Jennifer Holliday was terrific in a recurring role on "Ally McBeal". The was a choir director who had been in a relationship with the pastor, got spurned in favor of a younger woman also in the choir. Holliday would feature hymns that directed her anger at him or the other woman. The pastor hired the lawyers to get her to cease and desist (as he didn't dare fire her lest he get sued for obvious reasons).
In one of the show's very best (among many great) episodes...during a funeral for a man whose last wish was to have it known that he despised people of diminutive stature, Holliday led the choir...with the congregation joining in jubilantly...in a rousing rendition of Randy Newman's "Short People.'
It was fabulous.
For some reason not given at IMDb, Ms. Holliday has not appeared on TV or in film since 2001.
