I'm very disorganized with all the piled-up DVDs - tomorrow shall be spent sorting them out so I can at least find things.

Out here, if you call the gas company and say anything about a gas leak, they'll have someone there in less than an hour. And they don't charge.

You don't have to worry about carbon monoxide if the heater doesn't work. Carbon monoxide is what you get from a furnace that works but improperly.

Doesn't covering up for/hiding from the press present a negative image?

Not in this case.  I can't explain why without saying things I can't talk about, so you'll just have to believe me

Hutch (but no Starsky) and his assistant, from Jet Heating, called and said the temp patch on the leaky gas heater was done and it was up and running.

I asked how it could be running when it had been turned off from inside the house...and they had no access to the inside of the house.

So I drove home and turned the thermostat on. Nothing. They had hooked something up wrong.

They crawled back under the house and started over while I waited ...I playing with Bosco and then doing the dishes.

I have heat now. Don't know whether my house will not blow up...but time will tell.

I am going to have the gas company come out and double check it just to make me feel better...but quite frankly I am terrified to even use this darn gas heater.

:o And I thought I had problems with a busted pipe!

I may watch a DVD I ordered for my mother. It's a Biography on R.H. Macy, one of my ancestors.

MBarnum, if you're concerned, call the gas company again!   It's their job to check on this sort of thing and they don't want to deal with a house that explodes.

Interesting, my mother said their furnace went out today and the first "Temporary fix" didn't work, so they had to have it "temporarily fixed" again

I need to wrap packages tonight. I think I have all my shopping done and doing the wrapping may be the best way to figure that out.  I do need a silly gift for a friend I exchange silly gifts with.   I'm really glad I'm not going to my parents' house until Sunday. I have all day tomorrow to do laundry, clean the house, do some last minute shopping and go to a party in the evening at a friend's house I've been dying to see (the house, that is).   I'm not going to stay there long. I have to get up early Sunday and hit the road...

I'm determined to get to 22,000 posts before the end of the year.

I don't really think that that's going to be a problem. ;)

A reasonable request.

How about this case?:

Associated Press
Quote
Texas Teen Fights Removal of Bullet From His Forehead
Friday , December 22, 2006

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — In the middle of Joshua Bush's forehead, two inches above his eyes, lies the evidence that prosecutors say could send the teenager to prison for attempted murder: a 9 mm bullet, lodged just under the skin.
Prosecutors say it will prove that Bush, 17, tried to kill the owner of a used-car lot after a robbery in July. And they have obtained a search warrant to extract the slug.

But Bush and his lawyer are fighting the removal, in a legal and medical oddity that raises questions about patient privacy and how far the government can go to solve crimes without running afoul of the constitutional protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

A judge took the unusual step of issuing a search warrant to retrieve the bullet from Bush's head in October. But a Beaumont doctor determined that small pieces of bone were growing around the slug, and he did not have the proper tools in the emergency room to do it. The doctor said that removal would require surgery under general anesthesia and that no operating rooms were available.

All sides agree that removing the bullet would not be life-threatening.

Excuse me? Since when is going under general anesthesia not life threatening?

My prior service as a Navy Trial Counsel and confessed supporter of most wireless wiretaps and many parts of the Patriot Act should support my credentials as "Tough On Criminals" - but: surely the right to search and seizure stops where the scalpel under general anesthesia begins!

Perhaps if the object were a capsule containing the location of a hidden atomic device or killer-gas cylinder fused for detonation, I would agree; but this is just a case of the DA looking for evidence to ramp up a robbery charge to attempted murder (where the victim was uninjured).

Sign me Mr. Softie

This DA is a moron, and the whole things smacks of the Tiwana Brawley embarassment of the 1980s.  I hope the DA is dismissed when his term iis up for renewal.

He just got re-elected so it will be a while!
