I have some kind of a Sony. But I don't recommend it. The lens is too sensitive. The lens has burn marks on it from taking outside photos.

Well, unfortunately, the Brantley review of MAME was not a "move this show to New York" kind of review, but that gives even more reason for the New Yorkers to get to DC to see the show, if that makes any sense.

I'm surprised that a show estimated to cost $5-million opted to open itself to the critics after only three preview performances, since the critics were apparently there Wed. evening, at the fourth preview if I'm counting correctly.

Tried to expand my stay at the Watergate on June 23rd to 24th an extra day, to take into account seeing ASSASSINS at the Signature near D.C. on the 24th evening, and found that the room that's $149 on the 23rd zooms up to $289 on the 24th.

There must be soemthing going on in D.C. starting on June 24th evening, since the guy on the phone was a little surprised that the rate would go up for the weekend from Friday to Saturday.

One of our group found a reasonable rate at a hotel five blocks from the Watergate, though. Probably not as nice a hotel, but it runs $179, which seems reasonable for D.C. on a weekend.

So we could conceivably stay at the Watergate Friday night, bring our bags over to the other hotel before seeing MAME, say hello to the people in MAME that we want to say hello to, then go the second hotel and check in before heading out to Arlington for ASSASSINS.

It's the Kennedy Center. Most shows there have very short preview periods, which I'm guessing is a result of all the touring shows that come through there. Most of the tours get one or two "previews" before the reviews come out.

I'm also guessing that since it's a limited five and a half week run, they wanted to have the show officially open for a good chunk of that time.

I'd go ahead and ask to speak to a manager/supervisor to see if they could work out a better rate for you for your final night.

*And hotel rates in DC usually tend to go up on the weekends during the summer due to the number of tourists coming into town.

Jose - Is it unusual for the Kennedy Center shows to invite Brantley so early? Is that what they did during the Sondheim celebration, if you remember such things?

There's no bag check at the Kennedy Center... Well, maybe if you tip the Coat Check clerk "nicely"... Or, if you have friends in the show, just ask them to hold it backstage for you. -I've done that before.

*Actually, the Watergate should be able to hold your bags for you at the Front Desk.

*And... Oohh... The Doubletree!... Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies! And, apparently, they now offer other varieties of cookies if you ask.

We had reviewers in very early during the Sondheim Celebration since each show only ran 14-18 performances. I think some were even there at the first performance of some of the shows in the series.

) was that the reservationist at the Watergate said something to the effcet that they're generally a weekday-oriented hotel so they usually have deals on the weekend (and in fact, we got a great deal for the Friday night, which we booked a while ago before we decided to add seeing ASSASSINS to the trip). He was surprised that it went up so much from Friday to Saturday.
