Was very surprised to find the soundtrack to Presence on YouTube - grabbed it instantly. Short, but really good.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Well, the east coast team is moving slowly this morning. I slept in and thought I'd be on page 2 when I finally posted.
-
Those reviews upset me because I had wanted to see Drat! The Cat! and now I really, really, really wanna see Drat! The Cat!
-
I have absotively, posilutely no news this morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Same here, re the reviews and wanting to see it!

And, remarkably...
Same here, re having absotively, posilutely no news this morning.

Life is busier than HELL this week. And I think we all know how busy HELL can get.
-
I must pay some ugly bills, run out for some cat food and maybe a little of the human kind, come back to work on recital music for a voice lesson tomorrow, and then get ready for the final dress rehearsal for SpongeBob.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good night of sleep. Don’t feel like waking up this morning.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Went to bed around 10:00PM. Couldn't fall asleep until sometime after 2:30AM.

Ugh.

I hear you, Singdaw.
-
Good morning.

Congrats on that fabulous review you quoted in the Notes, BK!
-
Sounds like the story of where vixmom has been is a fun one! Can't wait to hear it.

Went to the getting place and things were gotten - so I am now back home. I don't have any laundry to do - but I could if I did.

Such wonderful reviews.
In looking around the internet, I discovered something I did not know - Ira Levin wrote the comedy Critic's Choice.....I liked the movie much more when I was a young kid....but it did have Lucy IN COLOR.
-
TOD: Skip's gourmet Mac and cheese, which is a lot classier than it sounds, remains a real favorite after all these years.
From restaurants, the Brooklyn Diner's Rigatoni Alfredo with Chicken is something of a marvel.
And assuming Chinese noodle dishes can be referred to as pasta, Chow Fun from Shun Lee (near Lincoln Center) is magnificent, though a very wee bit pricy. Likewise, the Pork dumplings from our nearby Ollie's Restaurant on 42nd Street near 9th Avenue.
-
I like Mac & Cheese and chicken alfredo - but not at the same time. :D
-
I bought another box of chicken taquitos....interesting treat on the side.
Saturday night I am going to a party that has turned into a chili fest. I'm not making chili, but I thought I make take the taquitos and a side dish for the chili slurpers.
-
DR Michael I enjoyed reading about your posts regarding the show and your great 5th row seats.

I have one thing to say.
I've now played through my first two dress rehearsals of SpongeBob, and I have yet to pick up one shred of an iota or a glimmer of an idea of what it's about.
Okay, my back is to the stage, so no visual eye candy to entertain and inform. They have a lovely set, and from what I hear, these damned middle-schoolers have it DOWN. But I still don't know what's going on.
Gee, maybe I should go read a synopsis or something. What a radical idea.
-
Leaving soon for the invited final dress rehearsal. As we are wont to say today, WOO HOO. :)
-
Break a leg, Chas and company!

We're back from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and resting up before dinner with a local music notation buddy and then seeing Cécile McLorin Salvant at Carnegie Hall.

Yesterday's pre-show activity was lunch at Russ & Daughters Cafe, followed by a tour at the Tenement Museum.

My paternal great-grandparents lived in the building that is now the Tenement Museum's office back in 1890. Our tour was in the neighboring building.

Congratulations to BK on the continued rave reviews!

