"Breakback Mountain" from the short story by Anne (Shipping News) Proulx. Well written tragic love story. Could be a great movie.

I loved the individual musical signatures all the characters had. Granny was a few down-home measures....Elly Mae had a sweet light string signature....and Miss Jane at the bank had a great be-bop bass guitar riff....

I have a funny Rebozo story to tell. Maybe you had to be there but here goes. When we were nineteen, before we were married, Keith was at work and I was home in my apartment. Our best friend Ricky, a guy, and I decided to go to Rebozo for dinner. After dinner Ricky went home and Keith stopped at my place wanting to go to Rebozo’s for a late dinner. So off we go. Of course Keith knew I had just been there. We sat down and I mentioned I was in the exact seat, at the exact table I had been sitting at an hour before. Up walks the exact same waitress, looks at us and obviously isn’t sure how to react. When Keith and I busted up laughing and explained it was okay this wonderful look of relief washed across her face.

I always go to Larry Edmund's Book and Movie poster store when I go to Hollywood Blvd, so it would be nice to have even more stores of that sort...nice places to eat would be good, and the movie houses as you mentioned would be a must...most of the shops there are very tacky. I really didn't feel unsafe there, but there were some unsavory characters about...however, the tourists outnumbered them!

And just so JRand53 knows, I looked and looked for any sign of Frances Farmer's footprints or star...but no luck! I did take some photos of others which I may post this weekend if I remember...also shots of my buddy Ron and I at Muscle Beach and at Bette Davis' tomb.

There was (and perhaps still is) a terrific cinema revival house in New York on the west side of Broadway in the upper 70's. (I'm pretty sure it was the upper 70's.) I went there a thousand times, but for the life of me I cannot remember the name. (I guess that's what happens when you turn 20,000.) They showed all--and I mean ALL--the great classics on an AB, BC, CD... schedule. And the place was always packed. (Of course, this was before home video.)

Plop that programming into one of the dark movie palaces on Hollywood Boulevard or on Broadway in downtown L.A. and I'm there!

I think you may be referring to the old Thalia. It's now part of "Symphony Space" and called the Leonard Nimoy. I think they still show revivals and esoteric films, but DVDs and cable have pretty much killed off the old style revival house. Film Forum still devotes one of its three screens to revivals, but that's about it.

There is a difference between a classy chain store like Borders and a Red Lobster with a giant lobster hanging from it or a McDonald's with enough neon for the Vegas strip. That's part of Times Square 2004!

As for the waitress, her expression really was priceless. This best friend and I were often mistaken for a “couple” and there is never any doubt when I’m with Keith that we are together.

RedFin Blues, here in the 'burgh, makes the best fish tacos I have ever had! ! !
I'm trying to hook RedFin up with Open Stage Theater, promotionally speaking, since they are only about three to five minutes apart! Something along the lines of show your theater ticket, get a free drink sorta of thing. . .

Any suggestions for how to get a top-notch restaurant and a first-class theater company together, promotion-wise?

Mexican food - Mmmm, just so yummy. I love most all of it, except enchiladas. Not that I dislike enchiladas, they'd just never be my Mexican cuisine of choice. The sauce just isn't to my taste.
Hard to beat some good steak fajitas... or a good chimichanga... or anything with guacamole (homemade being simply divoon, of course). I have a feeling I'll be making some chicken soft tacos for dinner tonight (won't require a trip to the grocery store for those).

I still find it difficult to believe that all DVD players in the States are not Multizone as VCRs and DVDs have been here. Still I guess that is why you are so rapidly developing into a third world country.
As A God Michael you should be able to have any zone you wish. Congratulations and welcome.

I wholeheartedly agree about keeping out the tacky chains like Red Lobster, and limiting the access to the more exclusive and upscale restaurants... like, Applebee's!
