Well, you've read the notes, the notes served sherbet with Schubert, and now it is time for you to post until the Schubertian cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEAMISH!

And a Very Happy (24th?? :o ) birthday to (former?) DR Sandra, daughter of DR Laura! :)
-
We miss the wit of former dear reader Sandra and wish Mother would convince her to come say hello.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy birthday, Sandra!
-
Wow, but it’s early.
-
Must get ready for work.
-
In a rare move, Wordle in 2.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm trying to bring a dream or two into focus, with no luck thus far.
-
It was a weird night of sleep. I slept "okay", but I must have awakened almost hourly. Just weird. Anyhoo, I must get myself into gear. It's back to Foggy Bottom today. Or Bikini Beach. Or... ?
-
Happy birthday, Sandra!
-
vixmom, that was quite a lot of Easter work in your posts last night.
I bet the people you do it for really appreciate you!
-
Good morning, all!
-
My computer is acting up. I was up too late trying to solve the problem and restore things. I got to bed around 11:30, two hours at least past my usual bedtime.
-
Around 9:00, I noticed that all my icons on my desktop had become maybe two times larger than usual. After tinkering with Mac System Settings for two hours, I sorta got them back to original size, but one has vanished, and no internal search recovered it. So, today I muist find my last external hard drive and retrieve it.
-
I don't think the cats were happy that breakfast was an hour late this morning.
-
I would honestly be scared to think too hard on what kind of clothes I wore as a kid. :)
But BK mentioned jeans. It's very possible I never had jeans as a kid. I can't bring back any memory of having any kind of denim. I don't think I even bought a pair of jeans for myself until I was in my twenties, post-college, living in L.A.
-
DR vixmom, your Easter wore me out.
-
I had several strange dreams. I remember part of one in which I was in a doctor's office where I was prodded and poked in numerous and unpleasant ways during an examination.
-
I have a trip to the basement and mailboxes, a search for that hard drive, and two scores from Joe Hearson to print out. I'd rather go back to bed.
-
DR vixmom, your Easter wore me out.
That was beyond superhuman.
Is she even a real person?
And not, say, some kind of ... ROBOT? Or ANDROID? Or some other AI thing??
-
The day I've been looking forward to and doing research for (after getting scads of offers from health insurance companies) arrived, the - possibly only? - good point I can see so far of turning 65 next month: I got on the phone and computer and signed up for Medicare yesterday; it was receiving several emails and entering a few code numbers and a couple of "electronic signatures" - but in the scheme of things, it was a relatively straightforward process.

Good for you, DR Freddie!

Good morning, friends.

Goodness, I am sure what DR Laura does, regularly feeding the entire congregation, it much more strenuous than my occasional holiday dinners.
-
And my friend, Lori, hosted 30, putting my poor efforts to shame
-
Anyhoo, I must to work

Oh… TOD
-
Last night I watched the second (technically, the third) of Truffaut's Antoine Doinel films, Stolen Kisses. Love this one.
-
Well lots of dresses…girls weren’t allowed to wear trousers at school until I was in 9th grade, then suddenly all dress codes were lifted and it was jeans and T shirts for all
-
Good for you, DR Freddie!
Thanks, singdaw. I hope I chose plans wisely. But the insurance premiums at age 65 are so far below the insurance premiums at age 64!
-
My Mom refused to buy us those expensive Levi’s, so we had to wear wranglers …the shame!
-
I used my babysitting and newspaper delivery money to buy my own levis
-
When I was a kid there were three sets of clothes:
play clothes: shorts and blouses or courderoys and sneakers
to be changed into directly after getting home from school
School clothes:dresses, skirts and blouses, short socks or knee highs, and leather shoes ( generally from Buster Brown)
Church clothes: fancy dresses, tights and patent leather Mary Jane’s
-
Every year we got a new outfit for Easter and one for Christmas
-
Then there was the late August new school clothes buying trip for the school year starting in September
-
And in June there was the buying of the new summer play clothes

Thinking more on this, I recall my "discovery" of two stores - The Gap and Miller's Outpost - and how nice it was to buy all manner of casual clothing for not much money in those places.
I'm nearly positive that it was in one of those stores, in the '70s, that I decided it was time to let my hair down and begin wearing jeans now and then. I also remember getting corduroy there, which I think I also wore as a kid, but the jeans breakthrough was a significant one for me.
Yep. The Miller's Outpost on Westwood Blvd. Loved that one.

