At the time of SWEENEY TODD, all the magazines as the press were circulating the SUNSET BLVD rumors. . .still, if you listen to CAROUSEL's soundtrack recording, or as I did, listen to the dvd, you'll hear Marni singing Julie's lines. . .who can explain it, who can tell you why?  Maybe Shirley was unavailable for a re-loop, while Marni was available. . .

???

Isn't "Who can explain it, who can tell you why?"  from "Some Enchanted Evening" in South Pacific?

Matt H thanks.  I was sure “Commander in Chief” was a hit.  So far “How I Met Your Mother” makes us laugh.  Still haven’t seen Chris or “Criminal Minds”

What is the show that replaced “Trial by Jury”?

INCONCEIVABLE which lasted three episodes. Dick Wolf's new lawyer show (featuring young ADAs but will utilize the sets from TRIAL BY JURY) is called CONVICTION. It will not carry the LAW & ORDER brand name. I expecting it to go into that Friday at 10 time slot though there has been some talk that NBC would move LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT from Sunday to Friday. I don't think NBC will waste a new show against the juggernaut that is DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES when L&O:CI does just fine there (usually second in the time slot).

In any case...

Good Evening!

Back from Joseph.

DR Ron Pulliam - I was not able to chat with Mr. Cassidy earlier tonight since the backstage area was rearranged due to the weather - ???  So... But I did ask my friend Joel about the autographed photo, so...  I'll keep you posted.

Now, even Jose's getting confused by the whole story!
I don't think td's quotting the lyrics of the song! He's just "referring" them
rhetorictlycally, if I may say so that way! LOL!

Maybe Marni "looped" for Norma Desmond in ALW's version of "Sweeney Todd" as she sang "Younger Than Springtime".

Watched I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE tonight. FIne movie and the JANE EYRE steal was very obvious, but it was still atmospheric and enjoyable. When the TCM print wasn't damaged, it looked very good with rich, deep blacks and superb contrast and sharpness.

But, oh, that print! Scratches, spots, and flashing all over the place, always at times that would take me right out of the movie. Really very frustrating.

I also watched SMALLVILLE tonight. Wow! I didn't find the acting of the actor playing Aquaman that problematic (let's face it; the cast is not made up of Barrymores, and he fit right in with their level of performance), and he and Superboy made a dymanic team once they starting working together. Plus, his physique made Tom Wellig's look underdeveloped. Tom needs to hit the gym!

What a spectacular debut for him! And the ratings were up for SMALLVILLE, too, on Thursday night. I have a feeling a star was born. I wouldn't be at all surprised for him to make a return appearance, and even a spin-off might work.

It's all Jose's fault, anyway. . .but these posts tonight sure do have me laughing out loud.
. . .and "who can explain it," was merely me referencing another R&H show. . .
And Francois, you're simply, too too.
Now, I must get back to my chippendale dancing.

I finshed LOVELY TO LOOK AT tonight. I guess I had never paid that much attention to the climactic fashion show sequence before. Vincente Minnelli was brought in to direct it, and it does have a dynamism missing from much of the rest of the movie. Of course, Vincente stole from himself for many of the motifs for the fashion show. I saw elements from ZIEGFELD FOLLIES' "This Heart of Mine" and "Limehouse Blues."

I remember reading a Kathryn Grayson interview in GOOTA SING, GOTTA DANCE where she described her misery in filming this number. She was VERY dissatified with Adrian's design for her fashion show dress with her ample bosom encrusted with grape clusters making it look even more enormous. In the sequence, she keeps her hands up and over it as much as possible, and when Howard Keel joins her, she pulls him in close to further hide the bodice of her dress.

I have to say that though there are many terrific designs of his in the fashion show, I hated most of the clothes for the women in the rest of the movie. He uses these enormous bows and waist additions that make the women look gigantic.

Oh, did she dub Tippi Hedren's voice, too, in that movie.

I'm sure that was Marni chirping when those finches flew down the chimney.

Thank for the pics of Chip and Dale.  Mike Shayne will be pleased. Was it Chip or Dale who had the Achy Breaky Heart?
Of course Alvin, Theodore and Simon sang about it too.
