
But at least he is wearing his uniform on the bench so we can see his legs.
-
So I tuned to FILMRISE and watched the Annette Funicello run on Season Six of Make Room For Daddy.
It's not quite as funny as I remembered it to be....although still interesting.
-
In the series her boyfriend is played by Richard Tyler who played the young boy in The Bells Of St. Mary who put on boxing gloves and gave a sharp roundhouse punch to Ingrid Bergman.....
And then became a chiropractor specializing in treating California professional bodybuilders.....just for the hell of it.

DR LAURA I only remember fainting once.....when a horse came running toward me....I think I was about nine years old.....
-
A Dozen Pages....
The title of my new short novel.
-
Watching a bit of a 2021 movie based on a novel by John Seales. So far, I hate it for reasons I'll explain in the damn notes.
-
Gratuitous Post #333!!! ;D

DR JohnG, I love Princess Honeybelle's cooking! Turn on the sound.

I'll probably also do a Kritzerland show in February, April, and June for sure. Then if everything works out the way it should, I'll be directing the show I've been mentoring for a couple of years now. Plus writing two books.
BK, how are new Kritzerland releases coming? Anything in the pipeline? Any potential releases?
-
Yes, something is in the pipeline for December.
-
Notes are written.
-
Lots of movie talk.
-
Not a bad day.
-
Having some clam chowder now.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Where'd George go?
-
Burrito time?
-
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme time?
-
Miller Time?
-
Having some oyster crackers now.
-
Why are oyster crackers called oyster crackers when they're given with clam chowder? Shouldn't they be called clam crackers?
-
Page twelve is pretty damn nifty and spiffy, too.

Thanksgiving happens very late this year.
-
I wonder why.
-
Usually it would have been this week.
-
But it's next week.
-
Not this week.
-
The holiday people are messing with our minds.
-
I have discovered that I have the Roku Channel that has a lot of Free programming on it - and other stuff for rich people like Rachel Maddow - but that I can indeed watch Robbie Avila and St Louis play basketball tonight at 10:30 p.m. if I am still awake.
I have a Roku TV. I need to check this out!
-
Ah, midnight.
-
Ah, Wilderness.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
All that and page thirteen. Amazing.