Two more lovely reviews.
"NoHo Arts review
Drat! The Cat! is a wonderfully nostalgic romp, full of rousing songs and brilliant performances!
Set at the turn of the 20th century in New York, the story revolves around New York high society and a series of wildly ambitious and very public jewelry thefts by a notorious cat burglar who leaves a signature “cat” card in place of everything they steal.
The chief of police retires and the major is desperate for someone to lead the investigation into the masterful “Cat” who seems to run circles around anyone who tries to stop them. The old chief’s son, out to make a name for himself, is given two weeks to make an arrest. However, as the investigation unfolds, he finds himself falling in love with the beautiful daughter of the richest man in the city…who just happens to be…yes, you guessed it!
It’s a fun story heavily populated with hilarious characters and roof-raising musical numbers. The valiant folks at the Group Rep give it their all and sing their collective hearts out, and the result is a brilliantly authentic and fun-filled production.
The supporting cast is, as always, wonderful. But I have to give high praise to the two leads, Sydney DeMaria (Alice Van Guilder) and Alec Reusch (Bob Purefoy). They are utterly sublime in their performances and the chemistry between them is palpable. Drat! The Cat!is written by Ira Levin, whose magical career is almost unrivalled in its variety, from Rosemary’s Baby, to The Boys From Brazil! Drat! The Cat! is his one foray into musical theatre and it is quite the ride, I can tell you!
Bravo to all at Group Rep for the all-singing all-dancing staging of this unforgettable American musical! Well worth seeing and don’t we all need something wonderful to distract us all from absolutely everything right now!!"

And another from some site I've never heard of.
"DRAT! THE CAT! Review by Joe Mosqueda/glamgical.com
https://glamgical.com/musical-review-drat-the-cat/
There's a cat lady in the play. No, not that kind of lady. This one likes to steal diamonds for fun. To make it worse, the cop who is supposed to catch her, falls head over heels for her. He's the softie and she's the tough cookie. It's so bad that he ends up handcuffed, not the other way around. Not a good thing for the New York Police Department.
It seems as if the play was brought to this side of the country by a turtle. Sixty years later, Drat! The Cat! has finally arrived on the West Coast. The original play premiered on Broadway in 1965. It starred Lesley Ann Warren and Elliot Gould, who was married to Barbara Streisand at the time. And now, The Group Rep is staging this fun musical at the Lonny Chapman Theatre for a one month run.
This new production features two sensational rising stars: Sydney DeMaria as Alice Van Guilder, the audacious catgirl, and Alec Reusch as Bob Purefoy, the naive cop falling madly in love. With a fantastic supporting cast, an excellent band directed by Gerald Sternbach, and a dynamic choreography by Cheryl Baxter, Director Bruce Kimmel stages a vibrant performance that infuses new life to this hidden gem.
Encouraged by his dying father (Lloyd Pedersen), police officer Bob Purefoy is tasked with finding the thief who has been stealing the diamonds of New York's high society in the 1890s. Bob is committed to finding the burglar. But he is no match to the cunning Alice, a woman ahead of her time. She wants to be a career woman and get diamonds in her own way, without the help of any man. To achieve that and hide her identity, she uses a catgirl costume, striking at posh events and stealing the diamonds without leaving traces behind. When visiting Alice's parents to arrange the police operation to find and capture the diamond burglar, Bob meets Alice, unaware that she is the burglar. As they talk, she touches him, and it becomes love at first touch. Poor Bob is hooked and his tribulations begin.
One of the best decisions by The Group Rep is the casting of the protagonists. The mischievous characteristics of Alice Van Guilder are vivaciously played by DeMaria, who acts with such naturality that her leading performance shapes the narrative of the play and heightens the audience engagement, something that only truly committed thespians can do. DeMaria's soprano voice, movement, and acting makes this catgirl a rich and exciting character to watch. She shows off her captivating voice in "Wild and Reckless" and "I Like Him", her two solo music numbers.
As for Reusch, a tenor, he's fascinating with his rendition of "She Touched Me", the song made famous by Barbara Streisand. Reusch is excellent at portraying Bob Purefoy's conflicting spirit, fighting the dichotomy between law enforcement and uncontrollable infatuation. His awkwardness and naiveness make his character highly likeable and relatable. Reusch and DeMaria develop a convincing chemistry on stage, adding an aura of romanticism and playfulness.
The connection with the play is not new to Kimmel. In 1997, he produced a new version of the play's score and he interacted with Playwright Ira Levin and Composer Milton Schafer. Unfortunately, Levin and Schafer are no longer around to see this new production. But this is a special commitment by Kimmel, and he is now able to stage the play at the Lonny Chapman Theatre.
To enhance the production even more, Costume Designer Shon Le Blanc uses an impressive array of period costumes that offer an attractive visual element that shows the careful attention to detail, which is always a demonstration of the level of commitment by the production team.
This is a rare opportunity to see the talent of Ira Levin as a musicals writer. Combined with the fine musical taste of Milton Schafer, Drat! The Cat! is a fantastic display of dance, comedy, and music.

