Title: THE BOB AND JULE NOTES
Post by: bk on January 27, 2025, 12:27:33 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes posited that people are posters and posters are people, as is Soylent Green, and now it is time for you to post until the posting cows come home.

Curse you, BK! I loved the Posting song lyrics, but so did Annabelle. She started singing the song while I was preparing their breakfast,. and now she's now sitting on the computer table next to me and singing the song over and over and over and over and . . .

I can't remember if I was still working for the New York State Theatre Institute (NYSTI) after I discovered HHW in 2004, but between 1994 and 2004, I did two shows for them, A Tale of Cinderella while got a recording and DVD and a NY State tour, The Snow Queen, and Magna Carta. Around 2007 or so, the company folded amidst a lot of nasty allegations that hurt friends of mine who worked with the Institute.

My friend Patricia di Benedetto Snyder, who founded the company and ran it until its demise, has written a lavish history, jampacked with wonderful photos of productions and posters, and she sent me a copy this week. It's huge, it weighs a ton, and I'm having a great time just browsing though it. When I have more time in the next few weeks, I will actually read it.

Not a great night of sleep. I dreamt I was a set designer creating large cutout pieces based on an artist friend’s work. She does paintings that look like a stoned Dr. Seuss. I forget what the show was, but it had her vision of the Alamo and of the Tower of the Americas (San Antonio’s version of the Space Needle), which she makes look like a tortilla warmer on a stick.

The Pulliam people here:

My last post was about a steak dinner at which I overindulged and was feeling overstuffed.  That feeling lasted well up to bedtime, but I slept well overnight into Sunday.

Yesterday, however, was a day of penance...and more penance...

I don't know what it was that I ate that set off the rumbling, gurgling, series of events that hounded me throughout the day, but I can only say, it wasn't pretty.

Sadly, it ain't over yet.

I learned only recently that Blood Sweat and Tears played Woodstock. Several bands that refused to be filmed for the movie got lost in that part of history. But there is footage of some of their set on YouTube. They were a bit more polished than other acts,  maybe a bit square playing their AM radio hits.

At the top of the page, under your photo, there's a blue bar. In the middle of the bar there's a tab that says "My Messages." There should be a little "1" by it, indicating you have a message.

I tried to watch the Carol Lynley version of HARLOW last night on YouTube TV.  I have tried before......I got a bit further this time.....but couldn't finish it.

Not Carol's fault......and she certainly looks better in the movie than in any of the stills that were taken afterwards.

I also watched Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde - which was mostly a wasted opportunity.

Ancient history.....theeder wise.

We'd submitted our "Last Starfighter" musical to a quite excellent theater that would be a plum venue for getting the show attention - and where we even had a contact. Five months had passed so I assumed it was a "no" - but we found out a few days ago they hadn't even started to read possibilities for next season.  The script had not been opened yet.

Five months had passed so I assumed it was a "no" - but we found out a few days ago they hadn't even started to read possibilities for next season.  The script had not been opened yet.

Wow!  Good luck they do your show.

Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation by Andrea Wulf

It’s more interesting than it sounds, especially since I’ve been to Washington’s Mount Vernon, Jefferson’s Monticello, and Madison’s Montpelier.  My favorite chapter is the one about the creation of Washington, DC, and the White House.

And on pages 115-116 there’s a truly frightening discussion of the Founders’ skepticism about the sustainability of the Republic.

Oh, no!

He is 96 and living in New York.

My friend Ronnie who now lives somewhere in the New England area loves Charles Strouse's music as much as I loved Sondheim's. :)

I haven't seen it since it came out so I'll have to search for the scene he was referencing tonight.

So at the break I mentioned (relative to a topic a couple days ago) that I didn't know Young Frankenstein well, but I thought Blazing Saddles had one of the best theme songs ever.

At which point our stage manager (plus a chorister who was listening in) belted out a wonderful, in tune, completely lyric-perfect version of the theme. I only have about half the words memorized myself.

How did I manage to get myself in charge of a book discussion for one group this coming Saturday morning and the refreshment committee for another group next Monday afternoon?

Is it a good book?

Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation by Andrea Wulf

It’s more interesting than it sounds, especially since I’ve been to Washington’s Mount Vernon, Jefferson’s Monticello, and Madison’s Montpelier.  My favorite chapter is the one about the creation of Washington, DC, and the White House.

And on pages 115-116 there’s a truly frightening discussion of the Founders’ skepticism about the sustainability of the Republic.

I would be afraid to discuss anything that could be political right now.  It was fine when our group were all on the same page.  I am sure a few of the newer members are on that other page, the one we don't like.

Yes, DR Jane, I’m going to keep the discussion focused on the botany and gardening and tourism.  I’ve only shared pages 115-116 with Richard.

Oh my, that isn't much sharing ;D

Yellowface

West with Giraffes

DR George, I hope everything concerning your ma's legs comes out well.

Thanks, Larry.  She called me this morning and wanted me to come over earlier than I was planning so that I could feed her cat Henry because she hasn't been able to get out of bed.  Lying still causes no pain at all.

It must be very bad if she couldn't get up for Henry, but then she knew she could call you.  More vibes for your mother.

Thanks, Jane.  My friend Shelly (who used to work at the same hospital that my mom worked at) called there and found out that she's still there and in a hall in the ER.  She's comfortable (for the most part) and sleeping.  They did some tests including a CAT scan, but the results from that haven't come in yet.  That's the latest.

I'm glad Shelly could get some feedback for you.

I came over and she was able to call her doctor's office because the pain had increased.  They said to call 911 so that they could evaluate her.  She did, and the EMTs came very quickly and brought her to whichever ER they took her to, and now I'm just waiting to hear from someone...anyone. :-\

Oh my.  She would get to the car for you to drive her there.  This sounds very scary.

Yup...but fortunately not so scary now. :)

Good.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day -

Hilary Landau's and my father Naftali Landau was a Holocaust survivor who lived to 100-1/2, passing away (from Covid) in February 2021. He had written his memories of the Holocaust by hand, planning at the time to form them into a book.

We had his notes typed up, and our dear Cousin Miriam Litvak arranged to put Dad's narrative online, in his own words

hoping to add his voice to the cry of "Never again," whether or not we're actually able to create the book Dad had once planned.

I've started the Michael Fassbinder version of Macbeth. Very violent and very highly sexed. There's a seeming bit of inconsistency. Before Macbeth kills Duncan, he's victorious in presumably bloody battle. Then he has to be coaxed into killing Duncan. After that, he slaughters at will, as if there's nothing to it. Why is he so fussy about killing Duncan?
