Of all the great American fiction writers, I find Henry James the hardest to "get." In college, quite a few of his writings were required reading, but I found I suffered and endured them rather than enjoying them. Like DR Elmore, I did not particularly enjoy reading "The Turn of the Screw."

My copy of THE JOAN CRAWFORD COLLECTION should arrive today which means THE DAMNED DON'T CRY immediately goes into the DVD player.

The Sixth Sense... how could I forget that... I very much enjoyed that movie even after multiple viewings.

DON'T LOOK NOW is a classic. The movie and the du Maurier story.

I agree with Matt on CHRISTMAS CAROL. I also really liked THE SIXTH SENSE.

Good news DR Elmore.

Btw, for those who are interested in Light In The Piazza, the cast (at least Victoria Clark and the girl who play Clara), will be Breakfast at the Arts on A&E this sunday (i think 8am-10am).

Re: the comments yesterday about how easy to read the Light in The Piazza  booklet.

Reading today's notes made me think of the comments made yesterday re: Light In the Piazza.  It also made me think of the new Spelling Bee booklet.  While I love many parts of it (the synopsis, along with where the songs fit in, the lyrics ...), it is quite hard to read.  I do like the dark blue coloring.  But does anybody else find the opening pages extremely difficult to read.  I know they had to make the typeset small. But why would they approve it if it's that hard to read.

TOD - many already mentioned including GHOST STORY, the movie; THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, and GHOST OF DRAGSTRIP HOLLOW.  :)

I also like Tom Tryon's THE OTHER and also Sir Arthur's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES.

Exotica that might be apropo includes:  THE FROZEN GHOST, ON BORROWED TIME, and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

BUT my favorite film/play about ghosts was also mentioned, but I will say it again just because it's so darn good:  BLITHE SPIRIT!

Great News Elmore. Now we just have to get your AC up and running.

If you were a really good friend you would hurry yourself over to DR elmore's apartment and stand over him, fanning him with a palm leaf to keep him  cool   ;D

Tormented, another ghost story movie (though admittedly only seen on Mystery Science Theatre 3000.)

"Tom Stewart killed me!"

Good Afternoon!

Well.. It seems like today is turning out to be another "blah" day.  Although, I'm a bit perturbed and annoyed right now after some e-mails and phone calls this morning.  We shall see...

In other news...

DR elmore - Good to hear that your truly on the mend.  If I end up in NYC next week, we'll definitely have to hit Artie's again for some more of their restorative food.  -Unless you want to venture down to 2nd Ave.  ;)

OH, forgot about TORMENTED! Good one!

And for plays, BLITHE SPIRIT starring MIchael Barnum as Dr. Bradman.

I have a DVD on order called THE GHOST WALKS (1934) starring June Collyer...will it also become a favorite ghost movie? One never knows!

They knew it would annoy you and did it just to aggravate you.

PLACEBO, baby, PLACEBO!

Seeing The Innocents on TV cannot possibly work because it would have been pan-and-scan, and this film cannot be seen that way.  And, of course, commercials would completely ruin it further.

I've been going since 9:15.  Tammy will be here in ninety minutes - I also have to go to storage and get another chart for the Sondheim benefit.  I thought this afternoon might be a bit calmer, but no.  It's all good, though.

Well, I'm back from the surgeon and feeling somewhat better; he says everything's healing fine.  My last visit is in a month:  I'm off to DC the last week of June and then he's off for two weeks to Hawaii (20th wedding anniversary).  He's a very good man, and I hope he has a great holiday.

Ah, sir, happy news indeed!

And I did like "The Sixth Sense."  I didn't figure it out :o...I didn't try.  I just watched it and enjoyed the whole feel of it.

I also really liked "The Others."  I guessed that it might be the same situation as "The Sixth Sense," but I still enjoyed it a lot.
