The sextile opportunity aspect gives everybody a chance to deepen their understanding.

Speaking of Jessica's Biscuit, I spent much of yesterday compiling a spreadsheet wishlist.  So far, the wishlist runs to seventy-five items, at nearly $850!

Fortunately for der Brucer, I'm not greedy, I can accept my wishes being fulfilled in fifty dollar installments.  That's what the first installment ran, and I've already decided which books I want in the second installment.

 ::)

Der B -  :-*

(One of the books in the second installment is called Food, and was written by Ogden Nash.  I'd like to see if this would be a good book for the younger grandlad, who is having trouble learning how to read but loves wordplay.  Nash should be perfect for him.)

It has something to do with a linkage engine, or something.  These people sign up for a different group, and end up being included on our membership list.

Either that, or we're being infiltrated by some terrorist group.  Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hello all.   I had a really bad night with my cold and woke up feeling worse than I did yesterday. So I went to work, returned my messages, packed up a briefcase full of stuff and came home.  I have a big pot of chicken vegetable noodle soup on the stove.

Boo doesn't get why Callie isn't here and seems to be upset, so I'm glad I'm here with her

Arnold asked this question:

Will somebody please explain-maybe BK can-that we show all these new members signing up but they never post. Strange!

And Woody responded:

Actually, that's not quite the explanation. It has to do with something called "pinging" which I won't try to define. When Bruce posts the daily notes, this Web site "pings" around the world and many different Web sites and mail services are notified that a new posting has occured. This causes "bots" to come to the sight. Bots are (obviously) not human posters. They are computer operated and they are able to "sign up" as a member of the site. They do this because the software is old (in technology terms) and the sight doesn't use any kind of verification to prevent random sign-ups. You (the royal you) may have been to other sights which require registration and you may have had to type in a random series of letters or numbers into a box as a way to prove you are human. The bots can't do that and so fail to register. We don't have that kind of verification here.

If you look at many of the "user names" and their e-mail addresses you will see that the majority of them come from .ru which is Russia or other Eastern European countries. You can also tell when a "member name" is something like greatsex dot com or something equally unbelievable.

Bruce has no real Web master for the site (Mark Bakalor who helped him get this version of the site up and running helps him out on occasion when the photo uploader needs to be emptied) so the new "members" register and stay in the list even though they are not real. There are ways to purge the membership list to get rid of these bots but that takes time and someone who knows the software.

BTW (by the way in Internet lingo) I'm not saying that all new members who register but don't post are "bot" registrations but a large majority of them are of that type. I think many people think you have to register to read the notes but you don't. You can lurk and read the posts, you just don't see the pictures of our loverly faces and you can't post.

Anyway, that's a LONG answer to your question Arnold. I hope it made sense.

And now back to Foundation Land (Larry goes to Toyland, I go to Foundation Land).

I noticed that the film CRUISING is being released next week in a new special edition that adds a bunch of deleted scenes back into the movie. I wonder if that will make it any more coherent?

In the theatrical version which I saw, the murder mystery element was a complete and total mess, and the real killer was never really found. Plus the intimation was that Al Pacino had turned into a psychotic killer himself. As I said, a total mess.

I'll be looking forward to reading reviews of this one.

A friend of mine from the NYC Gay Men's Chorus was one of the extras in the CRUISING bar scenes.  He claimed, around 1982, that the director, who may not be as straight as his IMDB credits would imply, must have a great gay porn flic assembled from all the cut footage of the activities the cast was encouraged with drugs to perform.

The vet called this morning to tell me that Callie passed about 1/3 of what she needs to pass before she can come home.  They have x-rayed and it's all in the lower colon which is where it needs to be right now. So, the poor girl got another enema.  I'll go visit her later this afternoon, but I don't think she'll be home until tomorrow or Saturday at the earliest.   The good news is if she can do this naturally, she won't need surgery. The other good news is that she was very healthy going into this,   so far so good....

I've had a busy morning: first a trek to Toyland, where I discovered after walking around my office for about an hour that my new bookcase had arrived and been set up. Color me clueless.

So, I met some of my 10th floor neighbors in my inquiries into internet service: all have Verizon, which told us they had no more open lines in the building.  We're checking on this now.  So, I called to report my findings to Matthew, our office manager, and he asked me if I was happy that we now had a refrigerator.  I missed that, too!  Oy.

That reminds me: Henry Willson's client was named Rush Hishonor, IIRC.

Then, I went to rehearsal and caught the second half of Act One of "The Brain."  It's funny.  During break, I answered questions about the synth patches for the MD, hugged Alet, gave DR Cason a hard time and left.

Then I treked over to the Equity Building to pick up  more "Brain" postcards, caught the subway home, had some lunch, and now I will tackle more "Brain" parts.

I also bought tickets today for the NYMF show, "The Piper," with my friends Christianne Noll and Catherine LaValle and choreography by my dear friend Janet Watson, wife of FANTASTICKS author Tom Jones.  One thing in their publicity bothers me: someone doesn't know the difference between "border" and "boarder."  Is it one of our posters, I wonder?

So, I will be seeing five shows:
The Brain from Planet X
The Last Starfighter
Such Good Friends
The Piper
Sherlock Holmes (The Early Years)

I don't think I'll be seeing ROLLER DERBY with such a full dance card.
Quelle fromage!
