Otto and I just got through watching Disney's "Song of the South" - one of the films from the Disney canon that has yet to have a US release on video or DVD. (this DVD was an eBay purchase and definatly a bootleg that was transfered from lasar disk, and the transfer was pretty good!) Some say it's content, Disney says it's dated and people would be offended by the type of language that is used by African Americans in the South at that time. Ever been to Oakland or listened to rap? It still exists. The message of this film is immense. Not to mention the history it portrays. I should try and work it into my classes next year.

I do have to get a new pair of jogging shoes, no question.  Mine are falling apart.

Almost through watching Deceit - he fixed the biggest prob, which was the darkness of the image - it now matches what I had coming out of the editing room.  I was able to avoid boredom whilst proofing by turning on the commentary track, which is most amusing.  I'm glad I did, though, because the actual sound of the show is too loud and fights the commentary the whole time.  So, he'll have to lower that sound and then it's off to the pressing plant.

I'm sure many DRs will like this site... James and I walked by the actual "house" this past weekend.  The cat bios are hysterical.

MEOW MIX HOUSE

Oh, my gosh! It is a reality show for cats (on THE ANIMAL PLANET network)! I am setting my DVR for it!!

I think there are some cat loving DRs that will like this show!

You'd never get away with it in a public school! The PC crowd insists that any ante-bellum depiction of the south include slave beatings and lynchings. Any depiction of a non-satanic plantation owner or a happy black is verboten!

PS Just bought a copy of a re-worked version of my favorite childhood book, now titled "Sam and the Tigers". The illustrations are close to the originals; although our heroes complexion has lightened over time, his blue pants, red coat and green umbrella are still intact. The story still ends happily ever-after with pancakes covered in tiger-butter.

Yesterday Rodzinski advised bk: One oughtn't to humor "bore detector" by acknowledging his trollish presence.

Perhaps this art would help:

For Dan the Man:

Coming to the Academy in January:

Matthew Bournes "Edward Scissorhands"

With both Spamalot and Pippin the the mix, we might just buy season tickets to "Broadway at the Academy".

DerB sounds like what Vixdad calls "the New York Mentality" has made its way westward.

Vixdad  says in New York its not enough for one to win, the other guy has to demonstrably lose!!

I think all stalkers should be acknowledged with the following line: KISS MY ASS.

Back from a few errands - finally got Valley of the Dolls, and the recalled DVD of Boomerang, so I'm all set for viewing this evening.  Cannot wait to see the anamorphic Dolls.

Not sure what I want to do about the food situation yet.

I read about Eminem as Palladin yesterday and just rolled my eyes. After the debacle of THE WILD WILD WEST, I just can't believe any studio would be foolhardy enough to sink millions into a western with anyone but maybe Mel Gibson or George Clooney.

I can't think of a worse choice for Palladin than Eminem.

I finished CABIN IN THE SKY when I got in from lunch. Boy, was I surprised! For some reason, I thought it ended with Joe and Petunia walking toward heaven. I did not remember at all the last sequence of Joe waking up from his dream. What a nice surprise!

The laserdiscs I won on Ebay finally arrived today (from Australia). I put in the 1954 ROSE MARIE. I think MGM cheated a little on the image for this transfer; it looks more like 2.35:1 instead of 2.55:1, but I was delighted with the colorful and sharp Eastmancolor image, and there are only minimal speckles and dirt. It's Dolby surround stereo, too, so Howard Keel's booming baritone sounded wonderful. I only got the first side watched, so the second hour of it I'll watch later this afternoon or early evening.

Back from a long lunch (whenever there are more than 4 people, the lunches take longer and longer...).

My first visit to the dim sum place in months and months.

Rather good...and enough to last me a while.

Pretty nice day here in Oakland.

By the time TPunk gets into bathing suit shape and comes back out here, it'll probably be either too hot or freezing cold.

My question for Ask HHW Day:

I need a "Vision Statement" to be put on the ballot for the position of clerk for the southwest district of my church denomination. Can anyone help me come up with one?

Here is a good website telling about the sorts of things a vision statement should include. If you want to write one and pm it to me, I'd be happy to look it over.

As MattH mentioned earlier, I also enjoyed Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.  And as Rodzinski mentioned, Val Kilmer's character Gay Parry was a favorite.

My question for Ask HHW day is- As the current trends in musical theater are "jukebox musicals" and "movie musicals" what do folks think the next trends will be?

Oh and one more question- isn't the purpose of air-conditioning to make people more comfortable in extremely warm weather?  And if so, than why is it always jacked up so high that I must wear a sweater and shiver?

I have to admit, Fernando Lamas looks very good in deerskin in ROSE MARIE, much better than the tuxes he looks squeezed into in RICH, YOUNG, AND PRETTY.
