Patty Duke in Gypsy, you say?

Here's June who has been most everywhere
From Broadway stage
To Tulsa's hair

But Gypsy's been a Minsky star
A chauffeur drives her in a car
What a crazy pair

But they're sisters
They've had their life story scored by Styne
One pair of matching bookings
Different as gin and wine

Where Gypsy enjoys a rack of lamb
An eggroll with
A side of jam

Our June wreaks havoc with a cow
Her dancing makes 'em all say wow
Even Uncle Sam

But they're sisters

In the Julie Taymor version, all the actors are played by puppets.
The Muppets could provide interesting casting choices.

15 pounds!! Oh, dear! My father used to put away his share of See's, but ...well, she's entertaining, right?

LOL-I didn't think anything unusual about that.  My father ate a lot of it as well,  He received so much as gifts he rarely had to purchase it himself.

DR RLP, I don't believe that I said anything at all about anyone's right to free speech, nor would I ever. But with that right is also a responsibility, and to me I felt the photos were insensitive and made it look like all Muslms were whack jobs, which seems to be what far to many people believe. I commented on it, which is also a part of free speech, if I recall.

I may have mentioned this after I saw it at the festival about this time last year. I will be happy to loan you mine after I receive it if you send me your snail mail address.

The filmmaker hasn't put it on NetFlix because he will make more money selling it and a lot of people have bought it after screenings.

That is a very good reason not to put it on NetFlix.

Thank you, I'll send you my address.

Hi folks,

Without going into to much drama, I just want to let you know that I have had a small set back.  Per my doctors orders, I can not be on the computer for any length of time for the next week.  No typing.

Don’t worry about me, I’m honestly fine.  I just tore myself and have to sit quiet for awhile.  I guess I will be watching a lot lot DVD's in the next week. :D

Hugs, vibes and love to all.

I’ll talk with you next week unless it's on the phone.

DR RLP, I don't believe that I said anything at all about anyone's right to free speech, nor would I ever.

I never said you did.  That was one of MY points regarding der Brucer and the cartoons he posted.

It's exactly a part of free speech.  No one, including MYSELF, suggested otherwise.

I did not in any way suggest you should repress any of your thoughts, your opinions or suggest you should not be free to speak your mind. That interpretation on your behalf is the absolute ANTITHESIS of what I said.

"Responsibility" in the exercise of freedom of speech/freedom of the press is that one not libel or slander someone.

To suggest that those cartoons should somehow be censored, IN MY OPINION, is exactly what the whack jobs want to happen in this country.

We did some walking at lunch which helped walk off the enormous lunch I ate. It's a glorious day, but the wind was picking up steadily during the afternoon, and I was glad I wore a heavy sweater today.

Well, I pulled another dumbass move! I unintentionally ordered from Amazon.co.uk two - count 'em, Two! - Region 2 DVDs of the Royal Ballet performing Frederick Ashton's production of Leo Delibes' ballet SYLVIA. My first copy arrived last week and I watched it Saturday night and today another showed up.

It's a beautiful piece, with glorious music, and this videotaping was from its first revival in 53 years.  So, to get to the nitty-gritty: woud any non-regional DVD owner like a copy of the Royal Ballet's SYLVIA?

I decided when I got back that I would clear off one of those films that's been on my DVR for months, so I watched RUNNING WITH SCISSORS. A very sad story of a teen abandaoned by his psychotic mother into a family full of semi-psychotics. It's meant to be seriocomic, but I couldn't laugh at all because the people were so sad and desperate in their mental illnesses, based on the memoirs of Augusten Burroughs.

What an astounding cast: Annette Bening (in a role that should have earned her an Oscar nomination; she might have gotten one if the film hadn't tanked), Alec Baldwin, Brian Cox, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachel Evan Ward, Joseph Fiennes, Patrick Wilson, Jill Clayburgh, and Joseph Cross as the main character - all superb performances.

But I finished the film not feeling relief for the kid but so terribly unhappy over these unhappy, miserable people. Nice little coda on the film to let you know how these characters turned out, in many cases much more hopefully than one might have thought.

Hmmm...if she directed Avenue Q would all the puppets be played by people?

Ron, I was also a bit confused you related my comments to free speech.  I had a chuckle over it though.

I do fee the pig cartoon is insensitive & am concerned it could adds fuel to the fire of anti-Muslims.  Yet I sort of laughed at the other one.:o

I don't believe I'm familiar with Sylvia.  I wonder if I saw it when I was young, my father often took me to the ballet.

DR elmore, I'll take you up on your sweet offer.

There is a strong wind blowing here.  Half way through our hike it began to rain, at least the wind waited until we were driving home to pick up.  I had better get things done around here before we loose power again.  I've also got more errands to run this afternoon.
