THE OFFICE from last week was another hilarious and poignant episode. Poor boss Michael can't keep a secret, and we find out one of the guys in the office is secretly gay. This show is constantly full of surprises.

If anyone is interested in getting the new broadway cast album THE COLOR PURPLE (that came out today) someone on ATC posted that it is onsale (maybe today only) at jr.com for $5.99.

If i didn't have the shipping and duty issues i would grab it.

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4076343

I just ordered two...it's cheap at twice the price! ;)

ICE STATION ZEBRA occupied the last 2 hours of my afternoon. The movie could have lost 10 or 15 minutes of footage with no loss of continuity, but it's still an entertaining movie.

The DVD looks simply wonderful for a film this old, and the repurposed Dolby Digital 5.1 is excellent, especially in the "breaking through the ice" sequences and in the second half once they arrive at the station with the howling wind, etc.

Yes, it's obviously studio sets (no frosty breath when folks talk), but you expect that with most films of that era. Didn't bother me a bit.

Thanks to all of you for the responses to my "white trash" definition query.

I keep hearing Mammy, in "Gone With the Wind", clucking:   "You ain't nothin' BUT trash!"

Good Afternoon!

A nice run.  A bit windy, but a nice run.  And I believe my pace is picking up.  I ran three miles in 26 minutes.  That's basically a personal best for me, and I wasn't even huffing and puffing that hard.

:)

And I made my usual stop at Whole Foods for a Jamba Juice - I tried their Coldbuster today (with a Protein Boost) - and I picked up a salad to consume later.

And I've stretched and cooled down, and now...

OH!

J&R has had first-day-of-release sales in the past.  So, I have a feeling that the $5.99 The Color Purple OCR is not a mistake.  I guess they're hoping that people will go ahead and buy something else while they're there.  -And, actually, I usually stock up at J&R since their regular prices are equivalent to Tower's and Virgin's sale prices.  And they tend to be well-stocked at all time in all categories of music and DVDs.

Just had a lovely, touching and funny phone call from Mr. Richard Sherman.  He just finished reading Rewind and absolutely loved it.  He thought the plot was most interesting and he said it made lots of things make sense to him, and it was just a wonderful call.

Yes, it was Hal.  And right after his stunning work on DON'T KNOCK THE TWIST!!

Buy that album DRMBARNUM.  I just bought - for $1.99 plus s/h, an album of the Trapp Family singers singing the songs from THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

This album claims that the Von Trapps took their musical mentor Father Franz Wasner with them when they went over the Alps, and he lived with them for the rest of his life.  That sure wasn't in the movie!

That is true....

Hollywood took liberties with the story....

Here is the link for for you

I just read where the UPN and WB networks will both close down this fall, to be replaced by a single new network that is part of a new partnership between CBS and Warner Brothers.

It will be interesting to see how that "marriage" goes.....