Good morning!

Happy Birthday to former DR SANDRA.

TOD:
Jeans and t shirts.
Short sleeved shirts with button down collars or pullover shirts.
Corduroys.
-
For my first five years or so, through kindergarten, I believe, I wore clothes my grandmother sewed on her old pedal Singer machine. I think it was when I changed schools for first grade that our school clothes at the end of August were always purchased at JC Penney. My memory - and we're talking 70 years ago! - is that we mostl;y wore jeans and button-down shirts through the school term and light knit slipover shirts and shorts. I remember alligator shirts. My brother Macbeth, two years younger than I, wore jeans during the summer to hide the braces on his legs between the ages of 4 and 9 because of physical therapy for cerebral palsy. Those mothers were heavy!
-
Just enjoyed the "Marilyn Monroe Breakfast Skillet," poolside.
-
Somehow I wonder if Marilyn would have eaten potatoes.
-
I've finished kitty cleanup, been to the basement, picked up the mail and a Chewy carton, straightened the door mat, opened the Chewy carton and put away the Meow Mix kibble, found the external hard drive and retrieved the missing desktop folder, and I'm getting the energy to make the bed. Jen should be coming by soon to make a bank run for me.
-
Somehow I wonder if Marilyn would have eaten potatoes.
I'd have imagined the Marilyn Monroe breakfast might be quite continental.
(a try at a Gentlemen Prefer Blondes joke)

I hadn't realized that your brother "Macbeth" had grown up disabled. That might explain a bit as to how his "Lady Macbeth" might have been able to manipulate

Whatever Penney’s or Sears sold. Sometimes the Gap, which was quite cheap back then. I had to get my jeans in the “husky” section, which was mortifying. Sears Toughskin jeans were supposed to prevent holes at the knee, but they didn’t, and man did I get crucified when I wore a hole in the knees of my jeans.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep, she of the Evil Eye has arrived, and I shall go have a breakfast.

Oh, my.
Harvard sues the Trump administration in escalating confrontation (https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2025/04/21/harvard-sues-trump-administration-funding-antisemitism/)
Lawsuit argues that government actions, including freezing $2.2 billion in federal funding, violated the First Amendment and didn’t follow legal procedures. :-X

Being overweight my whole life, I only ever got clothes from the "husky" section, so I didn't know anything else. :-\
-
But growing up, I remember going to Sears and Penny's and Montgomery Wards for clothes.
-
Congrats to MR BK on finding the date!
-
I don’t remember ever having khakis growing up. I remember getting a pair of fecal-colored corduroys for Christmas. I have rarely worn any shade of brown since.
-
fecal-colored
;D
It's the Martha-approved Color of the Year!

Was reading out by the pool, but the sun encroached.

So singdaw, what was in the Marilyn Monroe breakfast skillet?
And is there a Marilyn Monroe lunch or dinner, too?

fecal-colored

It's the Martha-approved Color of the Year!
Not in my house, please.

For "Succession" watchers, I found this YouTube adorable.
The actors who played Tom and Cousin Greg swap roles and read what you might call the "What am I going to so with a soul anyway? Souls are boring" scene
"Nicholas Braun & Matthew Macfadyen Swap Roles"

From DR Rodzinski:
I can’t even get them to come to my place in the same state!
;D
L.A. is our home town ;)
-
DR Singdaw I'm glad your plane was fine.

