BK, it's great that that really nice woman was able to get your car insurance premium, like Dolly, back to where it belongs!

What a terrible story in the Notes about your car insurance, BK, and what that first representative on the phone put you through.

Last nightr was a very good night of sleep because Thatch is the best companion to sleep with. Much as I love Annabelle, she's the best on cold nights because she loves to cuddle for warmth. Otherwise, meh . . .

Listening to a great book about Alexander von Humbolt called The Invention of Nature. Sadly my mind got distracted when Napoleon’s wife was mentioned. Now I can’t get Cole Porter’s Josephine out of my head.

Plus other good points as well.

It's a lethargic morning here, not helped by nagging backaches and a reminder of the "light" sciatic pain from the weekend.

I'm just so glad that I don't have to go out anywhere today, for anything. Tomorrow, too. And boy, do I need these remaining three days of the week for working on music and just a couple of other things.

Shadow of a Doubt was incredible last night. I hadn't seen it in - easily - OVER two decades, but everyone in it has such indelible images that it's as though I've seen every actor many times over in other films or TV since then ... and it just ain't so. I was up late researching several of the more minor characters - not that anyone is truly minor in a masterpiece like this.

The younger sister, played by Edna May Wonacott, looks for all the world like an up and coming Patricia Hitchcock, who was a few years older but Pat's first appearance in a Hitchcock film wasn't until Stage Fright in 1950. Edna May only had a few uncredited bit parts after that, and that was it for her.

The girlfriend of Teresa Wright - not the one who has a more significant presence when she turns up working in a seedy night spot, but the quieter one with the underbite - was played by Estelle Jewell. This was Estelle Jewell's only film. She died in 1992.

It's sad that almost nothing of 1943 Santa Rosa remains. The tracks and train station, yes, and the family's house. But I'm always struck by how lively even small-town downtowns were depicted in those years. I want to step back into that world where it seems half the town is out walking and shopping and eating and doing things and using the library till it closes at 9 pm. And it's not just fiction. I remember that from the late 1950s and early 1960s in places we lived. But I digress...

For what it's worth, today is Wednesday in this part of the CSRA!

We are under a stay-inside advisory because of poor air quality through tomorrow morning.

Why?  You may well ask.

It is because today is a "controlled burn" day.  This is environmentally sound, they say, because we are quite rural and it is necessary for many reasons.

Thus far, none of the controlled burns have ever gotten out of hand.

I finally got my sleep pants on and got to the door and it was two Mormon elders.  I didn't even let them speak - I just told them they got a 76 year old man out of the shower at risk of life and limb and they could just move on.

My doc recommended bloodwork. You know, check the oil. So I got the blood drawn at Quest. Labs were done. All reports good. Insurance bill comes for $729. Seems a bit much. I call Cindy at customer care back in my old home state of Delaware. She agrees that this is a bit off. The provider’s billing co messed up. So I received a nice new statement from insurance in the mail. For $729. I call and get Cindy again, believe it or not. She says, oh, this is just a statement to let you know it’s going to be adjusted still. Don’t worry. Why am I still worried?

Well, Alessio is a small role and being funny is pretty much the whole point. He doesn't get an aria or any vocal fireworks like the other principals, so it would be hard for anyone to really judge his singing from the recitative. Maybe the writer thought that "was funny" wasn't enough and wanted to add some placeholder language?

I finally got my sleep pants on and got to the door and it was two Mormon elders.  I didn't even let them speak - I just told them they got a 76 year old man out of the shower at risk of life and limb and they could just move on.

My sister has a sign posted on her door:

WE DO NOT CONDUCT RELIGION OR BUSINESS AT OUR DOOR

The Brigadoon re-writer is Scottish? Big deal. What’s next? Someone from Rome rewriting the Forum book?

You would think someone would have learned after the grisly mess made of Gigi. I woould like to know what's been done to the Brigadoon book.

A more in-depth exploration of what’s under a kilt.

My new doctor is very nice.  He is from Nigeria.  He looks like Wayne Brady from Let's Make A Deal.....

He also gave me a pneumonia vaccine shot since my last one was almost two years ago.

We shall how I feel as the afternoon goes on.

Texas records first death from measles outbreak (https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/texas-records-first-death-from-measles-outbreak/ar-AA1zNL7l?ocid=TobArticle):
Quote
Feb. 25 (UPI) -- The first measles death in the United States in a decade was announced Wednesday in Texas as an outbreak in that state's panhandle spread to New Mexico and other portions of the country, health officials said.

The death was of an unvaccinated school-aged child in Lubbock, Texas, Zack Holbrooks, public health director of the South Plains Health District, said, according to USA Today. The child was hospitalized at the time of death.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was the first measles death in the United States since 2015. So far, 124 people have been confirmed with the disease during the outbreak and 18 have been hospitalized.

There was a case of measles at my kids' elementary school, right after they left there and started junior high. I was a volunteer at the school, still. The school nurse said everyone who came on campus had to prove they were up to date on immunizations. That even included the guy who filled the faculty room coke machine.

I explained this to my physician's receptionist. They had me come in and gave me the shot right away. They didn't even bill me for it.

For a few years after that, the junior high school nurse didn't have to keep nagging parents about immunizations. The kids were caught up from elementary school.

Wow, things sure have changed :(  Were you vaccinated when you were young?  I had measles before the vaccination was available.  That was nice of your doctor not to charge you.

I read the comments under a Reuter's report on the measles outbreak.  One person said she will be traveling to Texas on vacation and her doctor ordered a titer to determine if she still has antibodies against it.  She didn't say if she had measles or was vaccinated.

I thought the outbreak was in a close knit community making it not all that close to you.  I'll have to read about that again because the town certainly is close enough to you.

Were you vaccinated as a child?  If so, you might want to titer.

There's real pathos in the scene where Norma returns to the Paramount lot. But it's just as much about the people who truly love her and mob her as it is about Norma's ego. In fact you only see her feather rising above the throng. The musical is only about a deranged woman.

Back from rehearsal - lots of fun. I think sometimes the cast gets taken aback when I get very loud with the musical director, as well as very impatient - the truth is, when I'm trying to stage something and the music keeps changing, I DO get impatient and from where I'm sitting in the audience and the MD being all the way upstage - I have to practically yell to be heard. So, at the end of the rehearsal I said clearly to the cast, "I love Jerry Sternbach." And explained my impatience.

Strength in numbers, baby, and now we're on the page that shall not be named and yet is named.

I also wondered what relation we all were to one another

Sorry for your loss, DR vixmom. Your mother's first cousin is your first cousin once removed. Her daughters are your second cousins.

Here's a cousin chart but I'm not sure how helpful it is:

I like to think of it as "who are the siblings" and count from there. If your parent and their parent are siblings, you're first cousins. If your grandparent and their grandparent are siblings, you're second cousins. If your parent and their grandparent are siblings, you're first cousins (because someone's parent is a sibling) once removed (because the other is in a generation one off from that parent).

I'm not sure if that helps either, but with genealogy I've had a lot of practice.

And now for something completely different.  Riki Lindhome is formerly one half of the comedy duo Garfunkel and Oats and I just came across a song that she released in December:

So Long Farewell (A Breakup Anthem for Baroness Schraeder) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELSx0Kq8xZs)

It has "language," so if you offend easily, don't watch it, but otherwise it's really funny! ;D
