Come to think of it, DRSWW - none of my Hawaiian shirts come from the Hawaiian islands either.

DRMBARNUM is that the famous shirt you wore to visit Miss Allison Hayes at Holy Cross?

That is the very same one!

Did anyone explain cookies to Jennifer?

Bascally, they are little tracking devices that many websites attach to you when you come to their site. Many sites demand that you activate cookies in order to gain access. They are generally benign, and they help you access your favorite sites quicker because they use the cookie to "remember" you. But there are sinister ones that can keep tabs on you. Best to go to your preferences and clear cookies now and again.

Oddly enough, the Gal bought US Weekly, and there is a candid picture of Denis Leary sitting on a park bench in between takes. He is about 50, but in this photo, the skin around his neck looks like that of a 75-year old.
A little look at the possible effects of chainsmoking, perhaps.

Thanks for the explanation DR Rodzinski.

I'm curious.  So if you open one of those spam emails and click on the site, then delete the cookies right away, is there any harm?

I've never deleted my cookies before. :(

The sauce is simmering.  I'll keep it simmering until I leave for work.

Meanwhile, der B is ladsitting again.  It's tiring for him, especially when I'm not with him to play tag-team ladcare.

And also meanwhile, the dogs are barking at the workmen next door, who are pouring cement on what I have decided is not a McMansion.  It's a McGulag.  Poor Mikey barked so much he's lost his voice.  I shouldn't laugh at him, but his hark hark hark is too funny not to laugh.

Jennifer, don't click on the link! I don't know if you ever plan on doing that but you could get much more than cookies. If your computer gets hit with a worm or a virus or adware, deleting the cookies means diddly squat. I repeat what I said before (I'm in teacher mode now). DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. It's not worth it.

Unfortunately, as we all know, tone is hard to convey in postings. I'm not yelling at you, believe me. I just don't want you to try clicking links and then deleting your cookie file. I know some other people who seem to want to do what you've talked about and I don't understand it. Why would someone want to take the chance to screw up a machine that cost anywhere from $350 to well over $2000. Cookies Smookies, don't click links in a spam e-mail.

I will now get off my soap box again. Thanks for listening.  :)

Is it just me or does anyone else have trouble finding Denis Leary credible as a firefighter on the F/X "Rescue Me"?

My main problem with him is his hair....he has gobs and gobs of hair...a pompadour, of sorts...it looks r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s...as much so as does Donald Trump's comb-over, IMO.

No firefighter would have hair that long and full!

It's as ludicrous as Sophia Loren not aging at all in "El Cid"...!

I used to know Denis Leary; he really was a firefighter.

Speaking of Jessica Skerritt, here is a review of her debut in a Seattle made independent film (now playing at a Seattle film festival). She had told me she was in this, so I am happy to finally get to read about it.

The first film of the narrative trio, Drivers Ed, by Harp, is the most cinematically traditional of the films. Drivers Ed is the story of a young girl (Jessica Skerritt, in a marvelous debut turn) who has failed the driving portion of the drivers license exam - four times - going out for a driving lesson. Harp's film could have just been a simple, funny, one-dimensional skit. Instead, Harp imbues his characters with depth and feeling and subtle interactions that turn this clever film into a tale full of subtext.

Skerrit sparkles on the screen, bringing the perfect balance to the role of a slightly ditzy girl so hyperfocused on what her college boyfriend is up to that she plows through life running into, and over, everything around her. Also worth noting is Tony Doupe as the driving instructor. He's hilarious to watch, but his subtle interactions with Skerritt really drive the film.

And here is what the film maker has to say about Ms. Jessica Skerritt...

So, with my film, Jessica (Skerritt) was one of the first we saw. Drivers Ed, the full-length script, was written specifically to be an Anne Hathaway vehicle So most of the people brought in - they looked like Anne Hathaway., but they didn’t - they just didn’t “get” what we were looking for. Jessica totally nailed exactly what we wanted - that quality of being kind of ditzy, but because she’s so hyperfocused on her boyfriend and other things, not because she’s stupid. Jessica was just it. From that point on it was looking through head shots, saying, “Who could play her brother? Who looks like her?”

