And that was really cool about meeting Dan Siretta, BK.  According to his Internet Broadway Database listing (https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/dan-siretta-4950), he was in several well known shows before becoming a choreographer.

Faithful Thatch was with me most of the night. Stella stopped by some time between 11:00 and 3:00, and Annabelle abandoned the cat tree sometime after my 4:30 bathroom break to cuddle for a bit.

Friday at last.  At least, it is here in the CSRA!

And it's the last day of February.

According to Wikipedia:

The Roman month Februarius was named after the Latin term februum, which means "purification", via the purification ritual Februa held on February 15 (full moon) in the old lunar Roman calendar. January and February were the last two months to be added to the Roman calendar, since the Romans originally considered winter a monthless period of the year. They were added by Numa Pompilius about 713 BC. February remained the last month of the calendar year until the time of the decemvirs (c. 450 BC), when it became the second month. At certain times February was truncated to 23 or 24 days, and a 27-day intercalary month, Intercalaris, was occasionally inserted immediately after February to realign the year with the seasons.

February observances in Ancient Rome included Amburbium (precise date unknown), Sementivae (February 2), Februa (February 13–15), Lupercalia (February 13–15), Parentalia (February 13–22), Quirinalia (February 17), Feralia (February 21), Caristia (February 22), Terminalia (February 23), Regifugium (February 24), and Agonium Martiale (February 27). These days do not correspond to the modern Gregorian calendar.

Under the reforms that instituted the Julian calendar, Intercalaris was abolished, leap years occurred regularly every fourth year, and in leap years February gained a 29th day. Thereafter, it remained the second month of the calendar year, meaning the order that months are displayed (January, February, March, ..., December) within a year-at-a-glance calendar. Even during the Middle Ages, when the numbered Anno Domini year began on March 25 or December 25, the second month was February whenever all twelve months were displayed in order. The Gregorian calendar reforms made slight changes to the system for determining which years were leap years, but also contained a 29-day February.

Wikipedia also features a paragraph on February about the different ways the word is pronounced, being accepting of them because of the confusion caused by two r's being so close together in between two vowels.

I have always been a "feb-you-erry" kind of guy, but some do say "feb-roo-erry".  And that is fine, too.

They make a nod to the differences in the British and American ways of saying the whole word, with we Yanks ending the word with emphasis on the "erry" at the ending and Brits not doing so.

Today begins a real Hell Month of rehearsals and shows and other goodies. Hello, Dolly! orchestra reading this evening at 6pm, The Little Mermaid sitzprobe tomorrow morning at 9am, then seeing a matinee and talkback of Sunday in the Park With George, then driving an hour at dawn's crack on Sunday to play a church service, start working on SpongeBob during the afternoon, and maybe - just maybe - get to relax and watch the Oscars. Then a full week of Mermaid evenings with a couple of SpongeBob afternoons. I'm sure there's more, so stay tuned.

I had a lab visit with the VA yesterday in preparation for a quarterly visit with my doctor next week.

While in Aiken, I decided to treat myself to a Panera "spicy Tuscan" sammich.   Quite good, as it turns out. It's one of three they are doing for a limited time.  I had seen the TV commercial a few times and found myself intrigued.  There is a Panera less than two minutes away from the VA clinic, so it was not a big effort to go there.

Afterward, I stopped at The Fresh Market and treated myself to several goodies, including their freshly ground peanut butter (a spiritual experience), a supreme pizza, a pound of chicken wings, a half pound of roasted Brussels sprouts, some corn pudding and a loaf of sourdough bread.

I had planned on going to Sam's Club, but I was mindful that yesterday was "cubed steak Thursday" at the (don't-be-a-square-eat-at) The Triangle.  So I came home, got my lunch there, and had a two-hour nap after lunch.

My get-up-and-go doesn't last as long as it usedta...

We grew up saying "Feb-you-erry", but at some point I questioned whether some pronunciation closer to the spelling was called for. I kind of fudged it until I eventually came to know the movie Holiday Inn in which Bing is a walking lesson in how to pronounce it as it's spelled. I've sinced heard it pronounced "Feb-roo-erry" in other things, but it took years for it to become common for me.

Well, my day today (today only) just got slightly less frantic.

And may I just say:  PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS.  Thank you.

The Hello, Dolly! orch rehearsal tonight is cancelled, which I wouldn't have known if I hadn't dashed off a quick note asking which entrance to use at the venue. The email that went out with that update had either a wrong email address for me or none at all, which I suspect was the case because I was a late hire.

The other thing I wouldn't have known (from the same errant email) is that the TRANSPOSITIONS are in the Google folder. This, after the same IDIOT had told me days ago that they weren't using them, everything would be in the original keys. Which I love. And I loved playing through them yesterday. It was a breath of fresh air. Because:  I hate the transpositions. Of course they're necessary. I still hate them. And now all this extra work because of them, integrating them into my books, transferring markings, etc., after thinking I am ALL DONE with the prep work.

The one good thing is that I now have the rest of the day to prepare for tomorrow, which has the greater challenges anyway.

LOL I like that part.  It is poached eggs I'm not crazy about, still this looks very tempting.

Post by: George on February 28, 2025, 02:44:53 PM

Yikes! :o Good thing you sent the note!  I don't think I would've been so thoughtful. ::)
