Quote
olla podrida

SYLLABICATION:   olla po·dri·da
NOUN:   Inflected forms: pl. olla po·dri·das also ollas po·dri·das
1. A stew of highly seasoned meat and vegetables. 2. An assorted mixture; a miscellany: “All the conversations were in English . . . the whole olla podrida spiced with the latest gossip” (William Pearson).
ETYMOLOGY:   Spanish : olla, olla; see olla + podrida, feminine of podrido, rotten (from Latin putridus; see putrid).

Hmm... Stew.. Rotten... Putrid...

I think I'll pass.

Yummy Yummy Yummy:

Attention potato chips lovers!

Lay's Potato Chips has a new, Pringles-like potato chip called "Stax."

And for a limited time, one of the flavors is "Dill Pickle" -- and it is w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l!!!!!!!

DR Ron Pulliam - You need to check out the new product displays at the supermarket more often.

;)

...Or maybe I need to stop checking out the new product displays so often.

;D

*My favorite Dill Pickle flavored chips are the ones made by the Route 11 Potato Chip Company in Middletown, VA.

Well, the developer has come.  He did not bat an eye at the price I "suggested."  He said that was exactly what he had been thinking.  So if his engineer says another house can fit behind ours, I believe we have a sale (with no realtor commission).

You know what this means, don't you?  Your "suggested" price was too low! ;)

OK, the weirdest thing just happened.  When I posted my JR post it was before Jose's.  It was still before Jose's when I just posted the "correction" post.  And now it's after.  Cue Twilight Zone theme, please.

Maybe, but it's a lot more than we'd get if we just sold the house to a private party.  Believe me, the "suggested" price includes a hefty "premium" for his ability to subdivide and stick another house back here.  I got lots of advice from various realtors about what should be our "take the money and run" amount, and we got that and more.  (If the deal goes through, which it may not--his engineer may say they can't fit another house back there, but that would be fine, too--we love this house and don't "need" to move.  This has all kind of been a lark).

In a mere 1000 posts or so we shall be achieving our new plateau.

Just got an auction catalog and, oh, dear, I'm afraid I will be attending and, oh, dear, I'm afraid I shall be bidding to win on at least two count them two items.  I think both items (which are at the beginning of the auction, when people just tend to bid on anything - they get tired as it winds down) will get some action, but I shall have them unless there are nutcases who drive it too high.  Then again, maybe I will get lucky and not have too much competition.

It appears all my favorite songs have been mentioned.  At first it seemed no one would include The Rebel.  Pogue-great list.

Oh...

Due some pretty severe weather going on further down 95, I'm staying put here in Fairfax tonight.  When I was heading back from auditions, there were reports on the radio about flash-flooding and downed trees on 95 around Fredericksburg.

So, I may actually head down tomorrow morning and come right back, or head down tomorrow night.

We'll see...

Oh, to answer an earlier question:

I just missed getting a series called Richie Brockelman, which went to Dennis Dugan - I really wanted to do that show.  And, of course, there were, in the history of TV, many shows and roles I would love to have done.

Final dress rehearsal tonight with NO lights.  We had lightening storms that killed all electric in our city for four hours, and now I have to reset all my clocks. :-/

Appreciated in more ways than one.

So we just got back from the neighborhood meeting next door where the developer was telling the neighbors about his proposal for that property (we of course decided we should all play dumb, since the neighborhood is already up in arms about all of this).  The sticking point with our lot is they need 6,000 sq. ft. minimum outside of the "p-zone" (TCB go for it), the environmentally protected zone that our lot backs up to.  So Betsy and I just went out and measured and she used her advanced math skills to determine there is plenty of room.  So it will be interesting to see what happens.

The kind of scary thing we learned tonight is that all of these lots that abut the p-zone and stream are considered landslide hazards.

YIKES!

A friend of mine was about to buy a house in some "great" neighborhood in New Jersey - just about 20 minutes from NYC.  He found this great house - lots of bedrooms, two full baths, garage, nice backyard, etc. - perfect place for him, his wife and their two young children.  Well...

After doing some investigating, he found out that value of the homes in this one particular block was quite a bit lower than similar properties - even than some house right across the street.  Apparently, the stream that runs behind their property has a major tendency to flood, and since most of the houses there are not on blocks and/or have really old basements...  And with the natural landscaping, the water is bound to run into the property.

Not quite the great deal he thought it was originally.

Well, I DID have ice cream today, and then I had a delcious dinner tonight with some friends that I hadn't seen since LA CAGE closed. It was fun catching up on everyone's activities and all the gossip, too.

During the run of AND THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND, lightning stuck the building and knocked out the circuit that the light board was on. The audience was asked if they wanted to cancel the show or do it with the house lights on. The applause decided that we'd do the show with the house lights on.

Before the first act was over, the circuit was repaired and they were able to run the show with light cues. But that was a strange 40 minutes or so doing to show and seeing the entire audience while we were doing it.

A friend stopped by tonight wanting to hear the song "The Only Home I Know" from SHENANDOAH. I've always loved that song, and I'm pleased he's interested in learning it as an audition piece.

Well, Boys and Girls,

You'll have to hold down the fort for me for a few days (which is nothing new, I guess).  I'm off to Chicago for the annual fundraising concert for Hopeful Heart.

 See  www.hopefulheart.com for more.

Last year our very own Jason wowed the audience, so he will be missed this year (although I'm working on the future....)

So I get to miss work (no pain there), miss a few days pay (definitely pain there) and work very hard for a few days, but it's worth it for the people Hopeful heart helps.

If I have access to a computer, I'll check in.  Otherwise, see you Tuesday.  You all be good and be careful while I'm gone!

Well I almost got to see a movie in the park tonight.

Last week we ended up leaving Miss Congeniality 2 cause the kids were bored and they started the movie while it was too light.  Tonight they waited till dark (9pm), but the kids were bored again (i went with my brother-in-law's sister and her kids and a bunch of others).

I will say this, the first 20 minutes of Guess Who (the Ashton Kutcher/Bernie Mac) movie seemed very funny.  But it was not for kids.

They need to have more kid friendly movies in the park (since tons of kids go).  And they need to have more bathrooms! 2 bathrooms for a thousand people just does not cut it.  And don't they know when kids say they have to go, they mean THAT MINUTE. I made the poor little 5 yr old go in the bush. :)
