I hate it when people take months to deposit or cash checks.  I've actually taken my business elsewhere when people let a large check sit for over two months after I asked them to cash it as soon as possible.

Yes, I'm pretty annoyed with the people who held this check for over two months.  I mean, WHY?  How stupid are they?  And it causes such problems - this was a close call that happened to work out okay, but might not have if it had been a few weeks down the line.  I gotta tell you.

I spent a good portion of the evening watching DRAGON SEED. I had never seen this film, and I must say I did get very involved with it despite all the Caucasians playing Chinese. I'd never read the Pearl Buck novel it was based on, so I don't know how faithful it was to the book. Since it's almost 2 1/2 hours long, I'm not sure it would have been a big hit in 1944, but I did enjoy it.

Beautiful, lush transfer, too, with some of the best black and white representations this side of CITIZEN KANE. Really looked spectacular, and because it was one of many films in this Hepburn set, I doubt much clean-up was done on it at all. The print they used was just in wonderful shape, I guess.

Unless it was just an oversight, I can't imagine not cashing a check as soon as I get it (or within a few days). I need the money! Don't most people?

After finishing DRAGON SEED, I watched one of the special features on the disc, an MGM publicity reel trumpeting its slate of 1944 releases and celebrating its 20 year history going back to THE BIG PARADE and HE WHO GETS SLAPPED.

Then they presented an array of their top box-office stars. Then there was an array of what they called "Stars of Tomorrow," among them June Allyson and Donna Reed.

They ended the reel with a salute to ther stars that were then currently in the service, among them James Stewart, Clark Gable, Robert Montgomery, and Robert Taylor.

I'll be seeing Richard and Tom over the weekend (at the Monster Bash); this week I'll be seeing Jason Graae, Shirley Jones, Matt Bogart and his lovely wife, Jessica.

Wishing a change of pace after the heavy drama of DRAGON SEED, I turned to season two of GREY'S ANATOMY. Not that there wasn't heavy drama in the three episodes I rewatched, but as always they were tempered with lighter moments, one of the reasons I love the show so much.

Why?  The YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN sets won't be done in Seattle until September.

And anyone in Seattle who didn't go to see our film missed a GREAT double bill!

I'm sorry, edi, but I didn't watch THE CLOSER last night.  It is past my bedtime.  Of course, I am in that over 55 demographic that nobody cares about anyway.

I know. I always resent it when I hear that I am outside of their demographic. I mean...I'm not retired; if I had kids they would be out of the house, so I would have plenty of disposable income. I have never understood that!

Don't worry, there will be a marathon probably at the end of the season. And there's always Tivo/VCRs.

THE APPLE is probably one of my most watched dvds; it's right up there with SHOCK TREATMENT (the surreal sequel to ROCKY HORROR).
