I hope this linxsys connection holds, because even with only two bars of signal it's twice as fast as the AOL dial-up. However, I can't get ON AOL from the linxsys connection - only on to Safari.

It's a rare day indeed when DW Joy allows me to cook for her and, tempting as Joe Allen's sounds, I can't pass that up. These days, we've precious little time alone together. More likely I'll be available after the production meeting on Tuesday. I like to pop by at these things, smile at everybody, awed at the team's vast experience, and leave.

Last night, I went to a Seattle Storm women's basketball game...they won! Afterwards, I went to a record shop (that had more CDs than records) which was very close to the arena and I bought the original cast recording of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on vinyl. The only names in the cast that I recognize are Cathryn Damon (who was in "Soap"), Lorraine Serabian (the "Leader" in Kander and Ebb's Zorba), and Christopher Norris (a woman), who was on the TV show "Trapper John, MD" with Brian (pre-Stokes) Mitchell. It's not sealed, but the vinyl looks real good.

After that, I headed south to the Borders in Tacoma and got "Cole Porter: Centennial Gala Concert."

When I got home, a CD that I had ordered arrived! The world premiere recording of Sadie Thompson (by "Vemon" Duke and Howard Dietz, according to the CD cover!

) with Melissa Errico, Davis Gaines and Elmore's close and personal friend, Ron Raines!

I've done three shows with Lorraine Serabian. she's a hoot, and I love her!

I just saw the most nauseating thing on TV - a small choir and soloist singing some dreadful thing or other - all singers had head mics (the kind near the mouth) AND those stupid earpieces that are now all the rage. I mean, is that what we've come to. No one can project, it's all artificial, singers now have to wear earpieces to hear themselves. How did singers and Broadway ever make do in the old days? Well, they made do and you know what, it was fine. I had the sound designer of the current A Chorus Line tell me that if they miked the show the way they did originally it would be terrible. Only you know what - I loved the sound on the original and couldn't stand it on the revival. Technology isn't always necessary.

I also blame the theatergoers, whose ability to listen isn't snuff compared to how people listened before all this miking became de regeur.

Maybe we just need to hand out listening devices to the audience members as they enter the theaters... oh, wait, then they couldn't be wearing their bluetooths while watching the show.