So's, anyhoo, without naming names or getting into specifics that could possibly create spousal fury, do any of you have any experience with refinishing floors?  I have this two foot gouge in my living room I need to take care of.  I'm afraid they're going to have to remove four or five planks and replace them, since the gouge moves across several.  Any ideas?  We're calling a guy today that a friend of ours has used, but any advice would be appreciated.

We have and my first response is to groan.

1st these guys tend to be unreliable, especially for small jobs. So in a friendly way keep on top of him and get his cell phone number.

Next is matching the color.  After our latest attempts and multiple visits the new floors still don’t match the old one.  Now it could be our color that is the problem and the confusion over what was originally used to coat the floor.  So the more information you have regarding the existing floor the better off you are.  From now on we will keep records of everything used on the floor.

It’s messy.  Sanding the floor is messy-dust everywhere and coating it stinks.  At least your area isn’t overly large.

Since our new patches don’t match we will need to resurface the existing floor when we replace our kitchen floor with wood.  It will be a nightmare we really tried to avoid.

Good luck and if this guy turns out to be great send him our way.

It might be possible for him to fill the gouge in with wood putty and keep the job simple. :)

Not yet.  It's a large market, in a resort town with lots of people coming and going.  Kind of like Grand Hotel, but with produce.

Does Eric bake Madelines?  One would think they are simple but really good ones are difficult to find.

DR Jane - I'm not sure if Eric has ever made madelines.  I think you need a special pan for that and to my knowledge, there is not one in our kitchen.  Maybe I'll get him one for his birthday.  If that happens, I'll be the one making the madelines!

Peanuts, technically a legume, were the only nuts I could eat when I was young without becoming seriously ill.  I still enjoy them as peanut butter, in M & Ms, whole & peanut butter style.  I often eat peanut butter by the spoonful.  My favorite peanuts to eat plain come from the Williamsburg Peanut Shoppe.

Macadamia nuts are a big favorite of mine, especially when coated in chocolate.  Tomovoz do the Australian ones taste different then our Hawaiian ones?

Unless my allergies are bothering me I eat walnuts or almonds almost everyday.  I keep toasted slivered almonds to toss into various dishes while cooking.  I use them in my Biscotti and Mandel Brot (almond bread).  Until I discovered them tossed into fudge along with dried cherries I had preferred my fudge plain.  George’s fudge with cashews sounds good.  Mostly I prefer my baked goods and ice cream without nuts.

Almonds also make great marzipan. :D

Jose smokehouse almonds are good.  And then there are the almonds coated with chocolate and dusted with fine powdered suger.

Cashews are my favorite nut to eat plain, but how they are roasted seems to effect if I can eat them or not.  I also like them tossed in salads and in stir fried foods.

Macadamia nuts are a big favorite of mine, especially when coated in chocolate.

I mustn’t forget my barbequed nut burgers with a mix of almonds, walnuts and other goodies.  Even meat eaters like them.

Just the thought of a hazelnuts, Spanish peanuts or Brazil nuts scares me.

I'll bet he didn't wear his hair the way he does on his show.

Most firefighters wear their hair short.  For extremely good reason.

Leary's current "do" would go up in a puff of smoke if he were exposed to the temperatures "real" firefighters encounter in a bad fire.  The hairspray alone should be an insurance liability on set where actual fire is used.

No bio I've ever seen indicates Leary was a fireman, but he has donated a a lot of money to the FDNY and the fire dept. in his hometown of Worcester, Mass. He had a cousin who died fighting fires there.

Well, I guess I misunderstood something I read.  I knew Leary long ago and he never discussed his background.  I liked him very much at the time, and I wish him well.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from rehearsal which was fun.  The Dance Captain and his assistant were just bringing the new Sophie cover/understudy up to speed.  We ran a couple of numbers, laughed a lot, and got a lot of work done.

Apparently, there were three "debuts" last night.  There are a couple of people leaving the show in about a month, and the "newbies" are just starting to swing in (and out) in order to learn all the tracks.

Otherwise, it was a nice was to spend my day.

And now I think I may take a nap...
