If anyone is interested in getting the new broadway cast album THE COLOR PURPLE (that came out today) someone on ATC posted that it is onsale (maybe today only) at jr.com for $5.99.

If i didn't have the shipping and duty issues i would grab it.

From this we can infer that our beloved DR Elmore is a fan of foreign language and art house films, according to his viewing reports every Friday.

I watched a film called TOWER OF EVIL last night....hmmmmm

One of the stars was Mr John Hammill, a favorite of producer Herman (TARGET EARTH) Cohen.  Mr Hammill was a "physique" model and does some of what he does best in this 1972 film.  There is also an actor who wears the tightest pants I have ever seen in a movie.

Well, Mr Hamill was definitely a student of the casting couch school of drama, along with several others I know but won't name.

Here's a question for those of you willing to participate:

What does the term "white trash" mean/imply to you?

A higher life form than cheap Christmas trash.

I wonder if GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BARES is an art house film.

DR MBarnum, some "specialty" houses are not art cinema houses.

I forgot to mention (I think):
BABETTE'S FEAST
MIRACLE IN MILAN with the flying bicycles
NIGHTS OF CABIRIA

I hated, hated, hated LA STRADA!

DR Ron Pulliam - Seriously(?), I've always thought "white trash" had a Southern implication to it.  Basically uneducated.  Basically a derogatory term.  I don't think I really heard the term until I started school in Richmond.

However, I have noticed that it has been recently applied to someone who flaunts their lack of education, lack of modesty, lack of "general style", and garners publicity and money from their "efforts".  -And sometimes, these people actually do have a decent amount of education, modesty and style, and they're just putting on an act in order to garner publicity and make money.

The characters in "Tobacco Road" are white trash, probably in "Baby Doll" as well.

Now, DRRLP - in and of themselves these items don't point to any particular cultural group:

Nascar memorabilia
Garth Brooks CD box sets
Dress jeans for funerals and weddings
Confederate Flags
A non-running car in the front yard
No screen door on the trailer
Your kids wear only Pampers or Luvs to the WalMart

As I say, individually they don't mean anything....but if you add them all up, said person is probably white trash.

Although DRPENNYO's post is correct, it has nothing to do with income or social position.

Ya know, sometimes something said on a TV show pops into my head, and still makes me laugh:

CHEERS....at Woody's wedding.  Woody comes running into the kitchen where we are spending TOO MUCH time dealing with boring Sam's problems.

WOODY:  Quick!  Where can I find a plunger?!!

SAM:  Are you having trouble in the bathroom?

WOODY:  No...no...no.  My uncle left his wooden leg on the bus, and there's gonna be dancing!!

Some times a toilet or sink in the yard.

It's a state of mind, although poor white trash does imply economic poverty as well.

Last night's "Surface":

NO SPOILER!!

Did I understand correctly at the end that the series has only two more episodes?

Two or three more episodes and then the series is history. After the Winter Olympics, NBC is putting the game show DEAL OR NO DEAL into that time slot. I do not think it is on NBC's short list for renewal for next season.

(They oughta have DR CEP come and talk about his Hercules movie! Or have BK come and talk about Spaceship!)

I didn't get wowed by COURTING ALEX. Oh, the actors are all very attractive and delivered their lines well. I just found it very predictable and not especially funny. I felt bad for the sweet guy at the office (Steve?) who has a crush on Alex. Nice guys finish last, it looks like.
