On the iPod, the soundtrack to The Americanization Of Emily which, for my money ($1.33) has one of the most beautiful motion picture themes ever written - Emily.

I just got home, and have to catch up on the posts, but....

Currently, outside my apartment, there are a number of police cars.  My block is currently cordoned off with police tape.  Right before I stepped into my apartment, another police car drove up and a couple officers jumped out of the back of the truck and proceeded to don police gear and pull out their guns and rifles.  And as of five minutes ago, there are now two(!) police helicopters circling over the block, and focusing their searchlights on the windows and roof on the row houses across the street...

Guess I'll be up for a while... :-\

Safe and peaceful sleep vibes for DR Mr Piano.  "Show us your chopper" is not an appropriate catch cry at this time.

I've been revisiting some favourite songs from a decade or more ago:

Luka (Suzanne Vega)
Anchorage (Michelle Shocked)
First We Take Manhattan (Jennifer Warnes)

Are you sure they're not filming CSI:NY or a Law & Order?

der Brucer

(Now that the real NY (on Universal's backlot) is gone, filming may have to return to Gotham.

I just watched "The Wedding Banquet."  I'd never seen it before.  It was very good and quite touching. :)

That is all.

Well...

Only one helicopter circling now... All the poilce and their cars are still in the street... And they are still not letting people walk along the sidewalk...  Apparently, there's a possible hostage situation across the street.

I wish I could have seen STEEL PIER.  I was in New York in '97 to see the first preview of TITANIC.  When the TITANIC preview was delayed from Friday to Sunday, I had to flip a coin between seeing two other shows in preview, STEEL PIER and JEKYLL AND HYDE.  I lost the coin toss and saw JEKYLL AND HYDE.  I did think that Robert Cuccioli was very good in the role, but I wasn't terribly impressed with Linda Eder (maybe she had an off-night).

Well... I don't think Linda Eder ever really a really "on" night. ;)

However... There is that one preview where she had lost her voice, but since her understudy had not yet gone through the show, they came up with the following solution: Linda would go on stage and act and say the dialogue, and when it came time for the songs, her understudy would sing on a mic off-stage - while Linda basically lip-synced on-stage!  And her understudy was none other than the fabulous Emily Skinner!

What I really want to know is why the strawberry rhubarb sauce includes lemon juice.  Is it just as a preservative of some sort?   It isn't like rhubarb needs the tartness of lemon juice

"Two Fat Ladies" was one of the very few cooking shows I could tolerate - because it was entertainment!

Two very "real" people, not full of themselves. (And one was a barrister!)
