Well, you've read the notes, the notes were throbbing, and now it is time for you to post until the throbbing cows come home.

For those errand and truant people who may have missed the announcement, here's the new release - you can just go to the Kritzerland website to order if you so choose.

Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition soundtrack:

THE BERLIN AFFAIR
Music Composed by Pino Donaggio

In 1974, director Liliana Cavani made the extremely controversial film The Night Porter, which divided critics and audiences all over the world.  A decade later, she was back with The Berlin Affair (based on the novel The Buddhist Cross by Junichiro Tanazaki), which, while not as controversial as The Night Porter, still explored hotbed topics of sexuality and homosexuality, race, jealousy, torment, deception, betrayal, all set in 1938 Berlin and involving a Nazi official, his wife, the daughter of the Japanese Ambassador, an art teacher, all of whose lives intertwine in ultimately destructive ways.  The cast was excellent, with German actress Gudrun Landgrebe elegant and beautiful as Louise, Kevin McNally as her husband, and alluring Mio Takaki as the object of many people’s desires.  The film was beautifully photographed by Dante Spinotti, who would go on to photograph Manhunter, Crimes Of The Heart, The Last Of The Mohicans, LA Confidential, and many others.   Capturing the seething passions, eroticism, intrigue, and atmosphere, Pino Donaggio’s score is as much a leading player in the film as any of its characters.

Donaggio had been scoring films for over a decade, starting with Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now (1973), and continuing with his work for Brian De Palma (Carrie, Dressed To Kill, Body Double, Blow Out and others) as well as cult classics like Tourist Trap, The Howling, Piranha, Tex, Hercules, as well as providing quite a few scores for Cannon Films, of which The Berlin Affair was one.  The score for The Berlin Affair is Donaggio at the top of his game.  With its sinuous, swirling, hypnotic melodies capturing all the underlying complexities of the characters and the story, the music is like a symphonic fever dream in the film, and a wonderful and completely satisfying listening experience away from the film.  In fact, the music is mixed quite low in the film, and many cues are truncated, so it’s especially lovely to hear them complete and in gorgeous sound.  The themes are some of the most beautiful Donaggio has ever written.

The Berlin Affair was issued on LP, but this is its world premiere CD release.  The LP presented forty-two minutes of music, including a title song (inspired by but not used in the film), and several source/pastiche cues.  We present all those, plus all the cues not used on the album, and they are many.    The CD was mastered from the original Italian two-track mixed score tapes housed in the MGM vaults – they were in pristine condition and the recording is absolutely stunning.  The CD runs just about an hour and contains about eighteen minutes of never before released score cues.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price of the CD is $19.98, plus shipping.   Additionally, we are offering a special deal with the purchase of this release.  Go to the item page and click on the link to find out about it.

CD will ship the first week of July – however, never fear, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

So...

I got a call asking me if I could cover a shift at the restaurant tonight, and since I was free, well...

I started at 4:00pm.

I clocked out at 2:00am.

OY!

It was actually a good shift. We were busy, but it never got crazy-busy.  There was also a private party in the Garden Room, and the head of the organization gave each of the waitstaff - myself included - an additional cash tip on top of the gratuity on the bill.

Good morning, all! I will be out of here shortly to head down to Toyland. I've got to finish this project and I find I accomplish more out of the apartment than in it with too many distractions. I've got a couple of things to write out, and I'll finish them faster there. I can leave some things until Sunday, but I'd like our MD Brent to have all the choral things tomorrow before our 1 pm meeting. My publisher sent me pdf files of the band parts for the Appalachian Carols, so I've downloaded them and printed them out. That's out of my hair.

We've got twelve fantastic actors who all play fiddle, guitar, banjo and bass for next week's rehearsals. Leenya Rideout's a friend of DR FJL and Skip, and she's currently in THE WAR HORSE, which I really want to see. David Lutken toured as Will Rogers in the WILL ROGERS FOLLIES and I've been a fan since I saw him as the Balladeer in the City Opera's stunning production of PAUL BUNYAN. Jarrod Emick, who was wonderful as Joe Hardy in the DAMN YANKEES revival, is playing the father of the family having the Christmas party. I am getting very excited about this piece. And that takes care of my next seven days!

DR JRand60, I will try to get your CDs into the post this afternoon!

