Well, I took Callie to the new vet today. The "senior" vet in the office was out so I went to a young woman who seemed to be right out of school. I gave her the xrays and the notes from the other vet and she seemed a bit overwhelmed by it, but went in the back for awhile and came back with some really practical solutions.
She also noticed that Callie had a temp and thinks she has an infection of some sort right now, so we're treating her with antibiotics. She gave her some fluids, told me she would show me how to do it and could give me a set up for them so I could give them to her if there was an emergency. She told me about 2 prescription foods that are low residue and gave me samples of both to try. She did an exam and Callie isn't going because she isn't eating...no problem there.
So, I'm not sure exactly what's wrong right now, but I gave her the antibiotic tonight and we'll see how it goes. She isn't well, but....
The young vet is going to consult with the other vet tomorrow and will get back to me. It's like going from the high tech modern vet hospital to the mom and pop vet clinic. So far I like it. Much more teaching me how to manage the situation .
The most telling thing was Callie purred the entire time we were there.
