DR JoseSPiano - those are all good.  I think DR Matthew probably had in mind:

...then to a fitting.

Actually, DR Jose, I'm recording each part into a 4 track mini disc player.  Keeping it in time with each track has proven to be a challenge.  Time to drag out the metronome and see if that helps.

I remember recording one part of Milhaud's "Scaramouche", so that I could practice the other part on my own.  Who knew I played with so much rubato?  ;)

I guess I just have A Chorus Line on the brain... I just got booked for a few more performances, as well as some day rehearsals.  :)

-Guess I'll be getting some practice time in over the next couple of days.

My husband Jayson once tried to record a 4 part Tallis motet, singing each of the voices himself.  He even added a cathedral-like reverb effect!  But you're right; without a click track, it's incredibly difficult to keep things together...

Hmm.. With all this French talk, I'm suddenly in the mood to read a few chapters out of Pierre Bernac's "Interpretation of French Song"... And maybe even Charles Panzera's book too.

Or maybe I'll just listen to Elly Ameling and Gerard Souzay a bit later.

Can you do the fandango? (a Queen reference...the band, that is...)

Well, I think I've tripped the light fandango.  Well, at least tripped while trying to do the fandango.

The French title of You Must Believe In Spring is Chanson de (or du) Maxence - it's from Young Girls of Rochefort and its film lyric has nothing to do with the Bergman's lyric.

Just was able to tell a client that their tax bill is $3,000 less than the state revenue people asked for in their notice.  That felt good.

I had that happen once, after I started freelancing. I was audited and it said I owed a lot more than I thought I did. I used a professional accountant to deal with it and have always worked with her ever since.

The correct amount due NEVER turns out to be more than the amount the govt. bills the client.  The govt. tends to err on the side of over-billing, never under-billing, at least in my experience.

TOD/WOD:  I have amative feelings for the following:

* Duruflé: Requiem
* Fauré: Cantique de Jean Racine
* the piano music of Satie
* Jacques Brel: Les désespérés [Desperate Ones]
* Ravel:
     Piano Concerto in G
     String Quartet in F
     Le Tombeau de Couperin
     Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
     'Mother Goose' suite

What he said.   ;D  Plus the Faure Pavane.

Funny but true department:  I once went to a bar to audition and sat down at the piano.  I played a Gmaj7 just to check out the action, at which point the bartender said (I kid you not), "Sounds too much like Erik Satie," so I stood up and left and went home and wrote a song called "Sounds Too Much Like Erik Satie."  Still makes me laugh.

Yes, of course, Michel Legrand, how could I forget him?  How many of you know his sister Christiane was one of the Swingle Singers?  (Probably all of you, you know it alls  ;)  ).  For those who love Michel & Brasilian music (a sublime combination), there are several treasures to be had:  Michel's tribute to the great Brasilian pianist Luiz Eca, a wonderful duet album with Michel and Paulo Castro-Neves, and Christiane's somewhat less wonderful, but still enjoyable, album of Brasilian tunes sung in French.

Even funnier but true department:  just had a short-lived gig at a little restaurant that wanted to try live music.  Usually you get booted from these gigs because nobody comes and it doesn't pay for them to have music.  Well, guess what?  This place cancelled after two weeks because too many people were coming and no one on staff wanted to stay later than 9 p.m.  Can you believe it?