From Bruce:
What, no one here has seen the following early movies with robots: Tobor the Great, The Invisible Boy, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Target Earth? Westworld, The Stepford Wives?
Hmm, I'm sure Keith has. I know I watched The Day the Earth Stood Still with him, not sure about Tobor, Targe Earth, or the Invisible Boy.
Together we watched Westworld and, yes that is a good Robot film. I misremembered that the Wives were possessed vs robots. Still, I wouldn't pick it as a favorite robot film.
-
Other films:
A/I.
RoboCop
The Terminator series
-
Back from breakfast and errands and whatnot.
-
DR Vixmom, as always I am exhausted after reading about your day. Did everyone simply just drink water at your Easter dinner?
-
DR Vixmom, thank you for the birthday wishes and vibes for Keith.
-
I wish I could say he feels better. He can't smell anything and he does not have covid.
-
Hmm, George what phone do you have?
My iPhone mini keyboard has 123 instead of your 1/2.
Then #4= to take me to the squigly thing. Instead of your 2/2 on your keyboard I show 123 above the ABC again
-
Four!
-
DR George thank you for mentioning we were up to see you a few years ago. That was a fun trip, Olympia for our anniversary and then we got to see you and Jed in the show together.

Plus we got to meet you for lunch at the Mexican restaurant.

The dress code wasn't lifted until after I graduated.
-
Even at work I had to wear a dress or skirt. At least they didn't measure the length and I wore mini skirts.
-
DR George thank you for mentioning we were up to see you a few years ago. That was a fun trip, Olympia for our anniversary and then we got to see you and Jed in the show together.
It was so great of you and Keith to come to Redmond, Washington to see The Last Starfighter, and we had the mini-HHW gathering, in June 2018, along with George and TCB. And you even drove me to the Seattle airport for my trip back East.
-
Sending more vibes and prayers for DR Iris.

Twice we went up to see DR TCB in shows. I believe we also saw DR George in a show the first time we went there. Before It's a Wonderful Life with TCB as Mr. Potter (he was fantastic) we ate dinner with George and then the three of us went to the show together.

Had a particularly nasty text volley.

I hope you ended it with a slam dunk MR BK.
-
I have seen all of the robot movies MR BK mentioned.
And enjoyed them all.....BUT.....
-
The most memorable robot story I saw was an episode of the Twilight Zone. It was called "The Lonely."
A man had committed a crime and was sentenced to spend the rest of his life ALONE on an asteroid in space. A sympathetic space ship captain secretly brought him a robot woman to keep him company on one of his yearly scheduled visits.
They became very close. Then the captain shows up again and tells the man his sentence has been commuted and he can return to earth. The man doesn't want to leave without his robot. But the weight of the robot prohibits it coming along.
The man is heart broken and almost decides to stay until the captain shoots the robot in the face and we see all the wires and machinery as she says the man's name for the last time.
The End.

Nope. I was being the follower. I had to dance it as most followers would. It was a waltz.

Five!

I've probably seen all of those movies BK and everyone else mentioned. I was just thinking more along the lines of "contemporary" AI-themed material. But I guess it stands to reason that any robot throughout time has represented "AI" in one form or another.
-
DR John G., it might behoove you to hem your skirts a wee bit higher.
I mean, how do you walk down the street having to lift them all the time?

I call them “hey, U” for short.

Back to Ex-Husbands. Sweet, sad movie. Griffin Dunne is wonderful. Richard Benjamin has a small but memorable role.

Oliver Hardy, without Mr. Laurel, is in an odd Charley Chase short. Eugene Pallette is back.

Mom made coffee to go with our plethora of desserts

Sandra. A blast from the past.

Watched the Ex-Husbands trailer. Looks good.

You can dance the Pachanga, for one.

You can eat a piece of creamed herring, for two.

You could darn a pair of socks whilst whistling the theme from The High and the Mighty, for three.

You could do all that and more
