Would wishing people a "Hari Crismakwanzinikah" be too politically correct?

On a more pensive note...

It was sort of a bittersweet evening for me at times.  Happy overall, but there was a tinge of, I guess, melancholy initially.  When I walked into Steve's apartment, the first thing I noticed were his Christmas trees, and on them were some of the ornaments we had bought together years ago.  And some of them were even bought "for" me.  The whole sense of nostalgia caught me off-guard, but I eventually came out of whatever I was in, and enjoyed the evening with my friends.

Then during my drive downtown looking at all the lights, this sense of "the last time" came over me.  I guess I really am in the mindset to move to New York City.  This, too, caught me off guard.  Yes, the lights were as beautiful as ever, but something definitely felt different about them, about the atmosphere.

I cried a little.

When I get back to Richmond Sunday night, I'm planning on making another drive downtown to take pictures.  I need to take pictures.

-I'm sorry for being a bit of downer right now...  I'm OK.  Growing up is a bitch. ;)

I guess I'm the first to post about Dear BK's "do."  It was swell!  Lots of lovely people.  Many Hainsies and Kimlets, from near and also from afar.  Many other folks that we tried to convert to the site over the course of the evening.  Guy Haines was there, I am told, but he had another party to go to and apparently left just before I got there, so I once again missed the opportunity to meet him in person.

The food--especially Dear BK's homemade spaghetti and tomato sauce and pasta salad--was yummilicious!

We even had an entertainment in the form of a string of movie trailers for supposed films of various genres (i.e., noir, musical, western, horror) that Dear BK created in 1980.  It was hysterically funny.

There was romantic intrigue at the party, too, but I will let one of the members of the newly affianced couple provide details on that front.

...OH!  And as soon as I got home, I took out my clippers and "fixed" the one tuft of hair I had missed earlier.  -Steve was more than happy to point it out to me.  ;)

Do they make 3-D mirrors?

DR Michael Shayne - RE: The poster image from "Silent Night, Deadly Night"....

I remember when that movie came out.  There was some controversy - and understandbly so - about the movie.  A murderous Santa Claus?  It even creeped me out - and still does - at least the image of Santa heading down the chimney with an axe in hand.  Truly not a pleasant holiday image.  I remember the local paper pulling the ads since parents were getting complaints after the children had seen the image.  And I also seem to remember that the TV ads were restricted to late night time slots.  -And didn't the movie have an alternate title too at one point and time?

The party was just swell. Much laughter and singing. Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start....
Here is a photo of bk's delicious pasta being made...

Photo of Panni and DD. Notice one of bk's latest acquisitions behind us. A fabulous piece.
(I look strange, but Guy Haines took the photo and it's hard to take a good pic while trying to keep a cap in front of your face.)

All righty - somewhat cleaner around these here parts.  I'm so full right now I'm about to explode.  The romantic intrigue dear reader Jay mentioned was the stunning announcement that dear daughter Rachel and I shall be married.   ;D

And now, the moment you've been waiting for: The spaghetti sauce, simmering merrily away.

I'm sure that bk will have a detailed account of the party in his notes -- as well as a GROUP PHOTO. The guests were a sparkling bunch and the food was delish. bk's famous spaghetti sauce was even better than last year. More kick, I believe.
And the desserts were to die for.

Of course the stunning news was news to the darling daughter.  She took it well - she asked if I had any Advil.  She seemed both thrilled and repulsed and looked as if she wanted to vomit on the ground - everything I look for in a wife.  Here is a photo directly after the stunning announcement.

And for those who've forgotten, here is a photograph of our lovely Hisaka - I would have made a stunning announcement that she and I were to be married if she hadn't just told me she WAS married.

I have bad news for bk. DD's boyfriend called just as we got home. I overheard the conversation and they sounded pretty chummy. I did not hear the words "break-up" or "strange older man." I heard talk of spaghetti, though. The spaghetti was a hit.

Ahhh I always wondered why Hanukkah got the shaft in the word!! It all makes sense now! Midnight Mass was ok, but the music was interesting. It was like everyone in the church was afraid to sing. I just wanted to shout, "Sing out Louise!!!!!!" I always thought Christmas was supposed to be a celebration of joy, not timidity! When I come back this summer I am going to have to learn them a lesson or two.  I am done ranting now. It was nice we were all squished together like sardines with another family with whom we are good friends. Normally I would have been uncomfortable that squished but the thermometer in my dad's truck read -17 on the way to church so I was glad for the warmth!  :D

I'm back from my parents' house and a good time was had by all!  My mom and dad, my niece, my sister and her boyfriend were all there.  We all got gifts and no one got much more than anyone else.  I got CA$H!! as well as a gift card for Circuit City! and a NEW MOTHERBOARD FOR MY COMPUTER!!  I don't know about a fatherboard, unless the father got bored and took a hike. ::) I also got some socks from my parents.  I never would have thought to ask for socks, but they're certainly wanted.  You can never have too many socks.  At least, I'm not anywhere near having too many socks!

Anyway, the gift giving (and receiving) is all done for the season for us.  Tomorrow, we're all going to my sister's house (next door to me) to eat and be merry (not marry, nor Mary).  We will play our favorite family card game, Phase 10.  If you haven't played this, it's pretty darned fun.

Good evening all.

We have returned from night services at the church, it was a good service.

Now I am curled up in our guest bedroom watching Miracle on 34th Street and eating Ritz crackers and drinking grape juice.  This is an old favorite snack of mine....crackers and grape juice.
Tomorrow we have to get up early early in the morning to hie ourselves over the pass.  First stop is Seattle to see my sister, second to Port Angeles, over on the penninsula, for dinner with my uncle and his wife.  Should be good times.  Then I am home home again to my little apartment in Tacoma.
