Of all the great American fiction writers, I find Henry James the hardest to "get." In college, quite a few of his writings were required reading, but I found I suffered and endured them rather than enjoying them. Like DR Elmore, I did not particularly enjoy reading "The Turn of the Screw."

DON'T LOOK NOW is a classic. The movie and the du Maurier story.

Re: the comments yesterday about how easy to read the Light in The Piazza booklet.

Reading today's notes made me think of the comments made yesterday re: Light In the Piazza. It also made me think of the new Spelling Bee booklet. While I love many parts of it (the synopsis, along with where the songs fit in, the lyrics ...), it is quite hard to read. I do like the dark blue coloring. But does anybody else find the opening pages extremely difficult to read. I know they had to make the typeset small. But why would they approve it if it's that hard to read.

TOD - many already mentioned including GHOST STORY, the movie; THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, and GHOST OF DRAGSTRIP HOLLOW.

I also like Tom Tryon's THE OTHER and also Sir Arthur's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES.

Exotica that might be apropo includes: THE FROZEN GHOST, ON BORROWED TIME, and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

BUT my favorite film/play about ghosts was also mentioned, but I will say it again just because it's so darn good: BLITHE SPIRIT!

Seeing The Innocents on TV cannot possibly work because it would have been pan-and-scan, and this film cannot be seen that way. And, of course, commercials would completely ruin it further.

I've been going since 9:15. Tammy will be here in ninety minutes - I also have to go to storage and get another chart for the Sondheim benefit. I thought this afternoon might be a bit calmer, but no. It's all good, though.

...I didn't try. I just watched it and enjoyed the whole feel of it.

I also really liked "The Others." I guessed that it might be the same situation as "The Sixth Sense," but I still enjoyed it a lot.
