Two sci-fi musicals at NYMF - too bad I can't recreate my role in The Last Starfighter, but I suspect they'll find someone better.

Miss Carter is very nice.  In fact she's a wonder.  And a woman.

Did you have your camera with you, Laura? Might not your Nature Photographer persona come in handy?

I suspect camera/binoculars casue the problem - bird watchers and terrorist scouters are nearly indistinguisable.

(And we all know Laura has a record as a trouble-maker!)

DtM-Glad your heart is still beating. :)  May it continue to do so for a many years.

Danise painted her mother’s room & has been, with great difficulty, turning it into a guest room.

Singdaw, I don’t have any news of the sleep study results.

Her news at work continues to be scary, just keep those job vibes coming for her.

Live from Conway Studios - I had a nice chat with owner Buddy Brundo, who was here when we did Nudie!  The session is going very slowly - if this were a Kritzerland session I would already have two more songs than we have in the can.  But, I'm just sitting here like so much fish, enjoying the music and keeping things moving as much as possible.

Who is running the session? How's Vinnie? Say hi for me :)

Bk - You're being too humble about how good you were in the readings last year.

Thanks, all, for the good wishes.

It's only been a couple of hours and already there's so much paperwork to download. :)

Nope, I am now car free.

And for a resident of Manhattan, a very sound economical decision.

Add up the "static" vehicle costs (depreciation, maintenance, insurance, garaging) and local operating costs (gas, oil, parking) over the period of a year and you reach a tidy sum.

For fewer dollars you can use lots of cabs and rent luxury cars for week-end getaways.

der Brucer

Of course, if you have inherited a depression era simplistic cost consciousness, you have a problem. Even after I finally convinced my Father to get rid of the Caddy in the garage (which he rarely used, and behind which wheel he was dangerous) he always felt guilty using cabs to get about town - the two grand he saved a year would but a lot of taxi rides!

No, I did not go to work today.

Perhaps you can find a local showing of 1408!

...anti pasto...

Classic example of the Italian's perverse ability to corrupt language! It should have been "ante (meaning before) pasto", not "anti (meaning against) pasto". Many of us of German heritage would consider the potato an "anti-pasto",

BTW, I am REALLY enjoying Milla's new CD.  Her pleasing mix of head and chest voice is reminiscent of another singer I admire - Barbara Cook.

I got my CD last night!  I'm listening to "Bill Evans Trio with Symphony Orchestra" right now (recommended by BK and I'm really enjoying it!), so I'll listen to Milla's CD right afterwards. :)

I tried lobster bisque for the first time and I'm hooked. I'll be going to Red Lobster tomorrow(Hello, Joe Queenan) and am looking for  a simple recipe. The first one  I saw involved a half  dozen crunchy veggies which wasn't wht I was looking for.

There is no simple path to a good home-made lobster bisque. The cruncy veggies you mention are necessary to make a good stock (they get finely chopped and are often pureed at a later step in the preparation. Then there is the problem with the shells - you can not make great lobster bisque stock without cooking up lobster shells! (Home chefs that serve Lobster entrees often save the shells for later use preparing the stock - which can be frozen for later use.)

You could cheat and buy some Baxter's (imported from Scotland),

This is pretty good stuff - but "cheats" by using shrimp as well as lobster. You can perk-it up by adding some fresh lobster meat and a bit of sherry.

I've never gotten into Buffalo chicken wings.  For the life of me, I can't say why.

Maybe 'cause I'll never order them when we go out to eat :D

The mail was a washout today; no new DVDs, so I'll be content watching Esther Williams for the next day or two.

I did watch NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTER this afternoon. A couple of nice Frank Loesser tunes and a silly, somewhat tedious mistaken identity plot. But Esther was between children at this point and looks about the best she ever looked in the movies. She's very slim.

MGM had not made Ricardo Montalban shave his chest, and we get a couple of generous opportunities to luxuriate in his gorgeous physique in Technicolor.

The transfer is just fine. Esther's close-ups are diffused a bit, but the rest is very sharp and the Technicolor is not overly saturated but made to look more natural. Personally, I'd rather have it a little brighter and richly saturated, but that's just personal preference. The source they used for the transfer was in excellent shape so the DVD is really immaculate.

Next I looked at the Esther Williams PRIVATE SCREENINGS episode which lasts about 45 minutes. She and Robert Osborne are old friends, so they're easy with each other, and it makes for a nice interview.

"Scott Baio is 45 and Single" - Who knew? And why make a TV show covering that fact?  Well, it is VH-1, so... :-\

I won't immediately put in another Williams musical tonight; they're so fluffy that I'm afraid I'll get tired of them if I watch two in one day. Instead, I'll find something else to watch tonight along with a MOONLIGHT episode or two.

TOD:

I really love those Bloomin' Onions you can get at Outback (and other restaurants which call them different things). Also love Li'l Smokies in barbecue sauce.

Hi Cilla. Did you hire anyone today?

As a matter of fact I did!!!  Nadia is my new assistant. She will start on Monday.  I think she will work out great. Her credentials are better than I thought they would be.  I called her reference who was her last job and who gave a glowing report. They also told me they run background checks and she passed with flying colors or they wouldn't have hired her and that they were really sorry to lose her.

She's going to finish college in the evenings while she works for me.   I knew the minute she walked in and sat down that she was perfect. I'm thrilled. She starts on Monday.

Now I want some deviled eggs, not with cayenne pepper.  TCB I would also have been shocked.  I like mine with extra paprika on top.

Spanish or Hungarian Paprika??

Quote
Hungarian paprika is known as stronger and richer than Spanish paprika, which is quite mild, though through controlled breeding they are becoming more alike. To maintain the stronger taste that consumers expect, some spice companies add cayenne to heat up Hungarian paprika.

I did indeed bring Ye Olde Laptop and they do indeed have Ye Olde Wireless, so here I am.  This will be fun - live, on location.  Haven't been to this studio since Nudie Musical - it's quite different.  We're not in the same studio, but right next to it.

BK, did you know that next Tuesday, July 24, is Lynda Carter's birthday?  You could wish her an early birthday and I'm sure she'll be impressed!  And tell her a fan wishes her a Happy Birthday, also! :)

I have to clean the living room as I didn't get to it this morning. Then, I'll get back to some viewing. Still haven't decided which of the Cult Classics movies I'll put in next. Will probably watch a MOONLIGHTING episode first.
