QUESTIONS, I'VE GOT QUESTIONS!

1.  Favorite HITCHCOCK HEROINE?  Why?
2.  Hammer HORROR or Universal HORROR?  Why?
3.  LUGOSI OR KARLOFF - who is the KING OF HORROR?
4.  CUSHING OR LEE? Who is the PRINCE OF HORROR?

1.  Kim Novak (and Kim Novak) in Vertigo.  Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous, she was also a terrific actress.  And it doesn't hurt that Vertigo is in fact my favorite film.  Ever.

2.  Universal.  For two reasons: Karloff and Lugosi.  Two more reasons: James Whale and Karl Freund.  My favorite Universal Horror flick: The Mummy.  Scared the beejeezus outta me when I was a wee lad.

3.  Boris Karloff.  Don't get me wrong, I love Bela, too.  But Karloff (at least in my humble opinion) was by far a better actor and had incredible screen presence.  Lugosi was a better actor than many folks give him credit for, but his persona was mostly based on presence.

4.  Peter Cushing.  Again, not to slight Lee by any stretch of the imagination.  You couldn't loose with both of them together on-screen, though.  (In all honesty, though, I like Vincent Price better than either of them.)

And just so JRand53 knows, I looked and looked for any sign of Frances Farmer's footprints or star...but no luck! I did take some photos of others which I may post this weekend if I remember...also shots of my buddy Ron and I at Muscle Beach and at Bette Davis' tomb.

I see that BK has come up with some surefire incentives for getting several of us back to this site for the entire weekend!

I have seen this question in many celebrity interviews.  If you could play one role of the opposite gender what would it be?

Any desire I may have had to portray a member of the opposite gender was crushed when I actually did it.  I was cast as Solange LeMercier in Genet's The Maids.  In fact, all of the roles in the play were ladies, portrayed by gentlemen.  When dress rehearsals approached, I became painfully aware of the sadistic nature of the young ladies in the costume/design shop.

The get-ups they decked us out in weren't just uncomfortable, they were torturous.  And we dealt with the pain and discomfort for hour upon hour...but I gotta admit, when the curtain finally rose, the three of us looked FABULOUS!

I swear, I cannot fathom how women (and crossdressers, too, I guess) put up with those goddamn high heels.  And the corset?  Forget it!

And you know DRTD - your character doesn't really STEAL the discovery - THEY never sent the telegram.  What else could he do?  LOL...can you tell which part I would probably play as well?

You are correct. She was Robert Taylor's beard for years. (and vice versa)

Jay: Are you talking about the Thalia?

No.  The Thalia was just off Broadway in the 90's.  The theatre I mentioned was definitely on Broadway.

For a long time, I have wanted to play the Barbara Harris/Barbra Streisand part of Daisy (Davey?) in On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.  If the the John Cullum/Yves Montand doctor truly falls in love with Melinda, then why can't Melinda have been reincarnated into a man?  The rest of the show might have to be changed...I don't know about the fiancé part.  Would it be as effective if Davey is gay and has a boyfriend or is straight and has a girlfriend?  Actually, what I've wanted to do is cut all the songs and the rest of the cast and make it just a two person play for the doctor and Daisy/Davey.  Not that I don't like any of the songs...I do...but I think that it would focus on the specific relationships between the doctor and Daisy and the doctor and Melinda.  And be much more of a challange for both actors to carry it off.

I don't know from Horror stuff, so I'll leave that alone.  As for Mexican food, I Love Taco Bell and Taco Del Mar.  I'm not too picky in that respect, except no shredded beef...ick.

Funny you should write this. But I read last fall that some company is doing a revivasl where the Daisy is a man!!

Ah, I think we can guess that a lot of Hainsies and Kimlets will be craving mexican food tonight. I feel like I need chicken enchiladas now :(

I didn't get a chance to go to Taco Del Mar for lunch.  I'm going to go for dinner.  And Jennifer, Taco Del Mar's specialty is Fish Tacos.  I've never had one, but they look good...sorta.  I just don't know about eating fish sticks on a taco, though.  Sounds kinda fishy. ;)  REMEMBER:  no groaning here at HHW! ;D

For the other "questions" of the day.
Kim Novak Kim Novak and Kim Novak. No-one needs a reason for Kim Novak.
Hammer: I guess because they were more likely to be seen in OZ.
I did not know anything about Whale until I saw the wonderful "Gods and Monsters".

I think despite the Hammer preference, Boris - the voice.
Robin: Wearing a corset and high heels sounds like a horror movie to me. People do it seems suffer for their art.

