Funny thing about IT HAPPENED TO JANE. It came out in 1959 and was a total bust at the box-office. After a run of less than huge grossers, folks were thinking Doris Day's career might be on the wane. Later in the year, PILLOW TALK came out, and it was such a smash that it catapulted Doris to the #4 position on the Quigley Top Box Office Stars list.

Since I got all the major predictions correct in my local newspaper's Oscar contest, I'll find out in a day or two if I win the movie passes. When there's a group of people who get them all right, they put the entries in a hat and draw. Last year, with 100%, I did win third place in the drawing - 12 movie passes. I suspect my luck won't hold out for a second year.

Off I leap into my day, having put my slide cues in order. Anyone here in NYC who might have one of those Kodak slide carousels?? I brought the show carousel with me, and only this morning discovered that the little round doohicky that locks the slides in place is MISSING... last time I had it was at Bristol Riverside Theatre a year ago... oy...

AND - I need a few set pieces... can someone loan me a hat rack, a small dressing table (with or without a mirror attached), some sort of mid-sized desk (or table that could be tricked out to look like one...) sturdy enough for my svelte self to stand on? Just need them for 2 weeks... I'm gonna hit the thrift shops this week...

Wow, 31 pages to catch up on! You guys went crazy last night.

I have a few comments about the Oscars the day after:

Someone mentioned wanting subtitles for Beyonce's french song. Well I don't think that would have helped. I speak french and she was mispronouncing almost every word. I do like Beyonce. But I was not happy with what she did last night. Especially the french song.

I was also not sure what I would think of having the nominees for some categories on stage. I guess it was okay (well better than I thought it would be - although that doesn't say much). I would be interested to know what the nominees thought. Did it make them happy to get the recognition by being on stage. Or were they just embarrassed to do it.

It did save time. And I thought it was preferable to doing the categories in the aisles. That as just weird. I love seeing the glamorous people up on stage. And having them do it from the aisles was just not the same. I would have actually preferred the presenter to be on stage and then have them accept the award in the aisle. But I hated how they did that.

As for the gowns, I am extremely picky. The ones that I think will be on the best dressed list today (not necessarily the ones i loved): Halle berry, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Hilary Swank, Kate winslet.

Of those the only ones i really liked were: Charlize and Kate Winslet.

I think the most popular "outfit" for men would be Salma Hayek's "accessories" that were spilling out of her dress.

Here's a loving note for today: were my parents still alive, it would have been their 63rd anniversary. They did make it to 52 before my father passed.

I too keep track of my parent's anniversary.

This coming September would have been their 53rd.

If they hadn't gotten divorced a month after their 20th.

The Oscar show did come in thirty minutes shorter than last year. So what they did last night did at least accomplish time saving measures.

Desserts! In suburban Cincinnati there's a restaurant called the Grand Finale that serves lunch, dinner, a lovely Sunday brunch, but specializes in desserts. The one I'd love to be able to order (but they took it off the menu years ago

) is Banana Walnut Torte: 3 or 4 layers of delicious cake glued together with cream cheese filling. Take a look at what they DO still offer at:

McCormick and Schmick on 52nd between 6th and 7th does a Truffle Sundae to DIE FOR!!! Rich vanilla ice cream - 2 GENEROUS scoops, with fudge saude, a piece of their chocolate truffle cake, dense whipped cream. Ohmygawd...

Good Morning! Good Afternoon!

Well, I didn't exactly wake up early as planned... Actually, I did wake up early, but I didn't get out of bed until later... Semantics, eh... I guess last night's HHW Oscar Party tuckered me out more than I thought. And it was wonderful heading to bed with the strains of UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG fresh in my head - Thanks for the "hint" DR Ann.

So, in a little while, I'll begin pulling out my bags and luggage and start packing them. Then unpacking them. Then packing them again. I am really going to try just to pack the essentials. And if I find myself short on clothes while on the road, there's always Old Navy.

I head to Greensboro on Wednesday, and I'll heading back on Sunday - so I can make a stop here for a few hours before heading up to DC. -Then I'll be training up to NYC on Monday. I'll pack a small bag for this week in Greensboro, and my big luggage for NYC, Memphis and Indy. And I'll pick up the big piece of luggage on the return trip from Greensboro. *I also have to be very careful that I don't over-pack my big bag so I don't get charged for it being too heavy when I start my planes flights. -And to make it easier for me to drag from the train through Penn Station and up to 34th Street!

Hmm... I may need to print out a copy of this post for myself.

One "nice" thing I realized the other day was that Greensboro is only about a three hour and a half hour trip from here. I kept thinking it was something more along the lines of five to six hours. I was thinking Charlotte - the land of DR MattH - which is where I've driven to in North Carolina that past couple of times. It was nice to realize this since it will give me a few extra hours on Wednesday morning, or at least some extra time to make a BBQ stop in Durham. -It's all about the food!

And speaking of food...

Favorite dessert hands-down is the Flourless Chocolate Waffle at the Carlyle Grand Cafe in Arlington, VA. Well, the original version of that dessert which was served with macadamia-brittle ice cream. A few years ago, they tweaked the recipe and added a few dried cranberries and some walnuts to the waffle batter - to help cut the richness (what?!?!?). And the waffle is now served with plain ole vanilla ice cream. It's actually very good vanilla ice cream, but I do miss the macadamia-brittle ice cream.

I've had some other wonderful desserts here and there, but that's the one I always remember. -Even though I know there have been a few more "This is the best dessert I've ever had" moments in the meantime.

Best dessert I've ever made is apparently the German Chocolate Cake I made a few times during the run of Hallelujah, Baby!. They were special orders. But I have yet to try it myself?!?!?! But I had some very "thankful" reactions from the recipients.

Otherwise, I make a pretty good tiramisu.

And my first attempt at a Fresh Coconut Cake for Steve - it's his favorite - also came out splendidly.

JRand54, why do you think Jamie Foxx is a boor? On any of these awards shows and on Barbara Wa-wa last night, I have found him to be gracious, touching, and sincere.

MattH, I remember Jamie Foxx from his IN LIVING COLOR days, but once I saw his stand-up and started seeing him in films I realize he was a real smart actor with a wider range than one would have thought from just IN LIVING COLOR

Chris Rock is very funny. I think the Academy Awards was a venue that straight-jacketted him. I found some of his jokes amusing but I don't think they were playing to the room. Hollywood can be very stuffy and prosaic when it comes to poking fun at itself. Rock also needs time to get rolling. It wasn't going happen in ten minutes. Re: Mr. Jude Law. I agree with Mr. Penn, he is a fine, fine actor. I've seen him in plenty of films and also on stage. But I also agree with Mr. Rock, he is NOT a star. He really hasn't carried a film that's been a major hit yet.

Chris Rock could have used an acting coach; he was yelling too much of the time, when he didn't need to. Louder is not always better.

He would have been better served with better writers, as well. Bruce Vilanch's name was noticably missing in the end credits.