I used the time to finally finish How Sondheim Can Change Your Life. I didn’t always agree with the author, but he had good cases for his opinions. He doesn’t have a chapter on Anyone Can Whistle, yet his comments on the first act closer of Sweeney Todd parallel the act one close of the earlier musical.

Power off again. And during the stirring Remember My Forgotten Man from Golddiggers of 1933!

Bruce, congrats on the continued excellent reviews.

BK, congrats as the great reviews keep rolling in!

Wouldn't it be nice if maybe as word of mouth builds, the likes of the original DRAT! THE CAT! stars might wind up showing up and taking photos with the cast. Do they live in L.A.?

Morgan Brittany. What a doll.
I remember her being revealed as Vivian Leigh in The Scarlett O’Hara War.
When I looked this up to confirm, French Wikipedia told me that she also played Leigh in Gable and Lombard. Fascinating.

Congrats on the great reviews, BK! Looking forward to seeing the show!
-
Thanks for the congrats on yesterday's Wordle, DRs Jane and George!

How many actors can you think of who played the same non-fictional character in unrelated (non-sequel) films?
-
Maybe Rich Little or an impressionist like that?
-
Aujourd’hui was lovely here as the end draws nigh.
Took a morning tour of hidden concourses around the Louvre. These shopping galleries date back to the 1840s, and still have amazing little artisanal shops and restaurants within. We finished at the Palais Royale, and a look at Colette’s apartment. Then a delightful lunch at a place called Bambini’s.
-
Then we walked over to the Eiffel Tower as we had an appointment to climb up to Level 2. Having had a bad experience with heights in Tokyo, I was not looking forward to this. I did not get dizzy this time but I found the stairs a fright, and mostly sat in a snack area while the fam explored. I begged off of the walk to Level 2, and the walk back down to earth was even worse than the walk up. Nevertheless, the kids had fun, and I am happy to be back on earth.

So sorry to hear your Eiffel Tower experience, Rodzinski.
But the trip is sounding mostly fabulous otherwise!

Keith got Wordle in three.
-
Thanks Fred. It wasn’t harrowing or anything, I’m just at the age I don’t need the discomfort.
-
Jane, not very crowded. In general, it has been easy to get around. Versailles had a couple crowded rooms. We’ll see how the Louvre is tomorrow. Got a guide to help maybe get us through the madness.
-
Ok maybe it was a *little* harrowing. I don’t like stairs where I can see through them to the ground.

I am enjoying our guided tour of Paris courtesy of DR RODZINSKI!

The power was on when I left for dance class. We’ll see if it’s on when I get home.

I look out the window and see people still up there at midnight. Maybe we should’ve gone up at night. But we couldn’t get tix.

San Antonio is not a city where people know how to drive in the rain. That said, traffic was surprisingly not too slow tonight.

Wish I could share pix more easily on here like olden times.

Ok maybe it was a *little* harrowing. I don’t like stairs where I can see through them to the ground.
Sounds like my reaction to flying in a glass-bottom helicopter, and we could see Chicago and environs beneath us. I did that once in the early 1990s, decided never to do that again.
-
We are on the 6th floor of a walk up. That may be the only thing keeping me from a 10-lbs weight gain.

Ooh, that would be tough. The Tour Eiffel has now a glass floor you can walk on. I can’t even watch other people walk on that.

Fingers crossed.

