So...

Once again, thanks for the Travel Vibes.

Of course, I think because I had mentioned that I had never really had a delay with Amtrak that that was why my train was delayed this morning. ;

But it was just an hour, and after the train left the station, there were no real slow downs except for one brief stop to let some other trains pass.  -And I only caught myself snoring once.  Well, maybe twice.  ::)

And, thankfully, my parents have become familiar enough with Richmond that they were able to get to the train station without getting lost to pick me up.

And it turns out that my brother, Michael, is here too visiting my folks.  And he brought along John Michael, Alyssa and Emily.  :)

-My sister-in-law, Vero, unfortunately, flew to Puerto Rico last Friday for the funeral of her grandmother.

So...

DMV - 15 minutes wait; 5 minutes at the window to get my paperwork processed.

City Hall - No wait at the Personal Property Tax window.

Porter Street (a.k.a. where my car has been parked for the past couple of months) - I spent all but 30 seconds in my car, which was just enough time to move it to the other side of the street so that it would not get towed tomorrow morning due to the street cleaning.

...And with the way my schedule worked out, I'm not missing out on any gigs this week - I'm back in ACL this coming weekend, but I had nothing booked during the week.  And then when Steve tipped me off to the street cleaning, well... Timing is everything.

DR JoseSPiano - In case you didn't get to yesterday's Arts & Leisure section, you may find this article interesting: Steinway's sole double-keyboard piano.

I did indeed see that article - and those pictures.  Now I know what I want for Christmas. :)

From the stage adaptation of Disney's High School Musical, now going up in Philly:

Well... That pic is actually from the Atlanta run of the show.  However, since almost all of that cast is now on the tour, well..  It works. ;)

The reviews are mostly very favorable, except for the NY Times, which is hard to classify.  I loved this production of Gypsy.  I think Brantley secretly did, too.  He said so many nice things about it, and about Patti, within his review.  I suspect he had such high expectations, and there was such good word of mouth from early previews, that it would have been difficult for him to be completely satisfied with it.

But I was.  :)  I'm going back again tomorrow.   ;D

Well.. I saw it twice already.  Last Wednesday - both the matinee and evening shows.  And it looks like I'll be seeing it at least two more times before the run ends.

Atta boy, Luther!!!   ;D

Ah, I believe that shot is from the long-aborning Limelight, (one of) the Charlie Chaplin musical(s) when it was presented up at New York Stage & Film.  I was up there that summer with Dangerous Beauty, and Luther was in the dorm room next to mine.

The trick is to come to Rehoboth Beach instead.  While RB is a gay resort town, it's mixed with the straight elements very well, a kind of co-habitation.  Part of what attracted der Brucer and myself to this town is how it has no gay ghetto, and is very well integrated.  So if you ever get tired of the competition of Poodle Beach (yep, that's what the predominantly gay section of the sand is called), all you have to do is wander a couple hundred yards northwards and mingle with the husbands and wives.

(Wander far enough north, and you find a predominantly lesbian section.  Only I don't think they've named their stretch of sand.  Strange.)

I <heart> Rehoboth Beach... Dewey Beach... The Dunes.  When I was in high school, RB was the cool beach to go to.  And I went to a Catholic High School.  Yes, we knew there would be homosexuals there, but the beauty of RB overrode that "detraction".  ;)

I once began a musical version of Waltz Of The Toreadors.  And The VIPs.  And, of course, I did To Kill A Mockingbird.   I think those were my only adaptations or stabs at adaptations.

DR elmore - I am not a "slut".  I am an "easily accessible Filipino-American".

It's all semantics, dear! In my day, easy meant exactly that!

Seriously, I just posted a sublet notice on MySpace for Cason and BJ Clark for the month of September.  Would all you wonderful Manhattan Hainsie and Kimlets please keep an eye out for a september sublet?

At least half the time when I stand at the end it's because my view is completely blocked.  At 5' 2" (on a tall day) my view is frequently blocked even when the person in front of me is sitting.
I hope I get to New York again and meet you Julie. We can go to the theatre with Ben and Anthony.  I sometimes need to stand to see the curtain calls too!

Melbournian's tend not to give standing ovations unless the show or perfomance is really deserving. (Saturday night audiences are more likely to do so).  I certainly did not stand for a recent production of "Miss Saigon".

I had no problem standing for Barbara Cook's show here.

TOD

(A tale Woody says will warm the cockles of esteemed bk's heart)

While I was living in LA back in the 1970's I had season tickets to the Pantages which were the very front row, the very center seats. They did a run of HELLO DOLLY starring, wait for it....Carol Channing. Now I had seen a earlier run of her show, and knew about her curtain call shtick - after milking it for all she could, she started on a little speech, and then, as if noticing the audience for the first time,  interrupted herself and said, "Oh you poor dears, are you all still standing, please sit down.!"

Well, the show was over, the performance ho-hum, and these butt-cheeks were staying fixed! So with hundreds of devoted fans on their feet aroar, two men were very conspicuously still seated. The darling Ms Channing looked down from the stage and gave a wonderful Alexis Carrington look  - her best performance of the evening!

der Brucer

Poor Carol - not starring, just staring!

PS This was in my pre-Woody days.

My cousin has a friend in Alaska. She took a walk this morning through her neighborhood and this is what she saw...a baby moose, less than 12 hours old.
