I saw The Omega Man when I was a kid at a little theater on a military base in Heilbronn, Germany where my sister managed the Service Club (make of that what you will, TCB).

We caught up with the movie "The Illusionist" last night.

As with "Notes on a Scandal" - movie is lessened by the way too instrusive "music?" of Philip Glass.

The Brain From Planet X (world premiere cast recording...and previously mentioned)
Une Chambre en Ville (original soundtrack)
Company (NBC)
Curtains (OBC)
"Obligatory Villagers" by Nellie McKay
Wicked (German cast recording)

The rest of my new CDs are at work, but I need to stop there before I head over to my sister's house, so I'll be able to see what I have that's new.  After going to my sister's house, I'm working concessions tonight for David Lanz with Tingstad & Rumbel: Home for the Holidays.  It'll be an evening of music that's new to me.  I've heard of them, but I've never actually heard any of their music.

Heard on Edisaurus' doorstep:

Quote
'Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight)'--The Ramones (1989)
When Joey Ramone sees trees of green -- red roses, too -- it truly does sound like a wonderful world. But when he calls out to the stray flying mammals on his tenement rooftop -- where is Rudolph? Where is Blitzen? -- to help save him from another bickering Christmas, it's just too absurd.

It has stayed mostly overcast all day long. There has been more breeze than I like which makes it feel colder when you go outside to get the newspaper, the mail, take garbage to the can, etc.

I began my afternoon viewing by finishing HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. I still find the ending recitation in Dumbledore's office of what happened in the pit to be the least satisfying of all the POTTER films. Love the final point count in the Great Hall and the goodbyes with Hagrid at the station, but that explanation section is just not especially well directed, I don't think.

And the kids have certainly improved their acting ability considerably since this first effort.

Then, I began with the DVD edition of THE TUDORS. Sad to say, these are not great transfers. They're kind of soft with lackluster color and contrast that keeps things just the tiniest bit "foggy." On Showtime-HD, the show was sumptuous, but these first three episodes certainly weren't that at all (though the second and third looked a bit better than the first.)

And I was just as sad to see Steven Waddington leave the series here as I was when I first watched it.

And think - they could have grown up to look like the Osbourne kids - I think J. K. must have cast a spell....

It's been raining HEAVILY in the Eastern States for the last few days. Not quite Ark building time but my neighbours would have been better in one.

We of course would prefer the rain to fall in the catchment areas of the country!

My sister is at present looking after her daughter's (and "son-in-law's") home which is on a vinyard in the Yarra Valley. My niece's partner "runs" the vinyard on the Nellie Melba estate.  I think the rain would be very welcome indeed. At least it will fill the dams used for watering the vines in January and February.  The Yarra River will certainly benefit from the run off from all the rain - it has been running low for so long.

Well, I guess I need to head downstairs and decide on my "outfit" for the evening. Since DR der Brucer has vetoed the Speedos, I must choose something else. Hmmmm....

Then, I need to shower and shave for the evening.

DR FJL re: your problem.

I think some people probably don't know what to give others, so they go the donation route.

And maybe some others can't be bothered to think out what to get.

I also think that some people think that people would be pleased to have money donated on their behalf.

I think it was Barbara Walters on the VIEW last week who also mentioned that SHE HATES IT when people donate on her behalf.

I'm not really sure how to handle it. I mean if your friend is a close one then maybe have a discussion. Although it might cause hurt feelings.
