Oh...

And the nail in the coffin for me was when we were heading out, and the merchandise guy starts in with:

"If you got plenty of nothin', be sure to stop by here to get somethin'."

Finished with my viewing.  I don't know if I'll write any more this evening - I did twenty-two pages today.

I've been having a fun correspondence with Teller's partner (not Penn - his life partner).  He wrote me on Facebook to tell me that Teller had given him the CD and Blu of Nudie Musical and wrote to tell me how much they both loved the movie.  He's also gotten There's Mel and loves, that, too.  He wrote me today that they'd both just watched all six episodes of Outside the Box and laughed their asses off.  So nice to hear.  I told him that if I could figure out how to do one of these for Teller that I would.  Wouldn't that be fun?

Mime, the musical?

MUTE ME IN ST LOUIS?

SILENT GREEN?  (or wait, you already did SOYLENT GREEN.)

The musical version of Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie."

As for The Gershins' Porgy & Bess...

Well...

I'm really not sure just how I feel about what I saw on stage at the Richard Rodgers earlier tonight.

Part of me is majorly conflicted.

And another part of me is actually offended.

A few of the "highlights" for me:
-A brand new Overture. -Not a Prologue, but an old-fashioned Broadway Overture. -Didn't Diane Paulus want to make this production more realistic?
-"Summertime" is now a duet. -That's when I started not to care - and that was only five minutes into the show.
-There's now a dance break in the middle of "It Ain't Necessarily So".
-The music that underscores the big dramatic - and originally traumatic and tragic - moment of the second act has been jerry-rigged to make it more of a happy, triumphant one. -Prompting the audience to cheer in approval.
-There's way too much accordion in the orchestration.

However...

I will say that Audra McDonald more than likely locked up her next Tony as soon as she opened her mouth to start singing "I Loves You Porgy".

The two film clips on Broadwaystars.com made me want to see this even less I than I did before. And I'm a big Norm Lewis fan.

Watching "Art School Confidential." I'm not liking this one too much. And I like most everything else Terry Zwigoff has made.

I don't know if I mentioned it here, but the trucks that unloaded Young Frankenstein parked right under my office.  When the conditions are just wrong (as they were today) and there are 2 semis in the alley the exhaust comes right in my office.  So today I breathed in diesel all day.  I had a  headache and had to open the windows many times.   After seeing the show tonight, I'm not longer mad about it.   I really enjoyed it.  We get the one night tours with the young "happy to be on his/her first national tour" actors. Sometimes they aren't so good, but tongiht they were all good and some were excellent.   It was great fun and it was fun to see such a different crowd, lots more young people and lots of young men.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Today Richard and I are celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary.  I'm going to a knitting class and we're going for dinner to a fundraiser for the local senior center.  Do we know how to party, or what?

A Very Happy 31st Wedding Anniversary to DR Ginny and Richard!! ;D

Now I shall go home and find some dinner.  Then off to the theater.  I have never seen Young Frankenstein, the musical, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I saw the pre-Broadway production in Seattle, and the tour, which I would assume is the same tour that you're seeing, is coming to Olympia next month. :)

This recording project is cursed. Another new wrinkle has occurred late this afternoon. And it's a big one.

They closed our building today at 4:00.  I stayed today for a couple of hours because I HAD to finish the end-of-fiscal-year roll-over...but I couldn't actually finish it.  The last report that I have to run requires an administrative password that I don't have. :P

A lot of people at work today were wondering if they (the admin) would close the libraries throughout the district, but nothing was said before most people left, so we have to check in or try to get to work to find out.  I won't have much trouble getting to work, so I'm not too concerned, but if they close the Service Center, I'll have to call my staff (MY staff) and let them know that they won't have to come in...if they're not already there.