DR Laura, I agree; when I was going through my several health problems of the past seven years and I was too depressed to do much, Guy Haines was the one singer I listened to regularly to pick me up. We need a new Guy Haines album.

DR Jennifer, I think your allergies are out of control and you need to see your doctor for meds and tests. I hope that will alleviate your problems.

Greetings from Toyland! It was an easy trip down, except for these fools who get onto a subway car and plant their asses in the doorway, making it difficult for anyone to get aboard to to depart. It's bad enough when the train isn't too crowded but it's insane during rush hours.

First item this morning: emails about the EILEEN scores, then a vocal score for "It's the Good Old Mountain Dew."
Before we roll we'll take another bowl of the good old mountain dew!

Not an excuse by any means, but I think they plant themselves in the doorway because if they politely step in, they'll likely lose the door to lean on for the rest of their trip - not an excuse, but I think that's the reason.

Thanks DRs Jose and Cillaliz re: your suggestions about going to the doctor.

Last night I did not have a good night. So I was all set to go to the doctor's this morning. But I woke up feeling a bit better.

I think the sudafed was the wrong thing to take. It didn't make me drowsy ( i was surprised about that). But it made my throat really dry (worse than i thought). And it did nothing for my head or sinuses. So by1:30am i was in terrible pain. Not being able to sleep and my head was throbbing.

I had to wait till 2am when i was able to take an Advil Cold and Sinus. And my head stopped hurting after about an hour. Then i was able to sleep.

Last night I thought it was getting worse (hence the doctor). But today it feels like maybe it is getting better. I'll see later how i feel.

BK, do you know anything about this new 2CD SA release of THE BIBLE?  I got it yesterday (I already had the first CD release).  I frankly couldn't make head (n?)or tails of the verbiage on the SA site, which is more or less reproduced in the liner notes.  The thing that is confusing me is it sounds like they had more "tapes" (do they mean mags?), but that Overture sure sounds like a needle drop to me, replete with pops and all.

Friday morning greetings!  The sun is shining brilliantly here in SW Ohio - something that hasn't happened for quite a long time.  My intention is to get outside for a walk today and then get back to my sorting/filing/shredding.  That came to kind of a halt this week because of the meetings I attended Wednesday and Thursday.  Last night my book group met to discuss Cleopatra's Daughter and next Thursday we'll go together to see the Cleo exhibit at Cincinnati's Museum Center and participate in their discussion of the same book.

DR Jennifer - You should still see a doctor. Seriously.

And, seriously, with all of those OTC meds, it sounds like you could have over-medicated yourself. -As for the Sudafed making your throat scratchy, that just means you didn't need to take it. Sudafed is supposed to dry you out.

Again, if you can easily schedule an appointment with a doctor, go see one.

DR Ginny - It should be fun. There's a Facebook group for all of the participants, and I have to say that I'm a bit leery of some of the more gung-ho participants. "Can I bring a video camera?" "What kind of lens are you bringing?" "If I shoot video footage of you, will you shoot video footage of me?" "I think we should all meet beforehand for a drink, and then meet afterwards for breakfast. Is there a place nearby that can handle 200 walk-ins?"... -We're supposed to be following these "Quests", and writing a book during out "lock-in". If all some people are worried about is taking pictures and shooting video, well...

In any case... The NYPL is also giving out free copies of their "Centennial" book. -I'll be sure to grab a copy for you. :)

I will miss the relative luxury of a 15-20 subway ride to "work" once I start down in DC. I think my usual routine to get to Arena will be a 20 minutes car ride, followed by a 35 minutes Metro ride. -Or if I choose to drive in from Fairfax, that could take as little as 25 minutes, or as long as 75 in rush hour traffic.

My doctor's office does not easily have appointments. There is a new clinic very near by that supposedly is quite easy to go to.

The only over the counter med i've tried is Advil cold and sinus. And my one try with sudafed last night.

I was planning to take your advice and go this morning. But then i woke up feeling a bit better.

Unless they are sure it is a serious sinus infection they normally tell us to wait it out. That is why i was waiting to go.

JMK - that release of The Bible is really sketchy in many ways.  First of all, there is no overture in the Bible.  Someone on the FSM board went through and made the proper sequence with notes.  Let me see if I can cut and paste here.

