Will we never get to page nine?  You'd think it was a Sunday or something.

Sure.

Back from a drive - terrible allergies today.  I had a last-minute invite to see Twelve Angry Men this evening at the Ahmanson with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, so I'll be meeting him for some dinner at six and then the show.

I've been pushing to get Mr. Spirtas for the cabaret series I subscribe to at the Crest Theater in Delray Beach. I am friendly with the producer. He has heard about him and I gave him a copy of the cd and DVD in hoping that he will hire him for a future season.

My weekends are my time off from work but I keep myself busy. Next weekend I am going to Key West for the first time, if I can book a hotel room.

Tonight they said something slightly disturbing. It went something like this, "rumor has it sally field is dating one of her co-stars (david something)".   Then they flashed a picture of the actor who plays her youngest child (justin).

OMG!  Is this true.  I guess she is 60+ and he plays younger than he is (i think there is a 30+ yr difference).  The part that sort of freaked me out is that he plays her son. Does anybody else find that weird?

Not weird to me at all. And it's not the first time it's happened. Greer Garson ended up marrying the guy who played her son (Richard Ney) in MRS. MINIVER after the picture was finished shooting.

And of course, Laurence Olivier married Joan Plowright who played his daughter in THE ENTERTAINER. Of course, that was a much older man with a young woman, but I guess few would find that odd.

This is horrifying news to me...an actor who played the father in CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.

I began my evening finishing the last 2/3 of MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. Brilliant film that grows richer and more touching every time I watch it. The exquisitie lighting in this film is among the best ever done. And the transfer does look stunningly good.

Kevin Spirtas in TWELVE ANGRY MEN...hmmmm...

Is his last name pronounced as in Spur...or as in Spear?

DR FJL - thanks for reminding me of the ancestors of my comment.

I am also reminded of Dick Cavett's introduction for Miss Jayne Mansfield written for Johnny Carson:

"And here they are, Jayne Mansfield."

RE: Mary Poppins - I saw the Broadway production a couple of weeks ago, and liked it.  I didn't love it, but I liked it.  The "Jolly Holiday" number is better scene from "the front", rather than from someone illegal bootleg copy from a cheap(er) balcony seat.  I think the only real quibble I had was with the "Feed the Birds" sequence - I was hoping for a more imaginative treatment.  -Oh, and then there was the "Temper, Temper".  But again, I liked the production a lot.

And that "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" number truly is amazing.  *A friend of mine is a "swing" in the show, and I truly don't her - she had to learn eight different tracks for that number alone.  That's a LOT of hand movements!

I had planned on watching maybe another episode of THE WILD WILD WEST, but I noticed there was another John Fricke commentary for ST. LOUIS that I know I've listened to but couldn't remember much about, so I started that and began rewatching the film while listening to the commentary. I got about halfway through the movie again.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES started off a little slowly for me, but by the end, it had become a very entertaining episode with love relationships ever in flux. Tom was really, really getting on my last nerve this week.

Nice to see the ever-handsome Jason Gedrick join the cast, I hope for a long time.

I ordered the two Scissor Sisters CD's and added ON MOONLIGHT BAY and BY THE LIGHT OF THE SILVERY MOON dvd's!  I really enjoy those two movies.  What casts!

Doris and Gordon, Rosemary DeCamp and Leon Ames, Billy Gray and Mary Wickes.

Leon Ames: (as the third person to open the oven):  What time do you think the turkey will be done, Stella?

Mary Wickes: (as the housekeeper)  I don't know, I've never cooked one with the over door open before.

Loved game night on BROTHERS & SISTERS. I did know the answer to the last trivia question and was just gritting my teeth. Of course, I taught ROMEO & JULIET every year but one during my 30-year teaching career, so it would have been a bit odd for me not to have known it.

Poor Kevin's blind date; what an unqualified disaster. Of course, I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of the senator's brother.

I'm watching the Doris films in the box in the order they were made. ON MOONLIGHT BAY comes next in the box, and I'm hoping the Technicolor will look as good as it did in MY DREAM IS YOURS.

The Lennon Sisters certainly made a little talent go a LONG way!

And I will never forget their reaction to Paul Lynde on the Hollywood Squares....  Lynde in the center and two Lennons on either side.

Peter Marshall:  Paul, what is the proper way for a girl to cross her legs, at the ankle or at the knee?

Paul Lynde:  Neither, if she wants to get anywhere in show business.

And all Four Lennon Sisters were still laughing after the commercial break.   ;D

My fingers are crossed.  BAY and MOON were the first two films I remember seeing Doris in on late night television...and I loved her...and of course I had read the stories they were based on....

So I'll have five hours of shows recorded tonight to watch tomorrow and the next day. I hope to be able to fit another Doris musical somewhere in the midst of some of those.

I've got on audio tape, Doris Day's radio show which she had after ON MOONLIGHT BAY was released. Jack Smith was one of the guest stars on the show. Of course, when it came time to sing songs from the movie, they just played the recordings Doris had made and released with him.
