The evening game plan:

8-10 Tape HD broadcasts of Chuck - Heroes

8-10 Watch HD broadcast of The Closer (so I can irritate everybody with spoliers!!!)

10-11 - Watch HD broadcast of Life

11-1 - Watch Tin Man Part II

Dinner tonight:

Pork Ribs slow-braised in tomato sauce
Grits (which I will load with butter a lots of fresh cracked pepper)
Martinelli's Sparkling Apple-Cranberry Cider
And a dish of Edys' Swiss Orange Sherbert

Good Evening!

I'm back from running my errands, and am now back in my warm - and non-windy(!) - apartment.  I just made and consumed an espresso, and have caught up on today's posts.

-And, now I'm more or less caught up.  ;)

DR Ron Pulliam - As for your See's candy order... Couldn't you just go right to a See's Candy Counter store in your neighborhood and buy the candy there?  Or do you order custom assortments?

Holy moley on rye.  As you know, I've been playing on the ABE (the bookseller site), looking up things in what's left of my collection - still have some nice and valuable titles.  So, for fun, I looked up Raymond Benson's novelization of Tomorrow Never Dies, which I guess was his first, back in 1997.  I have no memory of where or when I got the book, but I know I didn't pay over fifty bucks for it.  Well, to my astonishment, the cheapest unsigned copy (as mine is) in like condition is $2600 and the only other unsigned copy on the ABE is 4500!  And the two signed copies available are going for 7500 and 9000ish.  Say WHAT?  If Mr. Benson ever comes to the States to do a signing, I shall get this thing signed.  Whether they sell for that much or not is anyone's guess, but those are the listed copies, which means I could go to a dealer and IF they wanted it, I could certainly get half of that lowest price.  The other Benson I have is The World Is Not Enough, and even that's going for 300 bucks.

That is amazing!

6.16 am and I awake to find that Patti and Gypsy are Broadway bound in the New Year. I know some DRs really enjoyed the performance but the "recorded" performance of the show is the WORST I've heard since Bernadette's "Song & Dance".   Yes even worse than Patti's NY recording of "Sweeney" years ago.  EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

Well, I'm thankful that the show is transferring.  I just got booked to play the next set of required auditions, so... $Ka-Ching$

Ron, I was also a bit confused you related my comments to free speech.  I had a chuckle over it though.

I do fee the pig cartoon is insensitive & am concerned it could adds fuel to the fire of anti-Muslims.  Yet I sort of laughed at the other one.:o

Not to mention the way it may upset the pigs,....

Ok, I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist adding that...it's a joke    ;D

"On the Right Track," my favorite song from PIPPIN and maybe my favorite Schwartz song where he wrote both music and lyrics.

And it has one of the dance breaks I never tire of - nor mind - playing.  :)

Time for me to go home. Didn't get as much done as I wanted to. Many many distractions today.

The garage door won't be here for 3 weeks!!!  I told them it was killing my back to open this heavy one by hand over and over....so they are going to bring the new opener and try to adjust the springs, or maybe replace them..not sure. So the old door will work until the new one comes in.

Ok, my back doesn't hurt, but that sucka is really heavy...

Something astounding happened today.  I went to Borders with a 40%-OFF-ANY-DVD-BOX-SET-IN-STOCK coupon, and returned to work having purchased nothing.  Nothing appealed!

Well, the coupon is good today and tomorrow, so...  Since there are a few things that are being released tomorrow...  Starting with the second season of "SNL".

In other news...

I had a wonderful morning playing auditions for this new piece that will actually be presented at the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel early in 2008.  The casting director brought in some great people, and the people "behind the table" were also lots of fun.

The second young woman to come in today was someone I worked with up at Williamstown two years ago.  She came in the room, started chit-chatting with the casting director and the director.  Then when she finally turned to the piano and saw me, she let out a big scream, "OOOHHHH!!!  I didn't realize you would be here.  Now I'm really nervous."  -And it really did look like my presence in the room had sort of thrown her.  -We had a wonderful time up in Williamstown, and since she was the lead actress in the piece, we had a lot of one-on-one time together.  So, after she took a few deep breaths to calm herself, she sang her song.  And then after a few more deep breaths, she did her reading.  And I'm happy to report that she gave a truly killer audition.  She impressed everyone.  :)

Whew! - When she started her reading, I almost asked her if it would "help" her if I left the room.  But she did fine.  In any case, I was very flattered that I was someone who would make her nervous.  ;)

After my auditions were done, I walked around midtown for a bit taking care of some errands... And making sure I wasn't carried away by the strong gusts of winds that had started up!  I even saw a newspaper stand get blown over... And then all those newspapers just started blowing up and down 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue.  WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

TOD:  I have a lot of people to buy for, and multiple gifts.  So I basically never stop shopping year round.  I'm always on the lookout for the perfect fit of gift to person, and as I buy things throughout the year, I  throw it all into a closet.  Then, along about now, I drag the whole lot out to see what I've got, and if I need to get anything else.  It's kind of a haphazard system, but it works for me.

That's what I do as well... where I fall down is on the delivery part...I am afraidd that several dear Hainies and Kimlets were suppoed to get lovely 2007 calenders which are still in my closet..... I guess I'll  have to wait seven years for the days and dates to line up right and try again......

I'm not much for feeling holiday spirit... when I see some holiday spirit lying around, I'm much more likely to drink it than feel it...  ;D

As for gifts, well, ours came a bit early this year (or late, depending on how you look at it, I guess):

Baby boy came into the world by c-section Saturday morning at 0027 hours, weighing in at 7lbs. 6oz. and 19.5". General consensus (with several significant judgements still left to be made) is that baby looks very much like his older brother, but has a little bit more of his father's features.

Mother and baby are doing well, and expect to be home before the end of the week. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to try and build up a sleep surplus while I still can...

Congratulations!!!!

Oh, did I forget to tell you that I order from the same person every year?  And that my order is tax-free?