Hello!
-
My days have been full
-
On Friday my friends Kerry from England and Lori from Florida flew into NYC.
-
I took the train in right after work and arrived first , and checked into our hotel
-
Then Kerry arrived and she and I went to a Mom’s Diner for dinner
-
Lori showed up around midnight and after a nice catch-up we all went to sleep
-
Saturday morning we went down to Flippers for the Japanese soufflé pancakes
-
Then we headed up to the Cloisters where we spent a lovely few hours exploring the rooms and admiring the artworks
-
On Friday my friends Kerry from England and Lori from Florida flew into NYC.
Wonderful.
-
I'll have to finish reading about your special time with your friends tomorrow.
-
Then we headed back to midtown to Dallas BBQ for dinner
-
'night
-
After dinner it was off to Roosevelt Island via the tram where we enjoyed the views from the 18th floor Panorama Room
-
Sunday morning we traveled out to Brooklyn and met a musician friend and his son for breakfast
-
Then we met up with three other friends to go thrifting at a huge vintage thrift shop
-
Afterwards we went to the bone museum, a very interesting place full of skeletons, skulls and a wall of spines
-
Then we headed over to the newish Williamsburg Veselka location
-
We were a bit disappointed as it was not as good as the one in the East Village
-
In fact I ended up sending my paprikash back and had some perogi instead
-
Then the other three headed back to their homes and we three went back to our hotel to freshen up
-
Then we ubered out to a ridge wood where we met our musician friend again ( this time sans son) at a club where a friend of his was performing
-
We finally headed back to the hotel and bed
-
I planned to get up at 6 and take the subway back to Penn, but due to a mistake in setting my alarm it never went off
-
I woke to use the necessary and seeing it was 623 dressed like the wind, grabbed my bags and snuck out without waking the others
-
The Uber I called arrived within one minute and as I entered Penn the LIRR flashed the track # for my train
-
So I was able to get back in time for work
-
I woke to use the necessary and seeing it was 623 dressed like the wind, grabbed my bags and snuck out without waking the others
Wow! The energy of a twenty-something!
-
After worjpk I stopped for a visit with WFO and finally headed home to Vixdad and SLEEP
-
So I was able to get back in time for work
Such great timing!
-
While we were sleeping Sunday night two of Kerry’s friends from the UK arrived
-
On Tuesday I left work a little early and met Kerry and the Brits at Lilly’s Victorian Establishment for dinner
-
Lobster ravioli and crème brûlée for after
-
Then we walked over to the Signature theatre to see Curse of the Starving Class
-
We had front row center seats , which in this theatre meant our knees touched the stage
-
I hadn’t seen your post beforehand, Elmore, so I was quite surprised to find myself less than a foot away from a completely starkers Cooper Hoffman
-
Instead of a lamb there was a full grown sheep on stage
-
Who was very well behaved
-
Calista Flockhart and Christian Slater, played the parents and Cooper Hoffman and Stella Marcus were the children. We quite enjoyed the show
-
Afterwards we ended up meeting Christian and Cooper in the lobby
-
All in all it was a very whirlwind few days
-
Lobster ravioli and crème brûlée for after
Gimme x 2!
-
Afterwards we ended up meeting Christian and Cooper in the lobby
Nice.
-
Cécile McLorin Salvant was wonderful tonight. She did a program of her desert-island ballads with orchestral arrangements by Darcy James Argue played by The Knights. Chris Thile guested on a few numbers.
-
Home from dancing. The power is on. Hoo and ray!
-
Dinner with my music notation buddy was great fun. He and a colleague did the copying for the charts used at tonight's concert.
-
We each got to meet each other's spouses which made for a fine time.
-
Not quite as whirlwind as vixmom but still a lot of fun.
-
Tomorrow we visit with my wife's aunt, then we see Love Life.
-
So enjoying living vicariously through DRs who actually do things.
-
Unlike me.
-
Who doesn't.
-
Do things, that is.
-
I'm going to start collecting highlighters.
-
Mark my words!
-
Hello Rupert, my old friend.
-
:)
-
Mark my words!
LOL!
-
Congratulations to BK and co on the wonderful reviews, I wish I could see the show
-
I think you have enough energy to fly there yourself, DR vixmom. Without a plane.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
PS - wonder if this lamp was the inspiration for BK's show poster?
-
PS - wonder if this lamp was the inspiration for BK's show poster?
Could be. Either way, it’s beautiful.
-
Howdy, Rupert!
-
Watching an oldie called The Day the General Died. William Frawley has a bit part singing, “I’ll be glad when you’re dead, you rascal, you.”
-
Good night, all.
-
Keith got Wordle in three.
Very nice!

