Mr. Whipple' TV Actor Dick Wilson Dies
By JEFF WILSON,AP
Posted: 2007-11-19 13:32:55
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Dick Wilson, the character actor and pitchman who for 21 years played an uptight grocer begging customers "Please, don't squeeze the Charmin," died Monday. He was 91.

The man famous as TV's "Mr. Whipple" died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, said his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom "Perfect Strangers."

Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple, a man consumed with keeping bubbly housewives from fondling toilet paper. The punch line of most spots was that Whipple himself was a closeted Charmin-squeezer.

The first commercial aired in 1964 and by the time the campaign ended in 1985 the tag line and Wilson, a former Canadian airman and vaudeville veteran, were pop culture touchstones.

He also played a drunk on several episodes of "Bewitched," as appeared as various characters on "Hogan's Heroes," "The Bob Newhart Show," and Walt Disney productions.

Time to stop lurking and go to rehearsal.  Until later!

Thanks!   ;D

I was watching some TIME TUNNEL episodes...interesting home movies on the disk....did EVERYONE on the set smoke?  It is funny to see Lee Meriwether sitting at the console in her white medical smock calmly smoking a ciggie and waiting for the next shot.

I have to work tomorrow.  Maybe I should have watched that movie more closely and found out exactly How to Marry a Millionaire.

DRJOSE such lovely photos!!!  And to think, it all started with a mouse....any pictures of Annette or tributes to her in any of the shows?

Callie Sue has been playing and jumping with her favorite toy.  She's a little out of practice so she's sort of uncoordinated. It's pretty funny, but I'm so glad to see her jump and play

Cute Callie. :)

Today at the end of dog training we spent some time teaching the dogs a couple of tricks.  One dog was learning how to bow.  Sherlock did that as a puppy but once he began limping we stopped & I haven’t done it since.  Watching the other dog I wondered, said “Sherlock take a bow” and to my amazement, he did.  :o :D

I love Copy/Paste. I just put both of your postings into my Cook'n Software cookbook, DR Jose!

And I put the posting about blood, placental material and butt worms in mine!

 ;D

Glad to have the details from Ron on DREAMCATCHER---I didn't understand it either, Danise! It sounds much more interesting than the film I remembered...

DR edisaurus - Thanks for the book "recommendation"!  I believe I may pick up a copy of your friend's book for my nephew.

This one of Danny's is a favorite of mine:

I think it was the HHW vibes that got me back to LaGuardia almost on time.  When I got to the airport in Dayton, it was around 3:30 and the flight was scheduled at 5:08. When I checked my bag, I waqs told that due to high winds in Manhattan, the flight would be two hours late.  We boarded at 4:45 and landed at 6:45. So much for a 2-hour delay!

Randy called me to say goodbye and told me that Macbeth sent his wishes for a safe flight. I believe he was too afraid of the wrath of Lady M to call me himself.

And now to watch THE CLOSER.

I'm so-so.

I hope you're right about him changing the train of thought.  It sure looks like he was responding directly to Jose's question, though.

:)

That's what I though and I was amazed that there would be so many all in one place, without being a berevement site!
