Well, I'm packed, the cats are fed, and I'm about to hit the power button in the Prius and make my way to the airport in Omaha.  Next post will most likely be from New York. Yeah!

I'm up, I'm up!  

What day I had yesterday!  I don't have time to go back and read posts because this system is so slow.  I couldn't get it to work in my room at all and I was already in my nightgown.  Sorry but I thought I would have to wait until I went downstairs to get the thing to work.

That's about my negitive thought about this hotel.  I need my internet to WORK!

I had such a wonderful time yesterday.  I think that Elmore and I had a GREAT time seeing Patience.  Michael Ball was really in his element.  You could tell he was having a "ball" (pardon the pun) with the role of Reginald Bunthorne.

It was my real first opea and I enjoyed every moment of it!

Oh and I was able to snap a picture of Mr. Ball at the stage door before the show.  NOt that I planned on it but there he was and there I was and there my camera was!

Then the gang went out for pizza (sorry no time to list everyone) which was WONDERFUL!

The I went to see Once Around the Sun.  I'm passed a couple of e-mails with the star, Asa Somers, but I have never seen/met him in person.  

I didn't stay to meet him.  To be quite honest, I didn't really like the area I was in and wanted to get out of there ASAP.

He does have a wonderful singing voice and I really enjoyed the show.  I even bought the CD to enjoy when I get home.

Gotta run--I have that tour today but I will be at Barrymores as quick as I can this evening.  Thank you all for making this time so special.

Day 2 in New York was fantastic! As mentioned previously Jose escorted me to Carnagie Hall via Central Park where he was rudely accosted by a bird whose aim was particularly good that day  

At Carnagie Rodzinski and I saw a wonderful concert. Much of the music was similar to the Martin Denny or Les Baxter lounge/tiki music of tghe 50s....and it was great!! I absolutely enjoyed the show and it was great to see Carnagie Hall!! Afterwards we shopped at Virgin Records (which is 3 floors!!) and I picked up some CDs (Percy Faith, Amr Diab, and Les Baxter). Rodzinski showed me where Lowes State theater was (right next to Virgin) where they were showing, along with the regular American blockbusters, two different Bollywood films.

We then walked over the the pizza place (man that is good pizza! Although I actually ordered spinach ravioli I did sample a couple pieces of pizza!) where we met up with TPunk, Jose, Elmore, Danise, Ben and Anthony. This was my first time meeting Ben and Anthony and I must say that they also are two very fine people! I really enjoyed their company last night.

After dinner Jose and I had thought I might join Jose for some "special interest fun" but as we passed Lowe's theater I got to thinking it sure would be nice to see one of those Bollywood films...and I almost had Jose talked into going with me, but he chickened out at the last minute! LOL! So I went (along with about 50 or 60s Hindus) to see the comedy SALAAM NAMASTE....the movie was hilarious!! It turned out to be almost 3 hours long, however....which was hard to believe because the movie seemed to go by so fast...but it was after 11 pm when I left the theater. I began walking back to Elmores and hopped the subway and got home a little after midnight. Unfortunaltey poor Elmore was waiting up for me and he had an early day the next morning (which I feel terrible about!!). Tonight I promised to be back at a decent hour! LOL!

Jose, you missed a wonderful movie last night!!

DR Danise - Glad to hear that you made it to the theatre, enjoyed the show, and made it back from the theatre.  -And, yes, the Garment District can seem a bit creepy at night.  Well, it even feels creepy during the day sometimes.

*However, there is that great Glatt Kosher falafel place on 38th, Pick-A-Pita, as well as the Balkan restaurant, Djerdan, on the same block.  -It's all about the food!

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only one that comes to mind - and only because BK mentioned Paul Bartel in his Notes - is "Eating Raoul" - which also happened to star Mr. Bartel.

I am now off to shower and shave and head out to take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry, then to visit MOVIE STAR NEWS and JERRY OHLINGER'S MOVIE MATERIAL STORE to purchose many photos for upcoming magazine articles/interviews.

Uh, oh...CarnEgie....my bad!

I spy a Jose. If you feel like riding a Ferry for two hours and/or grabbing some brunch give me a call in the next few minutes or so!

There's just soooo much to see...

I'd suggest entering the park at 81st street on the west side... Then walk up, around, and across to the east side of the park.  Then walk around the back of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, through the Central Park Zoo to the southeast corner of the park.  -And then you do some dream shopping at FAO Schwartz once you're there.

With that path, you'll pass (at least) Strawberry Fields, Diana Ross Park, the Delacorte, one of the ponds, Sheep Pasture, Cleopatra's Needle, the Boat Pond, the Boat House, Alice in Wonderland, etc., etc., etc...

That should kill a few hours.

*Just be sure to stop at one of the information booths to pick up a map.  I finally picked up a map a few weeks ago - after years of visiting the Park...  I knew Central Park was big, but I had no idea it was/is that big!

NEW YORK - Playwright August Wilson, whose epic 10-play cycle chronicling the black experience in 20th-century America included such landmark dramas as “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” died Sunday of liver cancer, a family spokeswoman said. He was 60.

Wilson died at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, surrounded by his family, said Dena Levitin, Wilson’s personal assistant. The playwright had disclosed in late August that his illness was inoperable and he had only a few months to live.

“We’ve lost a great writer, I think the greatest writer that our generation has seen and I’ve lost a dear, dear friend and collaborator,” said Kenny Leon, who directed the Broadway production of “Gem of the Ocean” as well as Wilson’s most recent play, “Radio Golf,” which just concluded a run in Los Angeles.

Leon said Wilson’s work, “encompasses all the strength and power that theater has to offer. I feel an incredible sense of responsibility on walking how he would want us to walk and delivering his work.”

Wilson’s plays were big, often sprawling and poetic, dealing primarily with the effects of slavery on succeeding generations of black Americans: from turn-of-century characters who could remember the Civil War to a prosperous middle class at the end of the century who had forgotten the past.

Wilson’s astonishing creation, which took more than 20 years to complete, was remarkable not only for his commitment to a certain structure — one play for each decade — but for the quality of the writing. It was a unique achievement in American drama. Not even Eugene O’Neill, who authored the masterpiece “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” accomplished such a monumental effort.

During that time, Wilson received the best-play Tony Award for “Fences,” plus best-play Tony nominations for six of his other plays, the Pulitzer Prize for both “Fences” and “The Piano Lesson,” and a record seven New York Drama Critics’ Circle prizes.

Good morning!

Another cool autumn morning here, but it's slated to get into the 80s by afternoon, so summer is still stubbornly hanging on. The shorts can't go back into storage just yet, darn it all!

Always loved eating at Barrymoore's (I think I mentioned I haven't been there in many years despite many trips to NYC). The folks I usually go to NYC with love experimenting with new restaurants at every meal (there are so many to choose from), and they usually protest if one suggests a return to one we've been to before.

There is one exception - The Hour Glass which we manage to go to every year.

I have SO much to watch today before evening network TV. 2 1/2 hours of shows recorded last night that I was too busy to watch.