Ooh, that would be tough. The Tour Eiffel has now a glass floor you can walk on. I can’t even watch other people walk on that.
The fairly recently remodeled observation deck at the Space Needle in Seattle has glass floors and walls! :o
-
I haven't been up there since the remodel, but I know people who will now never go up again. I'd like to...someday.
-
But definitely not a glass-bottom helicopter.

Cute! I wonder if that's an actual piece music on the piano.

Here's another Drat review:
Julio Martinez:
"The Group Rep is offering the West Coast Premiere of the Ira Levin (book and lyrics) and Milton Schafer (music) 1965 musical, that is set in turn-of-the-19thcentury New York. “Drat! The Cat” did not fare well on Broadway in ’65, but Group Rep’s production, directed by Bruce Kimmel, with a keen observance of the Victorian style and manners of the 1890s, offers a charming journey back to the slapstick comedy of the Keystone Cops, haughty society matrons, greedy bankers, a hapless young cop and the lady he loves. The opening Overture sets the tone for the whole show beautifully executed by choreographer Cheryl Baxter, who introduces the locals, surrounded by a bevy of bumbling cops, while The Cat gleefully robs the townsfolk at will. Aiding the proceedings is Music Director/Pianist Gerald Sternbach and a first-rate five-piece pit band. At the center of this tale are Bob (Alec Reusch), a naive young cop who has been assigned to capture The Cat, and Alice (Sydney DeMaria), a society ingénue, who leads a double life. Their budding but slowly developing relationship is encapsulated by Bob in the first act ballad, “She Touched Me.” The seemingly ambivalent Alice finally responds in the second act with “I Like Him.” Another plus are the supporting performances of Lloyd Pedersen and Constance Mellors as Alice’s disapproving parents, Lucius and Matilda Van Guilder. April Audia is also a delight as Bob’s working-class Irish mother, Kate Purefoy. And Hisato Masuyama is perfectly cast as the always disdainfully superior Butler.
Drat! The Cat! will run on The Group Rep Theatre’s Main Stage (First Floor) through April 27. For tickets and information www.thegrouprep.com and (818) 763-5990. The Group Rep Theatre venue is located at 10900 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood 91601.:

Had a turkey sandwich earlier, and now having a Cantina Bowl from Taco Bell - not bad at all.
-
Peaceful day, otherwise.
-
Enter page eight!
-
Afterwards we ended up meeting Christian and Cooper in the lobby
Really cool!
-
Cécile McLorin Salvant was wonderful tonight. She did a program of her desert-island ballads with orchestral arrangements by Darcy James Argue played by The Knights. Chris Thile guested on a few numbers.
Glad you enjoyed your evening, Michael!
-
So enjoying living vicariously through DRs who actually do things.
Super Ditto!!

I haven't had the Cantina Bowl from Taco Bell (yet), but today I had lunch with my friend Shelly and we made homemade taco bowls (but we called them taco boats ;) ).

Here's what we got:

This is from the side:

It was all quite delish!

The seemingly ambivalent Alice finally responds in the second act with “I Like Him.”
SPOILER ALERT, people!

Greetings from tomorrow. A bit grey out this morning as we take Lil Rodzette to meet Mona Lisa, about whom she is obsessed.
-
This is because a contestant on her favorite TV show, Is it Cake?, made a Mona Lisa cake.
-
Last day here and we shall be sad to go.
-
One great review after another for Drat!

New notes are up.

Up are new notes.

I've seen them.

I've read them.

I wrote them.

They are giddy with prose.

And I don't care who knows it.

Where the HELL is page nine already?
-
Surely close.

Closer than ever.

Starting here, starting now.