Disc 1
Track 1 Overture is actually the Entr'acte
There is no Overture for this film.
There is the silent 20th-Fox 70mm logo on curtains
in dark theatre with curtains opening on
the Main Title
Tracks 3,4,8,9, 11 & 15 are from the Original Soundtrack recording
Album (Long Playing and Reel to Reel)
Track 15 is not an Intermezzo. It is composed of Creation of Eve/Forbidden Fruit
and the Entr'acte. This track should be discarded. It was a filler track for the RCA Italiana (LP and CD) that replaced the Creation John Huston narration mix on the 20th-Fox Soundtrack release (LP and reel)

Disc 2 Tracks 1 and 2 should be after Track 4
and Track 1 should be the Entr'acte (Overture from Disc 1 Track 1)
Tracks 5 and 6 should be after Track 12
Track 12 is erroneously titled "Jealousy of Sarah"
This track is Lot's Wife/Pillar of Salt/Destruction of Sodom
Tracks 8 and 9 are repeats (Stereo/Mono)
Track 3,5,8, 19, 20 are from the Original Soundtrack recording
Album (Long Playing and Reel to Reel)
Track 20 was the 1st band/track on the original 20th-Fox album and reel to reel tape.

The proper sequence for this release would be:

Disc 1

1. The Creation
2. Creation of Adam
3. Creation of Eve
4. Forbidden Fruit
5. Banishment from the Garden
6. Cain and Abel
7. Cain Kills Abel
8. Noah’s Ark
9. Feeding the Animals
10. 40 Day and 40 Nights
11. Noah Watching Through the Hatch
12. New Beginning – The Raven
13. New Beginning the Dove
14. New Beginning – Leaving the Ark _Intermission Title

Disc 2

1. Entr'acte (Overture from Disc 1, Band 1)
2. Tower of Babel – Part 1
3. Tower of Babel – Part 2
4. Abraham – Part 1
5. Abraham – Part 2
6. Abraham – Scene of Love
7. Sarah and Hagar
7. The Lord’s Apparition – Three Men by the Terebinth 6:00
8. Sodom
9. The Evil Ram
10. Dance for Isaac
11. Lot's Wife - Pillar of Salt - Destruction of Sodom (Jealousy of Sarah)
12. Hagar’s Sadness
13. Hagar in the Desert
14. Hagar and the Angel
15. God Speaks to Abraham
16. Abraham’s Sacrifice
17. Finale with Chorus
18. End Titles

Alternate Tracks
Disc 2
19. Dance of Sodom
20. God Halts Abraham and Finale

Do you mean in terms of who Alicia ends up with? I like her. I like Will. But I love Mr. Big (Chris Noth). I also love Alicia and Kalinda so wasn't really that happy when the secret came out a few weeks ago. And not happy that Chris Noth was kicked out of her hosue. I like them together.

Keith was for north & believed he was sincere.  now it appears he wasn't.  i have had my doubts about him all along.  we shall see.  i was sorry she found out about kalinda, for both their sakes, but like the changes k is going through.  did you expect alicia to let him stay once she found out about the 2nd betrayal?

Has anybody here seen a movie called PASSION PLAY with Mickey Rourke?

I know the reviews are not that great, but I'm wondering if the film is really that bad.

haven't seen it.

Spent the last few hours doing the edit road map for our next project.  Fun stuff, but tedious to do.  Had a nice telephonic conversation with Jason Graae, who's thrilled with the way the mix sounds.  Now I must go see if I have packages and an important envelope.  Trying to hold out and not eat anything before dinner, since we'll be going out after the show, too.

I"m awake and out the door.  Nice to be able to sleep almost an extra hour on work days as I'm closer to the church and school now.

Nothing new here.

I can relate--it took me about 15 minutes to drive from the Metro station to my apartment (a distance of just over 1 mile).

doesn't matter how long ago it was new info to her.  i felt she struggled to make the marriage work & had she not taken him back so he could get out of jail she might never have done so.  she did give him a chance to explain when he showed up at her place, instead he yelled at her as if she was the cheater.  idiot pushed her into will's arms.  i like how her relationship with eli has changed with time.

I will be participating in a "game" with 499 other participants called Find The Future (http://game.nypl.org/). It should be quite an interesting time. thank goodness for reruns.  if i could make a dvd for you i would.

When I get home, I'll check to see if it's available on On Demand.  Thanks, though. :)

I checked and the last three episodes are available. :D

I wonder why specific channels (ABC, Fox) aren't available through On Demand.