I'm glad they're going ahead with BAREBACK MOUNTAIN, but I suspect it'll be very tame in the lovemaking department. Not that I would expect porn, of course, but I don't expect there will be anything more suggestive than what was shown in MAKING LOVE over twenty years ago.

Here's what I'd like to see on Hollywood Boulevard:

A casting office.  A place where anyone and everyone can go in and, for a processing fee, have a couple of head shots taken and hand in a resume.

And it wouldn't matter where you are from...they shoot commercials and TV shows all over the place.  So if they needed a look or a type or an extra, somebody could contact this office that they'd like to see some faces from Pocatello, Idaho, or thereabouts, and that office would send out a call.  Or they could alert folks who register with them of casting opportunities in their regions and let them know the offices to call to sign up.

It would be a lot of fun if you could do something like this while visiting in Hollywood. You probably would never get a call, but the possibility could exist.

Heck, I was an extra in "F.I.S.T."   A local casting office placed a call to the military seeking as many men as would be interested in being in a scene.  We stood around outside the Senate office building all day on a Saturday.  The shot took about 30 minutes.  Stallone runs down the steps of the office building and jumps onto the top of a taxi cab.  It's a freeze-frame in the movie....and I can be seen just over his right shoulder.  I still have the colorful flannel shirt I wore in the scene.  It was fun.  Paid $35 in 1977.

I hear there is going to be a movie about gay cowboys directed by Ange Lee. I think it is going to be called something like Bareback Mountain. A double edged title if I ever heard one.

I don't think anyone else has commented on this:
"Breakback Mountain" from the short story by Anne (Shipping News) Proulx. Well written tragic love story. Could be a great movie.

According to imdb.com, the movie is called  Brokeback Mountain and there's a note (B-flat) in the IMDb listing:  Since this project is categorized as being in production, the data is subject to change or could be removed completely.

I still find it difficult to believe that all DVD players in the States are not Multizone as VCRs and DVDs have been here. Still I guess that is why you are so rapidly developing into a third world country.
As A God Michael you should be able to have any zone you wish. Congratulations and welcome.
Any casting suggestions for "Breakback Mountain"?

Brokeback Mountain casting news

Aussie heartthrob Heath Ledger ("A Knight's Tale", "The Order) and "Donnie Darko" himself Jake Gyllenhaal have scored the leading roles of a rodeo cowboy and a ranch hand respectively, who meet in the 60's and forge a lifelong connection despite intolerance from others and themselves, until it all ends tragically.

If the project sounds familiar it should, Director Gus Van Sant and producer Scott Rudin were developing it a few years back with the hope of Matt Damon & Ben Affleck starring, but then put the project in turnaround where it was picked up by Focus who have gone with Lee, Ledger and Gyllenhaal

I played Greta in BENT in 1995, and I had to wear high heels for the first time in my life. Thank goodness I was a dancer because the costumer put me in spiked heels, and I didn't get them until the final dress rehearsal. I had like twenty minutes to get used to them, but surprisingly, I did fine with them. Of course, Greta only has that song followed by a single scene, so it's not like I had to wear them for hours either.

Did you get to keep the costume after the play ended?

I go back to my post of yesterday, Seasaw with all three males leads being gay.  Well, the Tommy Tune role is already gay, you just need to change Gittel's sex to male.  Jerry would be bisexual with a wife, but dating Gittel / Gil.

No, and why would I want to? (I've never gotten to keep a costume of any show I've ever done unless I provided it myself.)

With Heath Ledger playing the lead, we will be lucky if his people allow a handshake, let alone a kiss.  Hmm, I think Bareback Mountain, as a name, might be a better draw.

This is pretty much my chicken enchilada recipe:

chicken breast cut into small pieces
1 onion, chopped (optional)
sour cream
shredded cheese
salsa
refried beans
flour tortillas

1  Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2  In a medium, non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook chicken until no longer pink and juices run clear. Drain excess fat. Cube the chicken and return it to the skillet. Add the onion, sour cream, Cheddar cheese,  salsa and refried beans.  Heat until cheese melts.

Roll even amounts of the mixture in the tortillas. Arrange in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover with salsa sauce and cheese. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven 30 minutes.  But you this could vary (it will be fine if you leave it in longer).

So good.

I am totally surprised that we have no Taco Bells in Montreal. I wonder if they have them in Toronto?

Canadians like Mexican food. Please bring us  Taco bell.

I have some photos somewhere around here. I do not make a pretty woman. However, I tried to do pretty makeup, and looking back on it, if I were doing it now, I would have gone for very garish, overdone makeup to match Greta's very brittle and acerbic character. As I said, it was my first (and only) time in drag, and neither the director nor anyone else offered any suggestions about how they wanted me done up.
